Gordon’s had a great impact up there.

I didn’t say he hasn’t, what I said was the media scrutiny was very intense. Gordon no doubt had experienced that  at Everton so was somewhat prepared for it. Adam hasn’t experienced intense scrutiny From the wider media thus far. He’s flown under the radar in the wider football world of casual and lad bible readers, and I think the move to CP allows him to continue to do so.

  2. Not looked into what Flecks injuries are but I’m going to guess muscular, which could be a sign the intensity of the Prem is too much.

All conjecture on my part, not knowing his injury history but if they’re muscular you’d hope he’s signed being currently fit to play and that the less intense pace (in comparison) of the championship might help him.

who knows, if he stays fit I think he’s a good addition.

  3. The more I think about it the more I think CP is a very shrewd move for Adam. They’ve got a brilliant recent record of trusting young players in the X1 and giving them a platform to be expressive. The move also attracts much less scrutiny and pressure than say moving to a Newcastle, admittedly different fees but Gordon had a torrid time in the media following his move. Adam won’t suffer that I don’t expect, he can go about his business and continue to develop while testing himself in one of the toughest/best leagues in the world.

I think the fee is maybe 5ml short of what I’d hoped/expected (25ml +) but then we’ve obviously found ourselves in a position where we’re begging from Peter to pay Paul

  4. I’m well chuffed with Fleck, the midfield has been crying out for more experience and protection. He brings both in spades and a bit of much needed bite to boot.

I’m interested to see how the shape looks over the next few games. 4-2-3-1 seems the most obvious with Fleck and Tronstad as the 2. Although I wonder if he seems Garret sitting with Tronstad and Fleck as the 3 giving extra protection in the advanced 3.

With Dolan and Sam returning there is a lot of competition for forward places now, given that Sammie is a guaranteed starter. When Hedges comes back it could be really tight. Shame Leonard didn’t get a loan as I can now see him spending a lot of time in the 23’s or getting 5 mins at the end of a game which won’t aid his development

Venkys' legacy. A young local lad who supports the club views bloody Crystal Palace as a big club and an honour to play for.

He’s hardly going to open up with “they’re a rank average 12-15th in the table every year but give me an opportunity to play games and make a big step up” is he

A loyalty bonus wouldn't put on hold any move. If the move is wanted by both clubs then it can just be given in instalments over X amount of years or another way rather than in one lump sum.

Sounds like the Wharton deal has been agreed and ready to be signed off. Probably just waiting for our lot to sort it's mess out before officially confirming.

yep, it would be highly unlikely and totally out of step with how transfers are structured for the one thing that gets paid upfront is the loyalty bonus of the person agreeing to leave......... (again no blame toward Adam but he is signing a contract to leave)

What I've learned in the past 12 hours is that everyone is full of anger on here (understandably so) and that we all have no real clue what's going on and more importantly nor do most of the ITKs. There were so many rumours flying around and everything just gets regurgitated in a hope that someone is more right than the other ITK.

It seems like the reality was that the Wharton deal didn't go through last night as expected and this caused knock on issues for other deals for Rovers and other clubs that. This is normal part of football and I imagine will happen a lot today.

I'm gutted to see Wharton leave but it was inevitable and is the model the club has been upfront about. Gregg & co. know the pressure is on them big time to deliver. Not just from the fans but JDT too. I'm feeling confident that we'll get some deals done today now that Wharton deal looks to be finalised shortly. Whether they're the right deals, I guess we'll ignore the ITKs and wait and see who signs the contracts (correctly).

whoa whoa whoa, don't go throwing around a reasonable explanation, we want wild speculation and hystrionics!

C'mon, that's being selective just to suit your narrative, I'm sorry. Hyam was POTY last season, & this season was solid before injury (though I accept has struggled since coming back, probably still not 100% fit).

Tronstad has been a standout performer this season, deffo in top 3.

Nailed on Tronstad wins players player this year. He’s a pro’s dream teammate.

  9. If Adam is unhappy enough about leaving then he doesn’t sign a contract with CP.

Nobody has a gun to his head, let’s not get into hysterionics and paint a picture of the lad being frog marched at gunpoint into the PL and 50k a week.

I’m sure he would like to stay until the end of the season but liking in an ideal world and reality of the football industry are 2 very different things

  10. Not the move we all thought he'd get first off but then I can see the attraction, at CP he plays every week rather than being loaned out or back playing U23 football. We know how good he is but I just don't see him playing at Brighton, Newcastle, etc at this stage, not down to ability but down to the competition and conservative nature of PL clubs.

We've dodged a bullet there, I've mentioned before that I follow Celtic (family) so watch most the games. Phillip's has been a disaster for Celtic, up there with the debacle that was Shane Duffy. His final game against Killie was as bad as I've seen and he had a proper stinker against Hibees.

Wasn't the reason for the Raya deal being done this way all down to helping Brentford with FFP ?

Think it was the other way around, to help Arsenal with FFP. They can put the Raya purchase into next cycles figures, I remember them talking about it on the Athletic Tactics Podcast recently.

We have a group of lightweight pretty footballers so are they really going to win their battles against seasoned pros who aren’t worried about getting kicked.

The Irish Foden, that has to be a joke lol, is not going to go flying into a 50/50 with an experienced championship midfielder.

Adam Wharton will be an outstanding football but we can’t keep ignoring the defensive side of his game which isn’t just lacking, it’s non existent.

We are very luck to have a bit of a buffer. We’d be screwed otherwise.

I think this is a really good and often ignored point re Adam.

He’s wonderful with the ball however the gaps he leaves in midfield are criminal. Given the risky nature of the way he plays, he needs to develop his awareness of the impact of losing possession/not covering certain areas.

For someone who sees a pass so well going forward he’s not great (or not bothered) at reading the game defensively.

  14. As I’ve said many times, I thoroughly enjoy JDT’s style of play and his philosophy but have become dismayed with his lack of flexibility, plan B or ability to recognise when things need to change.

For the first time however last night I thought you arrogant/smug prick after watching his interview with Andy Bayes. On the one hand he’s inviting media and  fans to blame him yet when questioned about the impact of being on the touchline or sat down he states that the most important thing is winning personal duels. I accept that all footballers are arrogant and that singleminded ness is needed however last night it was arrogance bordering on delusion and a total inability to accept his role in our current failures.

I’ve seen all the stuff on Instagram about the dressing room having gone, no idea whether I believe that or not however I can’t imagine the players being too happy with him throwing them under the bus when he sat and washed his hands of them second half.
