STILL need a LB and talk of yet another keeper is insanity for me. You have to laugh at this forum at times, a couple of weeks ago everyone decided the Greek lad was the next coming of Gordon Banks and a massive feather in the cap of the European scouting network.

Now we've probably discovered he's crap and going to be 3rd choice!

Don't understand why we'd be in for a CM either, If we had room for cover I'd much rather we brought in a half decent striker in case of an injury to Armstrong.

Potentially disconcerting end to what previously had looked a promising window. We seem to be reverting back to signing anyone for the sake of it because we've missed out on our targets rather than bringing in players in the positions we actually need.

Talk about bringing someone in so we can leave our best player so far this season, Dolan, out is equally crackers.

Let's see what transpires but I'm actually getting more concerned than I was a day or too ago rather than the other way round.

Except we are signing a left back. Midfielder has been on the cards since trav got injured. Keeper no ones saying the keeper is rubbish pure speculation.

It was said that “people would hate it in action here”. To which you agreed.

If it was a one off, I agree there would be complaints, however, I think fans would give the owners and scouts the benefit of the doubt in this scenario considering they’ve been here many times before and have improved on their league position / maintained top half finishes throughout:

In forwards alone before the £50m for Watkins and Benrahma...
    Andre Gray £12m 15/16
    Scott Hogan £10m 16/17
    Neal Maupay £20m 19/20

Its fantastic and the model has really worked for them but i still want my club to keep its best players.

Also if the model goes  slightly wrong which at somepoint you would imagine it will have a wobble it could go badly for a while.

bit ff topic but rhian brewster has gone to sheff utd for 23 million quid, is it either sheff utd being naive in paying a ridicoulous  fee for a what appears to a journeyman footballer in waiting,(he certainly does`nt warrant that fee from what iv`e seen of him), or an indication that there is simply to much money flying around the premier league

I think Brewster will be well worth the money they are paying.

  5. Not even sure why we are still arguing about Raya hes brentford's player now. Not really fussed we sold him decent keeper really good shot stopper but has a lot of costly mistakes in him and at 25 he still seems to make them for all he had a good season last season his errors ultimately cost them first automatic promotion and then the play off final its self.

In regards to Kaminski's situation, presumably enough gathered info was necessary to evaluate a purchase.

No no Mercer has told us this agent rocked up with kamanski in his boot and told us he had a cracking deal on a keeper to which we blindly said yes too and got lucky that he was actually a keeper and not just a random guy.

So what have they achieved in 12 months?

IMO, in terms of scores on the doors, virtually nothing as I am pretty certain Kaminski was not their baby but rather a result of a club / player bust up.

There you go again you can't just on a whim decide I'm not giving credit for that too them. Also did Holtby not train with us earlier in the pre season before we signed him someone set that up.

    What gets measured gets done.

Bottom line, IMO, is we have very little, if anything, to show for this operation.

Holtby last season was 'a known' player - you didn't need a scouting set-up for that one as his agent should have done the graft in alerting clubs to his availability.  As some poster pointed out yesterday (may even have been yourself), Gent would have circulated Kaminski's availability following the alleged club / player bust up and I do not think we would have been scouting Kaminski (undisputed first choice goalie with a Belgian 1st Division club competing in Europe) pre the alleged bust up.

    'Near misses' don't count!!!

IMO, we haven't found a single European unpolished diamond within our transfer / wages' budget (which will be very competitive relative to most of Europe) and that is the acid test or bottom line.

Well if you can just discount the players signed from abroad to suit your argument then the scouting network has been a bust

We cant rely on kids behind Williams and Ayala. We know that over the course of a season, as much as he has played well in these last 2 games, Williams wont be a first choice CB for a top 6 team over the course of a season, whereas we win far more points with Lenihan playing than without. Keep the 3 and then we have some scope to cover for an injury, Carter and Magloire for example arent ready to continue at the level we need at this stage.

Also, regarding sell ons, I still think that people are being optimistic thinking that the money will be added onto the budget at any point. It will surely just go to help cover running costs.

Another thing, I heard Watford linked to Ryan Manning on the second tier podcast. Not one that is relevant to us with our budget but worth mentioning.

Watford's can't need anymore players last I heard they were picking from a squad of around 50 players I'm not sure how that's even workable

Celtic did it with Tugay when we played them years ago. Whenever we had the ball they had Chris Sutton man marking him and they played us out of the game.

Not sure many teams will have the target man who can for one be disciplined enough to stick with Holtby  when out of possession but then suddenly get himself up top to win the flick ons this mythical target man sounds a good player

How is that relevant to the discussion? Unless he'd played in the Prem and done well and I'd missed it? Makes you wonder why they sold him - maybe because he flopped at Bolton and Barnsley on loan in the Championship and had only ever done well at Cov in L1? Now look at him. Good job we didn't write him off because he's only done well in L1.

There is a massive difference in someone 18-19 on loan in league 1 playing and scoring regularly than someone 23 and has never played at a higher level no?

Mani said we shouldn't sign him because the gap is too big. Dack proves that's bollocks. As does AA and every other player that's ever played in L1 and has gone on to do well in the Championship. .

    Nobody mentioned money.

Bell proves it to be correct there are of course players who can make the jump but if they are wanting 2m then it's not a risk worth taking

No, he said it in a post that was subsequently removed. If he's honest he'll admit it. He used the jump in quality from L1 to Champ as a reason for not signing Whiteman.

It's a fair enough reason tbf the lad might be good but at the price and with the fact we have better cms than him on the books makes him a wasted source of funds if we bought him.

Yep, you did. You said the gap in quality is too big between L1 and Championship and that's why we shouldn't sign Whiteman. Fact. Hence the Dack reference.

I thought he had said while Whiteman looks good in league 1 the championship is a huge jump and he was not convinced that whiteman was any better than trav Buckley etc therefore at his price would not want him to be bought

In fact not just not any better but actually not as good. Tend to agree tbf if there was a player like trav in league one atm he would have been bought long ago no messing

Looking at the clubs who have loaned him I tend to agree. It's also quite telling that Everton fans used to call him Luke Garbage.

On the subject of Everton though, with their excellent recruitment over the summer there look to be some proper players suddenly out of the first team picture. Probably out of our range but Tom Davies and Mason Holgate (if he's still there) spring to mind. Plus the left back Martina (having checked it looks like they have released him and he's a RB anyway!!) - he's a player.

Holgate plays quite a bit they have a good young cb called branthwaite but he appeared to get hurt the other night and a winger called Tony Gordon but the way he played the other night might be a struggle to sign him on loan
