Imagine if Brereton turned into a wonderkid!

That would leave a few on here with a sour taste as much as people say they want him to do well there a lot who have gone way over the top in their criticism of a 19-20 year old player.

What would be an acceptable goal return for him this season in peoples view?

    Do u watch him regularly?

No the only time I saw him before the u21s myself was in highlights when he was part of the Sunderland team that went Down but that's a bit unfair as the only time he was on them apart from the countless goals they were conceding was his 2 reds in 8 starts and 3 sub apperences

Yes, but I suppose it's all about your expectations.   I think with the money that was available over the last couple of seasons that we would be pushing top 6, we need better than Hart for that.  He may do well in league 2 or 1 on a good day, but we need better and if the coin hadn't been squandered on Brereton and Gallagher we could have had a quality LB and CH .

And then we would woefully short up top. DG is not getting younger nuttall and Samuel are for me the same as your Hart analysis and Armstrong will never be an option as a lone striker.

We have enough square pegs to play CB, not one of ours is a real CB, they are all converted.

we need someone to Marshall the back line, control the other defenders and organise our defence. None of the present crop can do this and it shows. Mulgrew etc are not going to listen to a kiddo.

    Why even bother then?

We need a cb crys the message board we look to be signing one but not this one WA WA WA. Damned if you do dammed if you don't.

    Well yes.

He avoided relegation last season as opposed to not avoiding it.

Hopefully most people aren't satisfied with that going forward so it's what happens next that counts.

Hmm yeah I think I agree with that we have to continue to move forward which we have been doing since he came in as soon as we don't it has to be looked at but for the moment it's fine.

This is how I think Mowbray sees our pecking order in terms of defenders (providing we do land Adarabioyo).

    Right back: Bennett, Adarabioyo, Nyambe

Left back: Bell, Downing, Williams, Hart

Centre Back: Lenihan, Mulgrew, Williams, Adarabioyo, Nyambe

A lack of quality defenders and baffling loyalty to the likes of Bennett will be our downfall. I’d love Nyambe to nail down his place and Adarabioyo and Hart to provide a nice surprise, but without a real quality centre back coming in we are in trouble. That’s a relegation defence.

Its not great tbh but there are others in a worse boat than us in terms of player trading this summer.

Look, Coyle didn't deliver at Rovers but by and large, much of last season's team and promising Academy youngsters were all here when Mowbray arrived.

Mowbray has given us Dack with Rothwell also showing much promise.  Other than that, his player trading, IMO, is p1ss poor - £7+million spunked away on Brereton, Raya sold only to see Walton and possibly Eastwood to come in to replace, add an array of over 30's in Downing, Johnson and possibly Adam and it's stuff that doesn't get my pulse racing.

Wait you don't like the Brereton deal you should have said.

The picture you paint of us finishing 15th then 15th a few years later conveniently misses out the coyle spell where he all but relegated the club so no your wrong he was 100% doughnut.

In 2015/16 - the season before Mowbray arrived, we finished 15th in the Championship.

In 2018/19, after two and a half seasons with Mowbray in charge, we finished 15th in the Championship.

We are NOT progressing!  When will the penny drop?

If Mowbray gets us any higher than 15th this coming season, I would be extremely surprised.

We've lost a goalie with far more potential than wither Walton or Eastwood and signed Gallagher for £5million because I think Mowbray spunked £7+million away on Brereton.

For me, an underwhelming window so far and that's being generous.

We are progressing sorry your just painting it in the most negative light we where in league 1 and where never really in a relegation battle that's progress from when TM took over. The squad we have now along with the youngsters we have coming through are vastly superior to the one inherited by Mowbray.

No mate, the CLUB have a plan to buy and develop young players to sell (strategically and if necessary) in order to balance the books whilst progressing towards promotion. - Evidenced over the last 12 months when they’ve spoken about it, Maddison from Norwich and selling ‘a Dack’ etc.

I simply used the 5 players mentioned and priced them at £10m -15m based on their age and potential and stated the £50-75m potential return.

But you keep slinging those insults pal.

Not sure why it's so hard for people to grasp this was this not a similar model we employed for years in the prem.

Tuanzebe? The player Villa are trying to sign and Manchester United just a day ago said has a good chance of being part of their first team plans this season? Nah, we wont be getting him.

Villa have signed hause, mings, engels and konsa who along with Chester means they are relatively well stocked with cbs. The more likely thing standing in the way is man u wanting to keep him tho this might change if they land slab head.

Point still stands that if Bennett and Bell are full backs, our defence will be one of the poorest in the league no matter who is at CB or in goal.

I disagree one quality cb will help massively a goal keeper is a must but to throw in the need for two full backs this late is just setting the manager up to fail which I guess is the whole point of this

A new back 4 bar Leninhan is required don't think we will get 3 additions for Charlton game. And a new keeper. Depends on whether he uses loan signings to to bolster squad

I don't think we need three additions to the back four if we are being honest and I think it's unreasonable to expect this to be the case we need a cb ( possibly two) and a keeper.
