I'd be very surprised if we don't start the season 4-2-3-1. We certainly are not going to be going 4-3-3 or 4-4-2 because playing that system we take Dack (our most effective player) out of his best position. About the only way we could play 2 out and out centre forward's is by playing 3/5 at the back but given that we don't even have two good centre backs there is no way we can line up like that.

Also at the end of the day Mowbray is a cautious manager, it's not in his make up to start with an attacking line up to take the game to the opponents. Mowbray likes to set up to try not to lose rather than set up to win.

You could play a middle of

         Travis johnson

    Gally       Dack.       Arma

                     Graham

Considering what he's like maybe they have a backup plan which will now be put into effect. They should look abroad or go for Jason Wilcox who is the complete opposite of someone who would leave after 3 months.

As for Newcastle how can you possibly gloss over replacing Rafael Benitez with Bruce? Would they even have the nerve to try? Newcastle fans are generally over supportive of locals but in this case there may be an exception.

Living up this way I have several mates who have season tickets to Newcastle and this year none of them have renewed for the coming season.

Well with us spending £5 Million on a new striker he isn't going to be playing much more if anymore at all this season. It also make's you wonder if we have such a superstar in Brereton why did we need to spend £5 Million on another striker? It's not like we a short of them.

Possibly so that barring any injuries to DG of Dack we have options of switching how we play which thankfully in my eyes we now do.

He's shown nothing to suggest that there is a player in there. Also by signing Gallagher he has only moved further down the pecking order, we play one up front so he is now 3rd choice striker at best.

Have to agree to disagree the fact is we have a highly rated young striker who is still a baby in football terms if he reaches the potential expected of him we will make money on him.

Plenty of sides have gone from mid table to the top 6 with out spending that sort of money on their entire team let alone just on forwards. It is massive money in this division because the vast majority of sides could not afford to spend that unless they sold a player or two for big money or they had parachute payments.

Also if we do have aspirations for top 6 then it would be more prudent to spend some of that £15 Million on the defence instead of using it on 3 players who are all strikers. Unless the defence is strengthened significantly then we will be no way near the top 6.

Personally I think the Gallagher signing is an acknowledgement that the Brereton signing has not worked, had Brereton scored say 7 or 8 goals last season then I highly doubt that we would have signed Gallagher. The Gallagher signing pushes Brereton even further down the order and leaves us with the problem of what to do with a £7 Million dud.

Maybe try and get the best out of him help the 20 Yr old player mature and make a player out of him.

It’s not a massive amount of money for a mid table team with aspirations of getting into the top 6. I’d actually add the £3m we spent on AA and make it £15m spend.

Three young, British forwards with potential for £15m total spend is good going. I think the plan is to sell Dack next summer for £15-20m and reset.

I also think the potential values of Rothwell, Travis and Lenihan plus the emergence of Buckley, Magloire, Davenport, Chapman and Butterworth mean we’re in a good position and contrary to the insistent negativity, not whoring out our major assets but building for the future.

We have a very good core of young British players coming through if we can add a keeper and maybe a couple of defenders we will be in a strong position to kick on this season which in turn will boost the values of the players we currently have.

Also the feeling around the place seems to be positive everywhere barring here sometimes with loan players seemingly wanting to find a way back to the club ( Harry Reed apart but I don't think there's a lot we can do about British geography)

His legs have to go eventually.

This is true but I took your post as meaning we might get raided by a league one side ha.

Dack will eventually be sold unfortunately unless we go up which I can't see I do think with we would struggle to replace him as he's so crucial to the team but with us having a decent collection of strikers it would allow us to move Arma Gally or Brereton in two a two up top with DG which would help them hopefully.

Loaning Brereton out until January would be a good move for club and player. Will we do it though?

We’ve still not seen any major departures this window (Raya notwithstanding, who apparently wanted out). It’s hard to believe that there aren’t teams out there who want Dack, possibly even Danny Graham for an ambitious League One side. If we lose one of those it might paint a different picture and put more onus on Brereton being part of our first team plans.

There will definitely be teams out there who would bid for Dack but I honestly don't see us losing DG to a league one team no matter how big their ambition.

    Welcome back Sam!

His career went downhill after he left us. Let's hope he shows Blackburn form not Birmingham!

Happy with this while his time at Birmingham was not great he joined them under Harry redknapp when they signed 13 new players and where a bit of a basket case. Hopefully now he's found a settled club and can get his head down confident he has a home not just getting loaned here and there he can kick on.

Yeah, I imagine he'll end up back at Villa. Possibly a loan to buy deal depending on whether they survive this season or not. Might be out of our league in terms of loan fee/wage as well to be honest.

How many center backs do villa need they have signed mings konsa hause and are getting a cb from reims as well

This is why this transfer just seems ridiculous on paper

We will have 12 million spent on two centre forwards when we seemingly only play with one and love to pack the midfield.

Everyone one on here and I am sure the club too can see that we are desperate for players at the other end and instead we sign the fifth striker for only one open position??

Honestly, does this transfer mean Dack is on the way out?

I have my doubts that's the case if we were so sure Dack was about to be sold the fee would have been much easier to agree than it has been.
