Third or fourth time I’ve heard Joe Rankin-Costello referred to as not very potent with his attacking. It’s his main bloody deal. Carried our youth team at times in the last four years. Missed him a lot when injured. He can score goals, pick some good passes. He’s been a victim of a defensive position I think.

Check out his goal vs Burnley here.

I'll check out any goal against Burnley!

  2. Wasn't aware we were being asked to sign up for anything yet. The last I heard was in the Telegraph a couple of days ago when no decision had been made.

All I know is I will be signing up when it is made, this is my club and its worth more than a few quid in my back pocket., especially in the current climate.

This forum isn’t representative, we all know that, and that’s said as someone who is a staunch defender of brfcs.

As I said, if you think we have an outraged fanbase over the refunds, fair enough. I jus didn’t see it, actually expected more outrage than there was.

Think you're right, certainly everybody I spoke to wasn't interested in a refund.

That injury took half a yard of pace off him though.

Not according to Shearers comments in a TV program with Gary Neville. Said the cruciate injury had no effect on his style of play at all, felt as good as ever.

It was an achilles injury later in his career he reckons made him change the way he played with Newcastle

Many, many players have had a similar injury at his age or older and not only came back the same, but better. With modern medical and fitness procedures, it's not the injury that it once was.

I agree it is unlikely someone will bid that for him now, but I think that's lucky for us. Of course players can get injured again, but nowadays I think players expect to actually come back stronger from these type of injuries.

Accepting £10 million now would be stupid. There is a very long list of worse players who moved for more than that. If he starts well in his first 3 games back, let alone say 5, he will be back in the £15-20 million bracket.

Shearer missed half of his first season with Blackburn through injury after snapping his right anterior cruciate ligament in a match against Leeds United in December 1992, but scored 16 goals in the 21 games in which he did feature.[9]

Didn't do too bad for us after that!

  6. No thanks.

As I've said a few times on here, goalkeeping standards in my opinion are at rock bottom at the moment and have been for the last 5 years or so.

God knows who we will end up with, but as long as he can do a cruyff turn in his own 6 yard box and spray 60 yard balls out to the wing, that seems to be the criteria these days

just my opinion and based on that Mowbray wanted this European scouting network in place. So surely its time we used to make signings from otherwise it is a waste of time.

Have to say that in my time of watching football, the standard of goalkeeping has never been worse.

Every game I watch seems to have a howler or two, and I am convinced it is due to the way managers now want keepers to be better with their feet than their hands.

Just keep the ball out of the bloody net!

    Oh for big Brad.

Whoa, I enjoyed last night but let's not get giddy.

Walton is absolutely dreadful by far the worst permanent keeper I've seen playing for us and if it's true we turned down the chance to send him back in January it's yet another  lamentable decision imo

Walton seems completely incapable of catching a shot coming towards him, he did my head in at weekend when he straight arm punched a weak shot at chest height out for a corner. That in itself is an art it's be easier to catch it than five away a needless corner.

Said it before, for me Raya has massive natural talent and whilst he makes mistakes more than makes up for it by making stupendous saves he's no right to make. Walton makes just as money mistakes if not more and for me is relatively talentless and rarely makes any saves you wouldn't expect him to make. He's ok on simple crosses and spreading himself on a one on one, but that's about it. His shot stopping ability is more or less non existent.

Never heard so much tosh in all my life. If you think we can get hold of 2 new keepers in the summer that will be better than Walton you're in cloud cuckoo land. Every week there are goalkeepers making horrendous errors, including Pickford (supposedly the best keeper in England,) De Gea and Lloris to name a few. The Leeds keeper has supposedly been to blame for many of their recent goals and Raya has been badly at fault in the last 2 games. Cameron Dawson, a keeper we were interested in made a horrendous error at the weekend and then there was Hulls keeper for the 3rd goal last night.

I would take Walton any day of the week if we could afford him

If FFP is as dire as they will use the excuse now, then why the actual fuck have you opted to recall Mulgrew and his £16k a week, and not loaned out expensive flops/backups on loan like Smallwood, Samuel, Chapman and Brereton.

    That's what, minimum (generous) £50k a week.

    Clueless.

Rovers didn't recall Mulgrew, he chose to come back himself even though he wouldn't get game time.

As for the others, they were touted around but you can't make other clubs buy them

  10. RANGERS' JONES IN DEMAND

Rangers winger Jordan Jones is the subject of loan interest from a number of Championship and League One clubs, and appears likely to leave Ibrox before Friday’s deadline.

Jones was on the bench for Rangers’ game against Ross County on Wednesday but has failed to make an meaningful impact since signing on a pre-contract last summer from Kilmarnock.

Earlier this week it was reported Jones and fellow winger Brandon Barker would be allowed to leave this month, with Steven Gerrard now looking to free up space to add to his squad. Gerrard has recalled winger Jake Hastie from his loan spell at Rotherham, heightening competition in that area.
