You can all sh!t on this as a worthless twitter rumour but.......

A Sheff Wednesday fan has tweeted that he was in a bar with the Rotherham United squad and the midfielder Will Vaulks said he was in talks with Rovers. There is no reason for someone like that to spread bull but you never know i suppose. I suppose we will soon find out if that is true and if it materialises or not. Think the real fun and games will start properly in 4 to 5 weeks. Lets hope it's a productive summer.

Iv asked someone at Rotherham. Reckons it’s possible that we could be in for Vaulks. Shef Wed defo are...described as good (not great) technically, great athlete, leader and top lad.

Reckons Mowbray talked more about how much he liked Ajayi after the last game. 6ft 6 CB that lad...?

As long as we have dealings with that agency there will continue to be a smell that just won’t go away.

Trouble is, as Phil’s post illustrates, agents in general are a stench all of their own.

I agree that agencies aren’t great. But dealing with SEM was never the problem. It was the control that SEM once had over the club that was the real problem. That issue no longer exists, ergo...

SEM is not the only problem.

Although they are not supposed to, prominent agents in effect work as networks with affiliated smaller agents.

One such agent has about 150 ostensibly independent agents tightly inside his network.

On the general point, agents cannot be avoided but it comes down to management and ownership as to whether the agents are de facto running the club.

On this basis, within the last two years, Rovers have again come to look like a proper football club business. Agents crossing boundaries thrive where there is no effective management to shoo them out of where they don't belong.

Being optimistic, Venky's have perhaps learned the very hard and expensive way.

I think Stuart pointing out that SEM represent Smallwood was an intimation that the stench of Anderson and Kean is still alive. I’m pretty sure that it isn’t.

If we have to sell a Dack because we bought a Brereton, there is something very wrong with recruitment.

It is what it is...if we want to go up we have to spend some money. The only way that we can get back level if we don’t go up is to cash in on a player or two. If the fans got up and went to games then that would help too...

What Mowbray has said has to be taken with a pinch of salt as all managers tend to speak well at these things, talk is cheap, but i agree it is going to be interesting. The footballs been turgid in the main to watch this season really, there have been shoots of promise lately and lets see if he can carry it on through.

Its going to be incredibly difficult to move senior players like Mulgrew, Smallwood and Bennett on because they are all on flush new deals, thats Mowbrays doing.

But the bottom line is irrelevant as to whether anyone "deserves" more supporters, ultimately if Waggott puts the prices up again it will do nothing to tempt anyone back, and it will be him that has let Mowbray and the team down, no one else. Waggotts attitude is to put the onus on the supporters who are essentially floating fans, almost as if hes removed of any responsibility and control in terms of getting fans back to support the team.

The onus works both ways. The club have made some positive steps since appointing the manager. What V’s did to our club was horrendous but it’s clear to me that all of the rotten stench from Kean and Anderson has gone now....money isn’t the issue imo. People will find the money to pay for anything that is a priority in their lives.

  6. And regardless of whether you believe me and those who have been in involved it’s public record that they’re (Venkys) are a few (million) quid in and continue to fund us. Regardless of if we like them or not.

Unless I’m missing something there’s no one else pumping in £1m+ a month to our ‘beloved’ club is there?

Yeah but so many in such a short space of time with no reinvestment coming back in.

Gestede, Rhodes, Cairney, Hanley, Duffy, Ollson, Marshall, King

Then we bought Williams for like 100k.

That was the same situ as we could be in next season. Gaz had invested and that squad was expensive in terms of wages etc. Once we weren’t going up they had to balance the books for ffp.

There will Be sales at the end of next season too if we don’t go up.

How did Cheston end up funding the club with emergency loans a few seasons ago if money has never been a problem? He's still employed so one assumes the fault wasn't his.

I don’t know (and neither do you) why, how or even if this happened in the way you say...

What I do know from speaking to people  who have had direct experiences is that when money is asked for. It usually gets paid for. As per my initial point.

You sound like a Venky advert!

"very rarely refused to release the cash" my arse.

It’s the truth. Ask anyone who’s been at the club since Venkys took over. I’m not saying they haven’t been guilty of messing things up. BUT the common theme amongst everyone Iv ever spoken to is that money is never a problem.

Have to admit I watched it about 5 times too. His finger bashing on the table was a favourite part of mine. Defenders (bash), well I have no defense. New defenders are coming (bash). In no uncertain terms he has said that the're not good enough collectively at this level.

Its completely right though, how many goals were down to individual errors from the likes of Williams, Bell, Raya and Mulgrew this season? You could argue that the way we've set up a lot has invited pressure on them too but they should be doing better. Also, how many times did we bottle it collectively in the last 15 minutes? Going from winning to losing in a matter of minutes - thats mental strength if you ask me.

Of course there’s a collective defensive responsibility and your points on mentality and coaching are bang on. Prior to January most of the goals we’d conceded later on were imo due to game management.

But SOOOO many times since we have conceded goals and lost games because of basic player mistakes. Mistakes which had nothing to do with coaching or experience.

Mowbray certainly saying the right things, and I’d love nothing more than for him to deliver them!

But, if Venky’s ownership has shown us anything, it’s that actions speak louder than words.

They’ve very rarely refused to release the cash. The key here is whether we can find the right talent.

I keep watching the clip of him over and over. It’s bloody brilliant! The final part about defenders leads you to believe that some of the defender deals are already agreed. He’s so confident at that point.

Reading between the lines, I think they’re confident of getting the funds to spend a lot of cash this summer in order to get promotion. Having accepted that if they fall short they will have to cash in on an asset or two next season to balance the books....

Bloody hell, get me my renewal price over ASAP so I can get paid up for next season!! ???

*Joking aside I really hope some people come back next season. The lads and Tony deserve it. You never know how many exciting seasons there will be.

  12. His comments don’t surprise me. There’s been a lot said on here and people suggesting that he’s going to blindly stick with this player or that one...but that makes no sense at all. Why would he risk getting himself the bullet to keep a player who has proven he cannot cut it? Fair enough, he said he’d give them a chance and he has. But I was always confident that he’d have the metal to replace anyone who wasn’t up to it...it makes no sense for him personally to persevere!?

“67 goals. They’ve shown they can’t do the job at this level. New defenders are coming, and the current ones know it.”

He’s right. Half the goals we let in were from idiotic blunders.

That’s a new goalie, RB and CH then for starters.

Mate....it’s a bloody LB for starters. Bell is awful

Have absolutely no idea how you got this from the article you linked.

He specifically says we have a midfield that just tackles and presses and that he wants more - he intends to sign players who are more comfortable on the ball.

People just see what they want to see...i agree entirely with you. Unfathomable really. ?

Wonder what Tony's idea of Technical mean? Evans & Smallwood?

    His comment don't make sense.

    Patient...Just be Patient

I think it’s pretty clear. Damning but clear. He’s saying that the current crop of CM’s is not fit for purpose with his new progressive style. He basically writes Rodwell off saying he needed a footballer in CM and preferred to play Rothwell out of position than keep Rodwell on ?...

In fact I’d go as far to say that he’s writing them all off bar Travis. And even he is put in his place in relation to where he is in his development. Furthermore Mowbray talks about midfielderS (plural) ...maybe he’s looking at buying two?

Mustve gone looking at CM’s last week?

You say Dack is the "best footballer at the club" and I agree but he should then win Rovers "Player of the Year" shouldn't he?

But, despite the stats, we all know he's under-performed in comparison to his natural talent.

Or, more worryingly, he can only show that sort of form in League 1.

There’s a difference between being the best ‘footballer’ and being player of the year though. The former is a skill based, purist opinion of how someone plays the beautiful game. The latter is the person who has impacted the most games through Skill, grit, determination etc...

His stats tell you that he has NOT underperformed over a season. His stats are better than our player of the year Graham. But on closer inspection you can see how inconsistent he’s been and allied with his reputation for off the field antics and lifestyle, fans feel underwhelmed. That he’s let them down at times.

The truth is, if he was able to maintain the type of form he’s shown in patches this season over 40 games and therefore multiply his goals and assists then he wouldn’t play for Blackburn Rovers. He’d be playing in the Premier League.

  17. No worries. I’m only saying what I hear.

There’s little doubt that the major reason Chapman was seen as an impact sub was a) because his body couldn’t cope with 90 mins and b) because of his age...well he’ll be another year on and they’re working tirelessly to strengthen his body so he can play 90 mins. The feeling is that he will absolutely terrorise defenders for long periods now...

Davenport started and played a full season for Burton and will be two years on from then in September. Injuries have set him back but he’s seen as technically talented and experienced at this level.

Both are seen as young players now ready to impact the first 11. I can’t wait to see Davenport on Sunday.

  18. 12 hours ago, roversfan99 said:

People who have criticised him will be as happy as anyone else should Brereton come good. From where is the belief that Chapman and Davenport are potential first teamers next year?

This is the buzz and chatter around the club. Do you not believe that Chapman and Davenport will be in the first team mix next year?
