There's no way Dack turns into a high press player for 90 mins every game.  Rhodes couldn't do it either.

His talents can still be harnessed though just get others around him doing it whilst leaving him to find space.

Dack and Ayala are in the danger zone in this set up.

Dack isn’t built athletically for the press and Ayala won’t like being isolated with strikers when both fullbacks are pushed on.

Its going to be interesting….I reckon both will be gone in 12 months.

Relax....JDT wants to asses squad in Portugal... after this week he will adress our weaknesses and which young guns he think can make it to the first team and the ones who wont..... think theres a last chance for Magloire, Butterworth, Vale and Barnes....

Absolutely - I think JDT will get what he wants when he’s ready.

The four youth lads will do REALLY well to impress him enough. Fingers crossed they do!

  3. Re the contracts - surely we can draw a line under them now. No one can be forced to sign them, it’s based almost purely on the individual and how they perceive themselves. That’s why the likes of Dack, Buckley, Trav and Kaminski signed whilst the others didn’t. You offer them what you can and it’s then upto them. The biggest and only real mistake is not pushing them out of the door for a fee in one of the last two summers.

Havong Wallace, Dembele and two others lined up for net zero on the Rothwell deal in January is a sickener. Though I can understand the stance of Venkys not to want to let Joe go, in hindsight, it would’ve been a good move for the club.

Of the youth - They like Phillips. Very excited, there’s £4m - £5m on the table now from a couple of circling PL clubs but we believe he’ll be a £25m+ defender very soon. Adam Wharton and Harry Leonard are the other top ones but none are expected by us to breakthrough and be mainstays so we need those 5-6 senior positions filling sooner rather than later.

The big one for me is Bezza. He needs to be pushed out of the door now if he’s not signing . Gone to the highest bidder to prevent us losing a fortune next summer and to empower us to buy this summer.

You keeping slamming these loans spells Sam Burns had or Jack Vale had without seeing them live for those clubs? is this correct? If you watched of those games can you say what was good and bad about their performances?

I think @Mike Eis right to say that we should be given some players a chance to be part of the first team squad going forward. @J*Bsaid yesterday that players like Adam Wharton, Harry Leonard, etc will be given the chance to impress on our pre season training camp to Portugal

Wood looks a very good prospect for the future.

They will be given a chance Chris but the consensus of opinion is that there’s no one banging the door down this season. Phillips, A.Wharton and Leonard are the golden guys but not expected to breakthrough this time…

We need to acquire some players 👍🏼

Yeah but if Mowbray had been appointed at West Brom then chances are Venus would have been following him there.

I'm sorry but very hard to believe any of this that isn't a criticism of you sharing it but i just don't think that's the way things went down

That’s fine. Everyone tries to apply their own logic. Quick one though….Venus asking the lads not to sign elsewhere in the belief that Tony would get the WBA job this summer in no way stops the lads from disliking him because he’s a bully. They’re not related.

But I’m fine with whatever you think went down pal.

RN not so long ago he wasn't signing because Venus had advised him he could join himself and Mowbray at West Brom on much better deals.

That is what you were telling us not long ago, now I know you will reply that it was Rothwells dad said it but even if the case it turned out to be well wrong and are now saying it's the complete opposite that Nyambe's reluctance to initially sign a new deal here was due to bullying from Venus?

It wasn’t actually that wrong….believe it or not, Mowbray was WBA choice before Bruce and he turned them down. Bruce held onto his job by the skin of his teeth or it would’ve come to fruition….

As for Nyambe, his relationship with TM is / was brilliant. It’s Venus who created the bad feeling…which I’ve been told is the thing which destabilised RN 🤷🏽‍♂️

I think the shambles of the situation in losing three players for nothing can be summed up quite easily.

Rothwell- he was always going to go, so I’m a bit easier with that one, but it’s incompetence of the highest order to turn down a £3 Million bid from the club the player ultimately ends up at anyway, then lose them for free!

Lenihan- if we didn’t have Ayala on the books, would we have been able to afford to keep him? I think it’s a point worth considering, especially given we signed Ayala to a decent contract, knowing his wretched injury record.

Nyambe- a bit of a strange one in all honesty. I thought with a change of manager, he may stay, so I suppose this puts to bed the argument he wanted out because of Mowbray. He was good for us defensively, but attacking wise, offered very little if we’re being completely true with ourselves.

In all fairness though, if someone gets the opportunity to earn more money elsewhere to do the same job, in what they perceive to be better conditions, then I’d certainly jump ship and I imagine the rest of us would too. That’s why I always find it a bit strange that fans hold footballers to a different standard.

JR - Agreed - the fee was £3.5m rising to £6m if / when they went up.

DL - I think they went above and beyond. Boro just went (a lot) higher.

RN - has become disaffected by Venus (bully) and thought he’d get a lot more money elsewhere. As of last week those offers were not forthcoming. I have a feeling we have dug our heels in and he will end up on the same / less money at lesser / similar club.

Wallace was in talks with Besiktas in January.Sorry Paul but no way I believe Wallace had agreed to come here on the wages we pay

And I'm quoting the Peterborough chairman on Dembele

We might have had players lined up but not in the class of Wallace. Not buying that at all

I don’t know any of that, but the person who told me this was as close to those negotiating these deals as you could be…🤷🏽‍♂️

Easy to say now, alot of us at the time would've been fuming if they'd of cashed in on rothwell. Especially since Bournemouth were a direct rival at the time (sounds stupid now with how we finished). Not selling him was seen as a positive. He was arguably playing the best he ever had for rovers. The way it went down with him having come crawling back. Cap in hand and do the interview was bad. Should've just kept it under wraps for me there was no good could come from that. Even if he'd been spotted on the south coast.

Yep, I’d probably have been pissed off too mate. But Dembele, Wallace and a couple more would’ve appeased me.

So it was said a while before we hit the top 2.

I think what we can all take from this is nobody comes out smelling of Rovers in our eyes, not the players nor the club.  Like you say it should never have got to this point not with all 3 of them anyway.

The lack of strong decisive leadership and authority to make decisions is the root cause yet again, hopefully the new set up irons this out.

    Nail on head.

Its true that Waggott had his hands tied at Christmas. I think, by his admission he’d have taken the cash for any one of those three and they did have deals lined up for some good players.

But this should NEVER have got to the 6 months point. We don’t have the finances to let out better players go for free. If they (or anyone) isn’t going to sign they should have been sold the summer before last or last summer at the very latest.

Lol Dembele and Wallace were coming in on The wages we pay?Nonsense

Plus the Peterborough chairman said Dembele had no interest in joining us and wanted Bournemouth

Agreements were apparently in place for those two plus another two and wouldn’t have cost us a penny with the fee plus freed wages for Joe.

Suhail stopped the sale. That was the end of that.

To say he'd happily have sold all 3 at Christmas after they'd played key parts in getting us into automatic promotion places speaks volumes of the brains and ambition.

Who in their right mind would have even considered that at that point unless the baliffs were knocking.

    Clowns.

He said as clear as day, “If they don’t want to sign I’ll sell them all at Christmas” this is what we should have done with at least 1 or 2.

Though we really shouldn’t have been in that situation.

But it's not that simple is it?  We couldn't do without him, he knew it and instead hung on and pocketed the big wage on his next move...he's only getting big money because there was no fee to pay....are you saying that wasn't DL and his agents choice?

Of course we can do without him. Players come and players go.

The budget is the budget. Those cribbing about us not just paying him what he wants have obviously never run a business.

BUT the club need to get tougher with these players. There should be full reviews done at the ‘2yrs’ point. At that point you’ll get a feeling as to how it’s gonna go. I’d sell anyone who has no intention of extending at that point and allow any who are unsure to drift towards that 1yr mark. But no one would be going into the last year for me. I’d have them sold in that summer and have a recruitment plan geared to replace with the cash from sales.

Really feel for Waggot sometimes.. Players playing games & yet he has to run a ship that’s leaking money ….

These 3 players had no intention to resign and have been playing the club for years now …. Even Mowbray was fed up of answering questions …..They should have been sold off but even then nobody wanted to sign them apart from Bournemouth in the last 6 years but the owners put a stop to that ….. Waggots done well with GB & jDT by hook or by crook …..

The quicker the round table gets installed at Brockhall the better we can start signing players ……

Haha - I’m glad you said that first!

I agree, he has his hands tied a lot by Suhail (Venkys). I know from the conversation I had with him after the Sheff U game that he’d have happily sold all three at Christmas and wasn’t allowed to.

  15. 13 minutes ago, 47er said:

Its simple alright but meaningless. If the offers were too low for the players involved then of course they would reject them. and that's obviously how all 3 felt.

We've thrown 3 first-teamers away for nothing. That is failure and will cost more than nothing to replace them like for like won't it?

Looks like we'll be reliant on loans again instead of building a side.

Losing three players is not great. I know for a fact that both Rothwell and Lenihan have got deals between 2.5x and 4x what we can pay. It’s really as simple as that - Money!

What really should lead to the club being hauled over the coals is why this wasn’t sorted last summer.

A simple “Darragh, we’re offering X, is that enough for you or not?”

    Darragh - “No”

Us - “Right, tell your agent to find you another club please”

    SOLD!!

Not selling JR at Christmas was sacrilege. SW and TM had four players including Siriki Dembele and Jed Wallace lined up on long deals which would’ve cost net Zero against the sale, only for Suhail (Venkys) to refuse the sale.
