manager role is, it's a weird way of doing business.

Such a weird thing to impose. If Lowe and Benson were highly rated I'd get it but neither seem to be?

Genuine question; I know they're not rated by pretty much everyone on here, but I don't see any noises from inside or outside the club within the game saying they're unsuited? What makes everyone think they're so poor?

Believe it or not, sometimes people scroll through threads just browsing rather than because their in a specific topic.

Even moreso when you're a mod, scouring the site for singles and other evildoers!

Since when was it evil to be single? Sounds a bit harsh to me.

Whether we ought to have beaten Sheffield United or not, we didn't, thats all that matters.

Can't disagree with that, but it illustrates two things:

    - the inconsistency of all teams in this division across the season; and

    - we should fear no-one IF we reach the playoffs.

I’m pretty pessimistic with most things Rovers, who isn’t after the last few years but I can’t believe some of the stuff I read at times.

Take a step back, we’re 4th in the league with 11 games to go (10 of which are against 11th or lower in the league). Even the most optimistic person on this board wouldn’t have said that at the start of the season.

We lost to Fulham away - toughest game of the season - bring out the pitchforks if we get < 6 points from the next 3 home games

"Football fans in spouting hyperbole" shock!!

I've learnt that on a match thread there's always massive overreaction to the good, the bad and the ugly. It seems more prevalent in respect of the bad & ugly, but nevertheless is there on both sides.

Like garnersfags said, I see both sides. Our recent results & performances have been, in the main underwhelming, no argument, & the lack of goals scored is worrying. But in context:

    - we all knew our run of fixtures in early 2022 was tough; quelle surprise, it has been

    - we all knew our squad depth would be tested come this point in the season; quelle surprise it has been

    - we all thought 2nd place would be beyond us; quelle surprise it looks like that's the case.

None of the above is a shock or unexpected, so let's not get too het up at it coming to fruition.

Despite everything, we're still 4th. That proves 2 things:

    1. Our season prior to New Year was outstanding; and

    2. Our rivals have, in the main, been inconsistent & have not capitalised on their games in hand as they would have hoped.

If we'd have been offered this scenario back in August, all of us would have taken it. We now treat this situation as a mini league; there will be so many thrills & disappointments in the next 2 months, starting on Tuesday (which i expect will be tough as Millwall are after a 6th consecutive victory).

We've done enough so far, even during this poor run, to prove ourselves to be as worthy of promotion from this division as anyone else bar Fulham; we now seem to be approaching a favourable set of fixtures on paper compared to our rivals, so let's focus on the positives of that is my overall feeling.

  5. Free hit?? Absolutely not, esp given some of the other fixtures.

This is the chance for the team to put things right. THAT defeat will forever be an embarrassment for us as fans, but also for the players as professionals. It will be mostly the same personnel that play, and this is where they can show what they've learnt since in terms of intelligent, counter attacking football & game management.

Didn't Leicester beat Southampton 9-0 at St Mary's a few seasons back, only for Saints to win the return fixture?  That's what we should be looking to emulate.

Nine clean sheets in our last 11… I never thought I’d be saying that 😅

Seriously, that’s where this game will be won. Our defending has been amazing. They aren’t perfect, but they are talented, & confident.

It's a fine stat fir sure, but as much if not more so than talented & confident, they're brave & committed. It's great to see!

Even though others below us are winning games, Bournemouth are the ones I want Rovers to be gunning for. The antics of that club over the past few days has added extra spice to the rest of this season and I quite like that. We've had plenty of bland seasons with PNE as the only game with an 'edge'. This time we're really fighting for something and Bournemouth know it. Bring it on, I say.

I wasn't all that fussed about them up until Saturday, but their behaviour since then has got me going into Keegan mode.

Clearly rattled, they try to unsettle Rothwell and our squad. They go on a spending spree to try and blow us out of the automatic race. Then to top it off they beat us to Dembele. The pressure is on Parker and I'm going to enjoy watching them drop points. Just hope we can keep applying the pressure, a win on Saturday would be a big help in that regard.

I'm also loving the fact that 6 out of our next 7 are on Sky, there should be more to come later on too, you'd think. It's going to be nervy and exciting to watch it all unfold. COYB.

I agree with all that apart from the last para.

Whilst I like to watch as many games as possible and can't get to away games due to family commitments, our record on Sky is rubbish & I'm sure all the random KO times mess with travel & pre match prep routines for the squad, and the fans.

And the club loses matchday revenue on the home games; dunno how that stacks up against the match fee sky pays, but still... I'd prefer bums on seat at Ewood & a more buoyant atmosphere to being watched on TV, I'm sure the players would to.

All that said, it's a good dilemma to have!

  8. Well they tried a newish face in Ismael but that didn't work out too well...

Interesting to note that many of the managers who lots of us were touting as worthy replacements for TM in the summer (Hughton, Ismael, McCarthy, Jokanovic, Karanka  Johnson, Cook) are all polishing up their CVs...

    Football eh?! 🤣

Comparing us to Bournemouth and Fulham doesn't really work. As well as having a prolific striker they do have others chipping in to a greater extent than our supporting forwards. Fulham are out of sight. They also have players providing much more assists than us. I think it speaks volumes for Brereton's finishing this season that he's managed to get 20 goals with less support than Mitrovic and Solanke (on paper).

I don't think anyone was asking for a 30 goal a season player, just a bit of strengthening in that area. Butterworth has gone and Gallagher looks a passenger in most games.

It sounds like Mowbray was trying to sign someone, I imagine that's why they let Butterworth go on loan. Maybe we'll see a free agent come in.

Fulham are clearly streets ahead in an attacking sense, but the point re Bournemouth stands up so why shouldn't we compare ourselves with them? We've scored one more goal than them (ergo also got 1 more assist), and only Billings is in the top scorers chart for them besides Solanke, but he's only got one more goal than Gally has in twice as many games.

I have more faith than most in Gally, and believe his stats back that up.

My main fear re Bournemouth now is Keifer Moore; I think he could easily score 12-15 goals in the remainder of the season in a side that plays long ball & puts good crosses in, but then again that's not Bournemouth's style. They prefer to play on the floor and I can't see how Solanke & Moore can play together in either system  so it's either one or t'other most games.

For those that think we'll be okay if Brereton is absent for a period of time, turn away from your tv screens now.

Thing is, that table could be overlaid on last season, only with AA ahead of BBD (or BB as he was then!), and SG below them.

This season, BBD has taken AA's place, albeit to most people's surprise. If BBD gets injured, any one if SG, Khadra, Hedges or even Dack could cover him.

Take Mitrovic's 30 goals off Fulham, Solanke's off Bournemouth or Grabban's off Forest and they're in a similar position.

Yes another goalscorer would've been great, but they don't grow on trees & I'm not convinced Maja or Healy or Dembele would've been the answer.
