Burnley Rovers didn't adopt their Claret n Boo colour's until 1910..and even then in was in homage to Aston Villa.

Wonder who influenced their early kits!!😆

I tell that one to Burnley fans. I say they used to be called Burnley Rovers and they played in horizontal blue and white halves. Probably copying off Blackburn then they copied off Aston Villa as they were a successful team at the time. They hate it and they might as well be sticking their fingers in their ears saying "blah blah blah can't hear you!" when I explain it.

They do unfortunately seem like one of the best sides the Championship has had for a few years - still that's what happens when you spend essentially more than the rest of the league combined on transfer fees (let's not get into the bollocks that is "but what about net spend!!!").

Yeah I have to agree with that. I saw on the Reading's fan forum that they have a thread called 'record watch' and basically they are quaking at their boots that Burnley may take their record points total for the championship. Not an exact quote but they have been saying that Rovers are their only hope of stopping it. Not all heroes  wear capes I guess.

  3. Great win last night. Still buzzing about it now. The thing that disappointed me was that we allowed Reading to gain confidence and get into the game. That confidence came from that fact that they should have been at least 3-0 down but found themselves still only trailing by 1. Not going to take anything away from Joe Lumley, he pulled off some great saves and kept his side in it. Still though, win is a win and being pegged back allowed us to show our character to take back the lead. Under Mowbray we would have got a draw at best in that fixture as he would of slouched and shrugged.

  4. I know a few neutrals that have got tickets for tonight's game. £10 a ticket for live championship football is an appealing prospect it seems. I think the club offering this promotion can only be seen as a positive and that's despite seeing a few opinions that have somehow turned it into a negative. Maybe 'The Halo Effect' could be at play there.

  5. Before the Sheffield United game I looked at the table and estimated that another 6 wins were needed. I then looked at the fixtures and thought I could be a tough ask. Now after the Sheffield United game it looks a lot more realistic as I wasn't expecting any points from that game. We just need to consolidate those 3 points with wins against bottom half teams in Stoke and Reading. Win those two games and I think we really are cooking on gas. I'd say we would need 3 wins following that and it more than doable with games against Hull and Huddersfield in there.

    Stoke (A) = W

    Reading (H) = W

    Birmingham (A) = W

    Norwich (H) = L

    Huddersfield (A) = W

    Hull (H) = W

    Coventry (H) = D

    Preston (A) = D

    Dingles (H) = L

    Luton (H) = W

    Millwall (A) = D

    No.

Reading play Hull on the same weekend we're scheduled to play Burnley. Why would all parties agree to move that so Reading can travel to Ewood instead?!

Ahh yeah I forgot to check if Reading was playing already or not. Got ahead of myself.

  7. One thing that got me thinking. If Burnley but not Rovers progressed to the next round of the FA Cup, and the game between between the two sides got postponed, would it be a possibility to move the Reading mid-week fixture to the weekend? Would much rather a home game on a Saturday 3:00 instead of a Wednesday 8:00 for example.

The joke was Rotherham’s time wasting. To be honest he could have added 15 minutes and wouldn’t have been generous . I notice you don’t mention WBA scoring in the 9th minutes of time added on at the end of our game against them 🤷‍♂️.

Yeah I heard about the time wasting but that happens with all teams with a lead doesn't it? I actually liked the idea of what they did at the WC with the added time. I don't think they should have been implementing that into a game part way into a season though. It may be a common occurrence next season which I am OK with but part way through a season would be inconsistent with the already completed games. I wasn't there so maybe my opinion on this isn't valid but I just thought I'd make the point about the deep stoppage time goals.

I haven't noticed WBA scoring late on in games. Have they done it in many games this season?

Do we really expect a Director of Football to be learning from his mistakes as seemingly basic as this? Is he an intern? An apprentice? Or a Director of Football being paid a salary most of us could only dream of?

We seem to live in an era where a hollow taking of responsibility, usually in the form of a speech about "the buck stops with me", allows them to survive their own incompetence or even dishonesty. There is usually little to nothing to ever justify their survival thereafter.

On that basis, did Broughton not say that the communication aspect of the deadline day saga should have been handled better? So, why has there yet again been no update from the club, even to just say "we are still waiting for a decision"? Believe it or not, I'm actually not that bothered about communication because I find it all bullsh*t and I'm only bothered about actions, but if Broughton is making his "communication should be better" bed, then he's certainly not lying in it.

Just get shut of him and appoint somebody competent at the job... Umm, well that's what a normal club would do, at least.

I understand all the points you made. I'd say your well within your rights to say what you have said. I still stand by my viewpoint though. Like the point I made earlier, if nothing is learned from this and we are in the same position at the end of the next window, my viewpoint will have changed.

Your last sentence was a very good point I must admit. We are for sure not a normal club.

    His mistake?

Ultimately, I take the likenesses that it wasn't necessarily his mistake. He is just showing leadership of his team for coming out and taking responsibility to the public. How it is handled internally may be a different matter and a mistake of his may be trusting someone incompetent or untrustworthy?

  11. I understand the standpoint of wanting GB to resign. However, after a long period of time of finger pointing within the club, I am glad that we finally have someone who is willing to take responsibility. I would much rather he own his mistakes as that to me shows that he willing to learn from them and improve. If this monumental F**k up happens again, then that is where I will have lost confidence in GB and expect a resignation.

I feel old and if I had to drink baileys it would be from a shoe in the hope it improved the taste 😂

ps I don’t do water colours but I have been to a club we’re people wee on each other 😂

( if you haven’t seen the mighty boost non of that will make sense, I haven’t just had a mental breakdown 😂)

I got all the references. Although, I must add that I have always preferred The Hitcher. I've dressed up as him at Halloween a couple of times. (Would never put on the tutu for your character though)

It will obviously depend on where you live now or were brought up. I live in Penwortham and have never lived nearer Blackburn than Walton-le-Dale. So obviously I come across North End fans all the time and very few Burnley fans.

To be honest I have never felt the intense rivalry with Burnley fans because of that but largely don't bring that up on here as it clearly matters a lot to many.

Yeah I get that. I was kind of expecting someone to respond with the points that you made tbh. I do find it interesting that there is a small section of Rovers fans that get more invested in the Preston matches. I have been to Penwortham once myself and did notice the density of PNE fans around. Preston did happen to be playing against Liverpool on tv that day so it’s to be expected but yeah I get how that position would allow you to be more invested in the Preston derby.
