I think he would have to be played centrally to get the best out of him, especially with the step up to championship football. If we are looking for wingers I'd personally like someone who out and out plays out there rather than someone who "can play" there especially seen as our budget won't be massive this summer. That lad from Scunthorpe looks decent, if Rotherham don't go up I'd be all over Jon Taylor. Similar style of player to Chapman.

If your going to give them a several year contract can they play premiership football or at least good enough to play premiership football.

Sam allardyce is statistically England's finest manager if you look at a certain way. Sterling is not a good striker. Is that so hard for you people to understand? That was the premise of JAL's message when he said Kane should be a super sub and suggested Sterling should start up front ahead of him.

I don't buy the Sterling hype, or Delli Alli. On their day they are great, but they can also flatter to decive. Especially when they play for England.

Have to admit before a ball is kicked that what Southgate has planned is totally not what I would have planned. Over to him to pull it off and I'll say wow never would have thought of that.

    Come on England !

His team can't do anything in the Prem yet he's scored 25+ goals for the last what, 3 years for them? The only striker we have who even comes close to Kane is Vardy. Would love to see both start but as an impact sub Vardy is a good option. You talk some shite you mate. Big wind up merchant and I bite everytime!

    It's how id manage it.

None of our players are the 'bees knees' but who would you start ahead of Kane up top?

    Sterling.

Don't ask me for an opinion if you think I talk shyte.

What a top bloke. He says the right things and on the pitch he has got it right so far.

Genuienly excited to see who we sign and how the team shapes up this summer.

Imo without any recruits our squad would finish 15th or higher, so with some decent signings and a little luck, top 10 is doable.

Top 10 is doable ? Wow ..absolutely Wow ....a chumpchip top ten... from Imy.

You Venky bastards get out of our club !

Sounds to me like they’ve offered him exactly what he wanted. That they may even have intimated the possibility of heavier investment which he declined in favour of more organic growth.

Mercer and Jal have to be on the wind up. After the season we’ve just had and the positive vibe around the club I genuinely don’t know where they find this constant pessimism. There’s nothing reasonable or logical about the negativity imo.

    Now i I can relax....

He mentions 'substantial enough for quality buys' even if kept within the club's wage structure.

Also got a feeling Arma will be a loan again  rather than a buy. Hunch.

What's the point of a wage structure when you employ the likes of Samuel for instance.

    Bingo!

Sadly, I don't think we've too many to hang on to - after Charlie, Lenihan and Dack, you are left scratching your head.

If I was Mowbray's agent, unless he was going to get significant backing from Venky's, I would be advising him to move on whilst his stock is still pretty high.

With a couple of frees and a couple of loans, think it's going to be one helluva an upward battle (ala Bolton).  And therein lies a problem, do our 'big' three fancy staying around for that !?!?

It looks like Mowbray is being paid to bring through the agents clients young players so regardless of the results progressing ones clients should see Tony comfortable one would imagine. ?

    Good call.

The learning for Lenihan would be incredible (even though we class him as a 'youngster' at 24!) and would free up Charlie for the holding midfield role bringing class, know how and stability.

Lenihan needs to improve vastly on his thirty, forty, fifty yard forward balls. Then he will look a more accomplished player just hope he's not on the piss this summer instead.

    From the article

Having won promotion back to the Championship at the first attempt, Mowbray says those players will get a fair crack of the whip next season, despite eyeing new faces over the course of the season.

But those arrivals won’t be coming to Ewood Park on large salaries, with the boss keen to maintain the positive team spirit within the dressing room which served them well in 2017/18.

Taking a long-term view on the situation, Mowbray added: “This group of players deserve respect as well, I don’t think it’s right to go out there and bring in superstar footballers on treble the money the players we’ve got are on.

“That would be the wrong thing to do.

“We need to build it and if we can be successful next year then we can reward the current crop of players who would be doing well if we’re successful to try and build it bit by bit if we can.”

    If ?

    If we can?

So there's no money then .

    Venkys out !

There's no point to miss JAL, you simply don't rate players under the age of 23 who appear for Rovers.

Bit unfair Mike E don't rate not hate and that's not all of them just a few that seem to get more of a mention over others.

Kept out of the Travis debate think he could well be the next one to step up though that poor challenge at Portsmouth disturbs me for some reason snd I dont know why.

Really really enjoyed watching David Raya in goal over those last few games.

It's not all negative! But the point was why are Burnley signing better players than us don't care what league we are in it hurts.

It’d a fact of life that however outstanding a bunch of youngsters look, only 2 or 3 at best make it thru at the parent club. Instead of writing your virulent and unsubstantiated bile about out kids on here why not get to Leyland or Ewood an odd time to watch them or better still, don’t and also don’t come on here slagging them off. You might even feel like a better person by not doing, it must be some life you lead when you derive pleasure from lambasting teenagers and lads barely out of their teens.

You've missed the point meadows and gone all emotional .

Trippier, Ings and Mee were all signed for fees as oven-ready Championship Players too so hardly comparable to our crop of kids and players rejected by other teams’ academies.

Exactly meadows. Trippier and Mings now playing for top six premier league club's whilst our rag tag bunch of reclaimees from the Lower leagues with a slim to slimmer chance of making it to a top six club.

Is Nuttall that good though?I'm asking your opinion as iv not seen enough of him to make a judgement.

In the few games I seen for the senior team with him involved I wasn't that impressed but not really fair for me to judge him on that.

Has he looked like someone who deserves to be involved with the seniors from the u23 games you attended?

Nuttall's not been very good except at the graveyard development group games playing against no hopers of other professional club's.

Err, because Burnley are in the Premier League and we've just escaped league one?

Burnley also gave young players chances when they were in the championship(Trippier, Ings, Mee), and reaped the rewards of persisting with them during their indifferent early form. You might want to take note of that the next time you slag off nyambe , samuel and our academy prospects.

Those Burnley players youre quoting are better than ours, what I'm asking is why aren't Rovers players better than the Burnley standard. I'll draw a line under Nyambe for now big season next season for him do we agree I've made my thoughts known and that's that.

As for the academy prospects most aren't getting in the first team and they're now in their twenties if youre good enough your old enough. Did you see some of these lads at home to Bury in the Checkatrade cup they were poor very poor and where are Bury now.

    As for Dominic Samuel well......?

Rovers not finding international players? Is this a joke? Last season we had 3 playing regularly for their national team and we were in the third division!!

Outside the big time, it’s always going to be difficult to get these players...

Our recruitment should be far better than Burnleys that what I'm implying..... it isn't !

    Where's the Venkys investment ?

I guess that’s the beauty of a forum. I read that article, quite interested as it’s the first interview after the meeting with the Rao’s, and an “optimistic” TM mentions adding quality and the top half as a target.

    You know that's bollocks !
