Its not about carrying negativity though. The point is I dont think its a realistic expectation to totally wipe clean and forget any opinion we hold about the manager. Doesnt mean it seaps into booing him and chanting him out or anything silly.

You could say the same about players, we have opinions on players. You dont go into a new season without an opinion on players good or bad because its a new season thus a clean slate.

Because I know where this goes. We've already had it this season with "Stokegate",who cares who got the 3 points?

Then we had where's the next win coming from? He won 2,then it's what about home wins?

I've never cared how we stay up as long as we do. I'll give him a clean slate from next season.

My point is more that I dont really understand how you are able to totally withhold any judgement until next season, its not a point about his ability/inability.

You have just mentioned areas of doubt so you have already yourself started to make judgements about him as the games tick by, which is natural. So even if its subconscious, you will be carrying over an opinion so it wont be a clean slate.

It woudnt make me feel better at all.

There is no if he stays, they wont pay him up even if we went down. What would be a good finish next season? Impossible to say, assuming we stay up we have to see what happens in the summer. If Szmodics goes and the owners continue to slash budgets etc, then I think we will likely go down next season.

Either way, my personal opinion of Eustace so far even allowing for the obvious difficulties is certainly more negative than positive, naturally. I dont have confidence in him as it stands to get us moving in the right direction, however he is small fry compared to the main issue which is always Venkys. I will go into next season with an opinion on Eustace and major doubts but not ones that are impossible to turn around.

I just don't  see the point in carrying negativity over into next season, given the difficult circumstances in which he took over this season.

If the same failings resurface and results don't improve , then obviously keeping him on would be the wrong choice.

Out of interest, do you have any doubts or concerns about Eustace and his capability to be our manager?

You always mention about a clean slate. But if you have concerns they might resurface should we start next season poorly in a way say a new manager with an actual clean slate couldnt.

There are always doubts ,the lack of goals scored and chances created is obviously a major one.

It isn't blind faith, if he went tomorrow it wouldn't bother me one bit, but I'd be prepared to see how he goes on from a level start next season. He's had a good look at the squad and should be in a good position to assess what he feels is needed.

If it makes you feel better, you can keep quoting this season's record up to Christmas,I'm sure you would, but I'd be happy to park this season.

If he does stay, what do you feel would be a good finish?

I think both were a lot more complicated that that! Mowbray had spells where he was loved but he was fortunate the covid season was behind closed doors. Wasn't there a poll on here (highly unrepresentative, granted) around then that showed about 99% wanted him gone? I never got the sense that match going fans were anything other than very supportive of JDT either, although to be fair there were plenty that were never really convinced about playing out from the back.

On Eustace, I agree that there definitely seem to be some grumblings on the last few home games' evidence. Fair or not, it's probably to be expected when you're not winning. I'm a season ticket holder who does a few aways, and I've not seen us win since November, so nobody's going to be happy in those circumstances.

I think he'll get a clean(ish) slate from a lot of fans so long as we stay up. Everyone can see that the squad has issues and he came into a pretty grim situation, so whilst this hasn't exactly been a Hughes/Big Sam-esque rescue, if we can stumble over the line he can be judged a bit more fairly next season.

That is exactly where I am, the job has always been staying up. If we do, this period should be of benefit to Eustace as to what is and isn't needed going forward.

I don't really see the point in getting rid of him, only to take another off the conveyor when he has already assessed the situation.

He made the right choice to come, absolutely.

But he then made the wrong choice in heading it to Hyam (instead of getting it as far away as possible).
More importantly, he stops then saunters back to his goal, rather than sprinting back to his line - as you'd expect in that situation.

He definitely played his part in the first goal.
The 3rd is just bizarre how we didn't stop the ball from going over the line.
The very worst case is an indirect free kick, which they're never scoring from.

It was going out if Hyam left it

The problem with this is cannibalising your full season ticket sales. Make it too attractive a prospect and people who would have bought a ST buy this instead, and you could actually end up with less income. I accept it isn't just about how much the club brings in but it also can't be ignored. It's a fine balancing act.

    I can see your point.

Do you not think though, that we're reaching a stage where there's a hardcore of season ticket holders who will renew no matter what?

I'm  in that category, I've certainly never been against the club reducing ticket prices to try to maximise sales.

As well as the story there are some good ideas and similar points of view in the comments to this as there is on here.

I really hope Waggot has got the general mood of supporters leading into him releasing the prices as will go down like a lead balloon unless its a massive reduction and promises of investment in the match day experience.

Reading the lad's comment who is working 2 jobs. He struggles to get to games which have been moved for tv, because of shift work.

Don't know if it's been suggested, it should be easy to introduce a flexi half season ticket. Maybe a  12 game ticket which can be used for any 12 games,so a half season ticket which can be spread over the full season.

The right choice would have been Pears heading it out of touch and not playing a header to a player facing him and at an awkward height.

It's just a lack of awareness from Hyam. Should have been safety first knowing his keeper was out.

Having said that, the finish was outstanding.

It's not even arguable - he cost us two goals on Sunday.

I watched the first goal back and paused it just as Pears headed it, have a look.

If he doesn’t come out, their player is clear down the left channel with all the defence gone missing. He made exactly the right choice, it's Hyam who cocks up by not clearing his lines.

I expect Leicester and Coventry to win their home midweek games.

Coventry will come to Ewood still in the playoffs mix and Leicester could be putting the icing on a title win at home.

I too expect no further points, hope 49 are enough and trust in the inadequacy of others.

    Not pessimistic, just realistic.

    If I'm wrong I can be 😊

Edit: the Leeds of last night would have torn us a new one.

They probably would have done , but thankfully we didn't play like Boro did we?

And a goal disallowed for offside too (their fans ran on the pitch). Wonderful stuff.

I had them down as taking all 3 there so that's about as good a result as we could have expected.

Anyone who was taking a point against Wednesday this morning, is now snatching your hand off.

You speak as if asking for a home win is me being needlessly pedantic.

Any win will do. We are playing 2nd bottom at home, the important thing is to win a very winnable game and seal survival. But its Eustace's 7th go at winning at Ewood, forget the must not lose stuff, lets actually win a game at home.

We all want a home win obviously, a win on Sunday would make it 3 in 5 and we'd be starting to hit some really good form.

It's just that it's never been specified before as being a "monkey on his back". I didn't realise it was a thing until now.

  13. 3 hours ago, roversfan99 said:

Absolutely, but even from that perspective. Win and we are 100% safe. Home to 2nd bottom, should be a game we target all 3 points and then get it over and done with.

I know he has won away, but he has yet to win at home, including some games we should be targetting wins in, lets get that monkey off his back on Sunday, seal survival and go from there.

I thought it was just wins he needed, I didn't realise they were now being categorised, when did that happen?

Just for the record, will 1-0 do?

I do get why its a must not lose, but bigger picture, say we draw, probably seals safety, but that would still leave Eustace yet to win at home having played Sheff Wednesday, Plymouth and Millwall. It would be pretty depressing and wouldn't bode well for next season.

Talk of filling the side with as many big players as possible to stop them. We are playing at home to second bottom, a draw and we are still catchable, a win and we are safe. Anything but a win is a huge let down IMO. A draw helps us limp over the line but lets just impose ourselves on them, win a game that we should expect to win and start to plan for next season.

Well, he's won 2 away matches, that box has been ticked.

We could do with a win at home on Sunday, but that would only leave the Coventry game to get a home win at 3 o'clock on a Saturday.

Agreed it was a magnificent performance, BUT we were very lucky with near misses and balls flying across the area. Their poor finishing also helped. After the season we have had with bad luck and very dodgy officials, we more than deserved the amount of luck we had. As you say as long as we don’t lose to Sheffield Wed we should be safe. I also think we should get something from the remaining two games as well, as long as we don’t let our standards drop as we did against Bristol city.

I actually thought we had the best chances, besides the goal, there was the Szmodics cross which I still can't believe didn't go in, and the Costello shot which was so close.

Szmodics also forced the best save of the first half. Chances wise, they had the quantity but I'd say we had the quality.

Still giving Eustace the benefit of the doubt but the doubts are a bit less.

That performance at Leeds needed the players to perform supremely professionally after the collection of horror errors at Bristol but it also needed excellent coaching.

The travel time and psychological support needed post Bristol would have meant the coaching time would have been very limited. So that organisation came from work done before this week.

It is also clear Eustace has a plan B with both a fully functioning 4 at the back and 3/5 at the back.

The last 6 matches looked, on paper, as tough as it gets, many were asking where our next point was coming from.

The Bristol game has taken the gloss off a pretty decent run of form, considering our position and who we've played.
