Agreed it was a magnificent performance, BUT we were very lucky with near misses and balls flying across the area. Their poor finishing also helped. After the season we have had with bad luck and very dodgy officials, we more than deserved the amount of luck we had. As you say as long as we don’t lose to Sheffield Wed we should be safe. I also think we should get something from the remaining two games as well, as long as we don’t let our standards drop as we did against Bristol city.

I actually thought we had the best chances, besides the goal, there was the Szmodics cross which I still can't believe didn't go in, and the Costello shot which was so close.

Szmodics also forced the best save of the first half. Chances wise, they had the quantity but I'd say we had the quality.

Still giving Eustace the benefit of the doubt but the doubts are a bit less.

That performance at Leeds needed the players to perform supremely professionally after the collection of horror errors at Bristol but it also needed excellent coaching.

The travel time and psychological support needed post Bristol would have meant the coaching time would have been very limited. So that organisation came from work done before this week.

It is also clear Eustace has a plan B with both a fully functioning 4 at the back and 3/5 at the back.

The last 6 matches looked, on paper, as tough as it gets, many were asking where our next point was coming from.

The Bristol game has taken the gloss off a pretty decent run of form, considering our position and who we've played.

I dont really understand this clean slate demand. People cant just discard any opinions held of him already.

There is a lot of manipulating stats going on. Only 4 losses, but only 2 wins, an average of exactly a point a game is the only true gauge really. Also, averaging goals conceded ans taking out the time we conceded loads. Our goals scored under him is poor but you wouldnt take the 5 at Sunderland out.

Ive said before, surviving considering the buffer he came in with is IMO not particularly impressive, you think it is and that is equally valid. But im not going to totally wipe the slate clean. I have concerns about his ability to get us scoring goals and winning enough games. I have also seen signs that he is capable of getting clean sheets and organising the teams. Those opinions both bad and good I won't discard going into next season but obviously they are fluid and can change as time goes on. Its not a fresh start though.

Clean slate, as in level playing field and not starting by having to put fires out with players you've never coached before, i thought that was obvious.

Everything this season has been about staying up, I've been saying for weeks that I don't really care if we draw our way to safety.

If he fails he fails, but to me he's shown enough know how to certainly be given a fresh start from next season, I don't really know why you would Insist on carrying any of this season into next, hopefully it's mission accomplished.

I see your point but I raise your point with your comments in bold.

One out of 14? Come on Neil. We've been in every other game.

It's been dull as dishwater and won't do from the start of a season, but all I'm saying is he's surely deserved a chance with a clean slate, now he knows the squad.

I think he's shown a bit of nous.

Result was great. Let's not get carried away. Eustace record and run of games has been shocking. We shouldn't have been in a situation where we are excited about beating Leeds because it means survival. He's had plenty of games we should have won and he's been shocking and so have the team.. let's not forget

But yeah totally great result today. We are almost safe..need a reshape in the summer though

We've lost 4 in 14,that's far from shocking during a relegation battle, given the hand he was dealt.

Barring the Bristol debacle, since he came we've conceded an average of less than one per game. To turn Rovers defence into such a tight unit, in such a short time, whilst fighting  relegation I reckon shows a fair bit of coaching acumen.

Before these last 6 games, many were asking where our next point was coming from, we're now looking like we're going to stay up.

He definitely deserves to start next season with a clean slate, he's earned it.

And chances coming few and far between, Todays goal was a classic goalscorers goal. He made it look really easy but it was from that.  . Reminded me of the old master -Jimmy Greaves.

Funnily enough, my mate's dad likened him to Jimmy.

He actually reminds me of Bowen at West Ham,  he makes very similar runs and scores similar goals.

We're not good enough, we all know that - we're desperately hoping for the season to end so we can bring in some actually talented attackers. Freak results like this mean that we're going down.

Dolan / Markanday et al out wide every week with Gallagher upfront is criminal. We're missing Hedges ffs. Ryan. Hedges. That should be classified as a war crime.

They were mainstays of Mowbray's squad, a squad which finished 8th and subsequently 7th. The trouble is that my strongest 11 still has 8 players from Mowbray's tenure.

I know there are many reasons/excuses, but the recruitment has been pathetic since Broughton and his extensive new team came on board.

Leicester hardly had a shot on target, all the ball and created virtually nothing and keeper had very little to do. They were shocking and Plymouth did what they needed to, scored a goal and defended manfully.

Leicester's problem is that they were already up, or so they thought. They played like they were already on the beach.

He couldn't say anything last night to make up for the utter embarassment he has a big responsibility for, no.

I doubt he will go into next season with anything other than backing in ground but people judge managers (and players) as they go. Even if we scrape over the line, considering the buffer of points and teams we had when he came in, im not having that he deserves a clean start in terms of judgement, and if people feel that he needs replacing as part of that clean start then fair enough. 1 win in 13 or 14 is shocking no matter how anyone tries to twist it and he has not shown much if anything to suggest hes the man to take us forward.

    No need to twist anything.

  10. Thankfully, last night was out of character with how we've played for the last few weeks.

Repeat last night and it will be a similar result, repeat the game before against Southampton and the nerves at Elland Rd might just start jangling.

Whatever happens, even if we do lose, it can't be a repeat of last night's surrender.

I think regardless of whether it tipped JDT over the edge (and I'll maintain until my dying day that the move was 100% financially motivated and nothing at all to do with football) I am certain that offloading your captain in the first few days of the window to a league rival on loan will have had a serious impact on the dressing room.

Travis might not have been best mates with JDT but he will have been popular with quite a few in the dressing room I'm sure of that, and when such a decision is made people will rightly start asking questions and be miffed.

The financial argument never really added up in my opinion, not when they could supposedly have received £2 million for Gallagher and offloaded the highest wage in the process.

Got told by someone who supposedly knows what happened, there was a blazing row at training, Travis told Tomasson to f off and walked off, and the rest is history.

If we go up or if we go down, the only way to start any sort of fresh will be with a new man in the dug out. But of course it will never be a completely fresh start until the

He may yet go but it's unlikely, but if he doesn't I don't see the point in wanting him out before he's had the chance to really prove himself.

This season has ended up a disaster, if we stay up, I'd be happy to write it off and see how he does with a clean start. I don't see how he can be fairly judged on this season.

Perversely, I think we will stay up and despite the utter shambles that was last night, I have an inkling we might grind out a couple of surprise draws from the remaining fixtures and that might be enough. I feel Huddersfield, Brum and maybe even Plymouth are equally as useless as us and they need a few points to surpass us. I also don’t have an issue with the Eustace’s post-match interview. I thought it was okay. He accepted we were rubbish and apologised but threw nobody under a bus which seems sensible given the critical situation we find ourselves in.

Don't really read them to be honest, not much point whoever is giving them. I don't really see what Eustace could have said last night after that, which wouldn't have been jumped on.

I also think we'll survive, assuming we do, if we can't go into next season with a fresh start,he will be onto a loser from the outset.

It should be viewed as Eustace keeping us up and starting with a clean slate, but I very much doubt it will, unless we have an amazing start.

Yeah I guess from my original post I also wanted to highlight how bad the end was under JDT….yet it’s looking as bad or worse under this fella.
If we needed a change then, there’s an argument to say we need a change now away from Eustace.

All I'd say in his defence is that we all know  he has had to start from ground zero. It's our first hammering in 13 or whatever, so he has somehow managed to make us harder to beat (till tonight 🙄).

He isn't going anywhere anyway , I'm just hoping he can grind out a win against Wednesday to keep us up. Nervous about that already.

When we lose to Leeds it’ll be 10 points from 13 league games under Eustace and 1 win.

JDTs final 13 league games….11 points.

Worth reminding all those with blinkers on raving about how we’ve improved the last few weeks and constantly quoting X points in X games.

Has a manager ever had the opposite of ‘new manager bounce’ to this extreme

That's a fair comparison, if we lose at Leeds. It just goes to show how bad the  shit show he or anyone else would have inherited.

It's the longest relegation run in in history, I just hope that the finish line comes in time to save us.

Brum losing is massive. They have 4 points from their last 10 matches, losing 8 of them, giving us a run for our money.

Our saving grace is that there is still a chunk of teams between us and the relegation places.

Hopefully Bristol City can do similar on Saturday against Huddersfield!

Heads should roll at Rovers tonight, I can’t wait for this season to end now and reassess if I give up in the summer

    Don't give up

  17. 25 minutes ago, NeilInBristol said:

He's not. He fluffed it for us last season in that vital match and we haven't really missed him this season apart from the depth. Problem is who will take him?!

I also hope we sell siggy. We need the cash to spend and it won't come from anywhere else

After the reaction to the Sunderland result, common consensus on here  was that Eustace had our best front 4 out. Got to admit he'd definitely be in my first 11.

I think the reply above to your post meant Gilsenan, Eustace put Hedges back in as soon as he was available.

  18. A draw tonight would mean Wednesday and Hudders would have to take 5 more points than us over their last 4 games. A draw to me looks a better result than it did yesterday morning.

It does look one of our best chances of 3 points though, which would see us virtually safe. On Leeds, the pictures of the crowd said it all, far from being a cauldron, it looked like the nerves were shredded.
