It’s not the model that’s wrong, it’s the modern way of recruitment. It’s like everything at this club, been run by chancers and nob heads so far.

All this talk of the Brentford/Brighton model on this forum but now moaning and think the manager should pick and sanction all deals. The Brighton and Brentford ‘managers’ (first team coaches) have no say on transfers. They don’t have access to the data and insights that the recruitment teams do. We’ve spent all this money on wages for multiple back room recruitment bods and if what unleaded has said is true, who is the only genuine ITKer we have, then it’s pointless. Sack the lot, including Gestede, and let Eustace pick his players like Mowbray did. You can’t have it both ways.

I don’t think he has an aversion. But if he is controlling football transfers, then the back room changes we’ve made are pointless and a waste of money. There’s no need for a director of football for example. He was signed as a head coach, not an old school manager who controls everything about the club. Whether or not you think he should’ve been signed as one of those is a different conversation, but he wasn’t. If your house takes a while to sell you don’t sell it for half its perceived value to you. You wait and sell it when you find a buyer. You CERTAINLY don’t sell it when you’ve no other property lined up to live in. To repeat, we have sold 27 league goals, and have signed nobody since. We will not use the money. And some expect us to be happy with it.

It’s all opinions, I’m not saying you’re wrong. But £9million will be worth fuck all to us if we get relegated. In a business as shockingly run as ours, all decisions should be football based and the best decision for that, was to keep him. Selling the top scorer in the division for £9million just isn’t enough money to be worth it for us in my opinion. No age, experience, nationality hair colour or eye colour factors will change that for me. The facts are he scored 27 league goals last season and has been sold for under what we COULD (should) have pushed for.

No I don’t, the best time was when we had a squad capable of beating the drop without him. It ultimately doesn’t matter what we sell players for does it, we see none of it reinvested. I’d happily have kept Szmodics til the end of his deal, that would’ve been the best deal for the club football wise.

@Emerald Isle Rover out of interest, no wrong answer here, what price would you put on relegation? What will that cost the club over one season, or the following two, three, four seasons it might take after that to get back promoted? That’s effectively what we have sold. As it stands right now, my money is on that we will get relegated. Szmodics for another year, barring injury, would’ve stopped that.
