  1. This came up on the Englandfans website and I thought it was quite interesting.

If you could change one result in Rovers History what would it be. It could be one game that you feel started a bad run or just one game purely on result alone. Legia Warsaw, where we were a matter of minutes away from the last 16 of the champions league, arsenal in the FA Cup semi.... the list goes on.

For me I guess it is the Southampton game at Ewood in the 1998 - 1999 season. We went down to a poor 2-0 defeat, if we'd won that game we would not have been relegated that season and would not thave had two seasons in the First Division.

The game at the Dell in Southampton when Tim Sherwood got sent off for spitting at Francis Benali?? I went to that game!!!

  2. gazsimm dude, you might wanna Edit that last message you left as it will get deleted by the moderators as its a copy off SkySports. If you just delete the info and put a link down then it will prob be ok.

Im not suprised Neil is leaving to be honest, i just wish Sparky had come to his senses and realised that Neil wasnt interested in signing on a new contract as he would be worth more selling him...

I say swap him with Liverpools Warnock, however apparently Aston Villa are ahead of Pool in the race to sign Neil at the moment...? Id love to see a swap for Gary Cahill, as from what i have heard he is a very talented youngster!!

  3. Ciao all Rovers fans,

Ciao Italia dude, welcome to the site.

No worries about your English, at least your trying.

Its good to know that we (rovers) are loved Internationally :D

Roma and AC Milan are my favourate teams in Italy, what is yours?

    Hope all is well

    :rover:

  4. So Racing Santanderwant to partner him with Zigic. Remember him?

If Okkas doesn't work out, perhaps a move for Freddy Eastwood or Billy Sharp would be a good move. We could offer to part-exchange McEverley/Matteo/Derbyshire or even Gallagher.

Who's Billy Sharp?? I still think its ironic to say our youngsters at the club arent allowed there chance and they are untried at prem level and then we sign a whole bunch of players who are untried at prem level.

I still think trying to sign this Okkas player is a mistake as was the signing of Roberts (too much money)...

Agree with you though, Eastwood could be part exchanged as Southend seem to have real problems with there defence atm, bye bye Todd, Matteo, McEveley in a part exchange with maybe either Derbyshire or Gally on LOAN (ONLY) with them.

Or we could even break the bank and sign Long, Nugent, or some of the other younger more local players mentioned... The truth is we need some youth/speed in our squad as we seem to be going through the recruiting stage Bolton went through last season, signing older players...

  5. I'm not worried - no need imo - but it would be nice to see a few goals from our strikers...........

Agreed, i think its time that we maybe let Nonda go or at least have a spell on the bench and then let either Gally partner Benni, slightly behind him filling that feeder gap inbetween midfield and the forwards or even played Benni slightly behind Jeffers with Benni playing in the slightly off striker/strikers role he fed off so easily at Porto with Jeffers putting away the close rangers in the position he prefers.

I still think we should let Nonda go and give Jeffers, Gally or Derbyshire a go though.

Maybe even sign a younger pacey striker from Ireland. England, Wales (our area of the world). I said it on the other thread, either of Doyle or Long from Reading would be perfect signings in my opinion...

  6. We desperatly need more "box to box" players. Right now, the two strikers are more often than not isolated up front so that when MGP actually does gets past his man and swings it in there, it's all empty. Likewise with Bentley, but he tends to have MGP to aim at too.

I have to agree with you Shevchenko, i think we should be looking for a young central attacking midfielder who can go up there with Gamst and Bentley and feed the front 2. Tugay and Savage can fight over the holding central defensive position whilst the new guy can fight over the attacking position with Reid...

  7. £4m ish?? I shouldn't think so! Okkas is 29 with just over 6 months on his contract, and Gomaa is 31 and from a crap league. I'd be absolutely astonished and highly critical if the pair of them cost more than £2 million.

Well Gomaa was being quoted as costing 2 - 2.5 million and Okkas will cost somewhere in the region of 1 million. Okkas has 6 months remaining on his contract does he??

Yay!! Id still prefer a younger striker though! :D

  8. I dont think he will be solving any goal scoring problems and in fact I think he isnt an out and out striker.

This is a bit about him on wikipedia:

"The ease with which he misses goal scoring opportunities, however, makes him a scapegoat for the Olympiacos fans when the team isn't performing well and they are becoming increasingly vocal about it."

Is it my imagination or does Sparky have a huge problem when it comes to signing the right kind of strikers for our squad (and then keeping hold of them when there good).

Many might laugh, but i think if were going to sign a striker we should go for someone a little younger then the fellas we have recruited thus far. Someone along the lines of Freddy Eastwiood who looks excellent in a very average Southend team or even splash some cash (the same amount we paid for Roberts) and bring in Dave Nugent. I remember when we were having problems up front a couple of seasons back when our strikers werent performing so we signed Jon Stead, he was excellent when we signed him and provided us with some gems to remember till he left...

Players who come to mind are, Dave Nugent, Kevin Doyle (who i think would partner Benni perfectly), the very impressive Shane Long or even Freddy Eastwood...

I do think signing someone like Yannis Okkas is rather silly as it is again signing someone who is hated by his own club for not being able to put away the simplest of goals.

Am i the only person who thinks Franny Jeffers has been very good since coming in for rovers... Ok he has only scored a penalty, but he looks far better then Nonda in my opinion.

I still think our 3 transfer targets should be a left back, central midfielder and a young striker.

Again in my opinion, sparky should send Nonda back to Roma from his loan as he hasnt shown any reason to keep hold of him, apart from his quick throw in assist during his 1st game (i think).

I dont understand why people are calling out for a new left midfielder as i agree with most people on here. Instead of Sparky using Peter as a 89th minute sub, he should put some faith into him and play him whilst Gamst recovers from his dodgy rib and comes back to full match fitness and quality.

When Peter comes on he looks very good and has shown more of a reason to be played in the little time he's been given then Gamst in all the games this season...

I think if Peter is given a chance, a good feeder central midfielder is purchased and Bentley regains his form and we sign a new young striker such as the ones i have listed we will get back to our old scorring ways.

I do think that if Sparky splashes 4 ish million as is being talked about on Yannis Okkas and Gomaa we will seriously be in trouble...

Heck even investing in 23 year old striker Amr Zaki would be good, and certainly a much better choice than Yannis Okkas...!

    :brfc:

  9. Interesting how if it happens to Rovers its ok, but if it happens because of Rovers its cheating...

Also interesting how you had to go back a year to find something bad about rovers, and yet something like this happens every game against Rovers and its perfectly ok. Were not a cheating team, and its been over a year since something rovers did something wrong like this. Anyway, i still think it was a foul on pederson anyway, agree with the guy before. It would have been or should have been a penalty if pederson didnt put it in...

  10. I think if this match has taught us anything, it is that when we play other teams, the opposition always get the benefit of the doubt when it comes to fouls on them which might or might not be freekicks, penalties or bookings/sendings off's. Granted Ghaly's elbow should have been a yellow card as should Tugay's foul if it was a penalty which i still think it isnt. However Mido should have been sent off earlier in the match for a horrible 2 footed lunge. Also it was a penalty and i think that if it isnt then the other penalties of the same sort which should have been given to us throughout the season should be looked at again.

It is starting to look like our season is going to get ruined by very poor refereeing... oh well :tu:

Also Zakora's going over injured when Peter was off down the pitch and the referee stopping play when it was obvious Zakora was acting injured on purpose was disgraceful. Anyone see the smile as his physio helped him off the pitch. What a CHEAT!!

  11. Just watched it again in slow motion. No way was it a penalty against Tugay let alone a red card. Tugay's foot was underneath his bum. After going over like he did what did the ref want Tugay to do, snap his leg off and throw it round his shoulder.

Ghally basically shoved his foot up Tugays ass to garentee a penalty was given.

The handball against Mido was DEFINATELY a penalty 100% so...!

Ghally then violently smashes his elbow into Gray's face and Jol has the cheek to say that Ghally's not got a agressive bone in his body... Ask Tugay that is what i say! As Ghally's boot is probably still stuck under Tugays ass!!

And the final nail in the stupidity which was called a match today was the ref giving a pathetic Jol a red card and sending him to the stands only for Jol to be given a reprieve by the football league.

    TUGAYS GOAL THOUGH!! WOW!!

EDIT: Oh and has anyone seen how bias the SkySports News Team are!? Check out the commentary. I couldnt hear it in the pub!!

  12. Just a couple of views on the game.

First if Tugay (superb 30 yarder fron the dude again!), however if he is to be sent off and a penalty given to Spurs for what supposedly happened then Mido should have been dismissed and Rovers be given a penalty for a woefully obvious handball in the area. I mean for gods sakes, am i the only person who thought it should have been a foul ON tuggs??

Grey had a excellent game, yes its true and i just wish he could play like that every other game. Henchoz looked good as well as Ooijer, although Henchoz looked better then Ooijer in this particular match

Our front line looked worrying again granted they were only together for 60 or so minutes Benni did try and was the better out the front two in the 60 mins, but it didnt seem like they were able to link up with our midfield (pace problem) again. One thing i would say about Nonda coming off, why not put on Gally who should have been on the bench and switch gally to right wing and Bentley center. Mokoena keeps looking poor and he always slows down the game!

Gamst had a better match then hi other performances during the season, but Bentley was not up to past performances...

Savage looked like he had a barrel load of energy for the match. Peter and Jeffers just didnt have any time to effect the course of the match and in matches such as this when were a man down i really think they should be used earlier due to players getting tired quicker due to making up for the missing man.

Overall, we were ok. Harshly delt with by the assistants/Spurs 12, 13th and 14th players. I do take allot of courage by the fact we looked fairly solid without Neil (who will be gone in january) and with only 10 men but i am of course disapointed that on the rare opportunity i get to see Rovers on the big screen we were again harshly done by at home AGAIN by the referies...

  13. This had me grinding my teeth...

    Manchester United fans review:

With a goal finally on the scoreboard United simply had to play out time but it was not without scares. Ex-Porto Cheater Benni McCarthy made EVDS work after a Bentley's cross. Then McCarthy made the big Dutchman work as Tugay's free-kick landed near giving the African whose shot was saved.
