  1. Good effort, these analyses are appreciated by those who can't get to the games.
  2. Exactly. I think he's a decent midfielder, but would need 15 games there to do himself justice.
  3. Suppose that goes both ways. I agree you can't write anyone off after one game (esp if you haven't seen the game!). However, as I have repeated endlessly, these match threads are for us to comment on and discuss this particular 90 minutes. And, just as Gally didn't control the ball, or beat anyone, or score with his one siimple chance, Walton was shaky, and some of his decision making was rash and dangerous. That doesn't mean he won't go on to be England's No 1, it's just a review if his performance today. More of a concern: Mowbray's decision to start Downing on the right, and his decision to sabotage our only free-flowing, sweet passing, neat interplaying, attacking, aggressive, skilful, slick passage of play by changing personnel and formation, was nothing short of tactically inept. It was as if he had decided to change it (with the double substutution) at a certain minute regardless of how the game was going. Genuinely baffling. At least to me and one or two others. Also, we continue to recruit relatively well, and although Tony is an improvement on G Bowyer, we still aren't getting the best out of our lesser players, which is essential to ensure season on season progress. This again partly comes down to questionable tactical line-ups, and substitutions. We often get away with it at home, but away we are repeatedly exposed, and Tony seems in total denial about the underlying reasons for this. Ok, that's all off my chest, I live in hope he sees what we saw today and plays Downing on the left, Nyambe at right back, Rothwell instead of Armstrong, etc. Fingers crossed, keeping the faith, etc, now back to the cricket season, which was rudely interrupted by the frustrating footy.... COYB!!!!!
  4. Whether we'll do well this season is an impossible question but what isn't in doubt is our inability to strengthen our undoubtedly leaky defence. My main concern today was the weirdly timed double substitution when we were totally on top. Moving Downing to the left had transformed us as an attacking force and we'd had 10+ minutes of wave after wave of attacks and it genuinely felt like a 2nd goal was coming. Making a double substitution seemed guaranteed to interrupt this momentum, and that's exactly what happened. That, for me, is the reason we didn't get at least a point as it allowed Charlton back into the game and gave them their 3 minutes of pressure, from which our League One defence presented them with the winner. I thought Downing was leading and creating plenty when he was removed. When Travis went off, we just reverted to unsuccessful long balls, as Johnson had too much to do on his own in centre midfield. I predict Gallacher is Brereton Mk2., causes problem with his athletic prowess and strength, but still little evidence of footballing ability. I really hope I'm proved wrong on this. 3 main reasons we lost: 1. Mowbray's inability to recognise our defensive frailties 2. The decision to play Downing on the right in the 1st half 3. The badly timed double substitution when we were dominant Where does that point......?
  5. Mowbray has thrown the towel in away from home, and it is reflected in the team's approach and body language when we go 2 nil down. I sincerely wish there was a scrap of evidence to the contrary since January....
  6. All of the above comments have been duplicated during every away game this season. I want Mowbray to stay, but I really think his Managerial approach is based on passion, tenacity, spirit, and tactical knowledge and experience picked up 20 years ago. One or two good signings and impressive, if limited, man management skills just about keep him hanging in there in this solid division. Come on, Bradley!!!!!
  7. That says everything. Unfortunately, Williams, individually, costs us a lot of points. The goal was a good example. Whether it's a concentration thing, or just poor awareness or technique, he can be a liability. I also don't agree that he has played better than Nyambe recently. The only person to blame for our tsunami of away goals conceded, however, is Mowbray. For a capable defender, he has been unable to shore up the poorest away defence in the Division. His decision in January that we were well covered in defence, has resulted in a further deterioration in our away performances. Really seems clueless in this Dept. Still hopeful of sneaking a Hillsborough point tho', we will need 2 goals. COYB.
  8. I agree, but there a quite a few other journalists at pre and post match interviews. My point, really, is that he has been happy to play the same 6 or 7 defenders(?) in various positions/formations all season, and decided that they were doing so well that we didn't require any defensive additions in Jan. It is a major tactical & recruitment failure and has cost us a strong, top ten finish. Yes, I think he's done a good enough job and I want him to stay but we won't be competitive at the right end of the Division, until it's sorted.
  9. As many have been saying for years, Charlie is an effective, classy holding midfielder who will score 12 goals a season. Tony has had the season-long opportunity to plug our leaky defence, and we have got stadily worse. This glaring question is hardly ever put directly to him in pre or post match interviews.
  10. The the whole game changed when Conway was introduced. It brought a 1st half attacking dimesion to our play that has been lacking for months. Mowbray must have been devastated that we didn't have 9 men behind the ball til 65 min. We are an effective attacking unit, stifled for the 1st 70% of every home game. Last night showed, albeit against a poor side, that we can attack as a team in the 1st half, which set up the 2nd half perfectly. We sometimes give relegation threatened teams too much respect for 70 min.
  11. Sure this has been highlighted, but gotta be worth another reminder. This game puts us all on our ass....
  12. There appear to be a lot of provocative wind-ups on here tonight. We might win, we might draw, we might lose by one goal, but there is no likelihood or evidence that we might lose by 2 goals. I can't see where these negative predictions come from. If we show an ounce more quality & composure than Saturday, we will win. I'm as angry and frustrated as anyone by the poor run we are on, and I know it is down to Tony's lack of tactical nous, but we need to get real and be positive. 3 - 1 or 2 - 2. I'll see you all back here at 10.15. Off into the hurricane we go....
  13. I think this comment is realistic, now the dust is settling... This kind of thoughful, thorough review is just what those of us who couldn't het to the game appreciate. Nice one.
  14. Still haven't heard thoughts on why Graham was replaced at same time as Dack. Could that also have been an injury, as I really can't see why he couldn't have lasted til 75 min? There's no logical footballing rationale? Has it been confirmed he is injured?

  16. Only Bristol City hanging onto our coat-tails.... Let's keep the 100% record going on our penultimate ever visit to Griffin Park. COYMB
  17. I thought Sam Gallacher flattered to deceive when he was here. He had fairly barren periods when he really didn't look good enough for the Championship, but he always popped up with a well taken goal just as I was thinking his time was up. Hope he has improved in the last 18 months, I assume he will have done. He's no Reid tho, and that's the level we need to reach and remain in the top 6. Sam isn't sufficiently better than Joe, in my opinion.
  18. Pissed, obviously......and probably JLowe as well. Only way he could swivel that easily. ....now this: "Absolute peach of a strike by Jason Lowe after a corner is knocked into his path is palmed away by Sam Johnstone. Lowe hit it on the swivel. Took some stopping. Bolton denied." Wow. He'll be pivoting next....
  19. Oh, ye of little faith....we might as well enjoy it while we can. ????⚽??????
  20. ....ahhh, the Mike Newell swivel. Happy, happy days.... A player that took us forwards....
  21. From BBC Sport txt commentary: 'Some smart play by Jason Lowe in the build-up, passable impersonation of Andres Iniesta in terms of turning out of danger and launching an attack' .....now who said he wasn't a footballing genius..... (errrm....before some delusional tries to persuade us that he was actually a decent player for us, it's tongue in cheek. The quote is genuine tho'...)
  22. Playing well, as usual at home in League games, we will score if we're patient, on and off the pitch. COYMB!!!!
  23. Is this the Newcastle Replay Thread, or am I blind? Anyway, does anyone know how many tickets we've allegedly sold?
  24. Keep your eye on this table, we are just about to click..... 2019 Championship Table
  25. I'm so so soooo happy for those brilliant, committed, euphoric fans!!!!! Woooo-Hoooooo.....
