Good point. I’ll be honest, I missed that.

So denying Sky coverage, which people have already subscribed to expecting red button coverage, and making it PPV instead?? Nothing to do with getting fans back in the ground then and all about the coin. Fans really are there to be milked.

    Thoughts @Paul Mani?

It’s a business. The club needs to make money and we have very few fans to make money from.

You can’t watch the game on iFollow in UK. Clearly the Rovers twitter account got it wrong.

is that non-negotiable on Dacks side?

Besides I am more worried that we get the same player back after injury. Not renowned for staying in the best of shape either, so a year off and the temptations that come with it.

For the purposes of this discussion, Dack is an unmitigated success having been bought for a relatively low fee and now worth considerably more. Obviously the injury may dictate how the future lies but I won’t lay that at Mowbray’s door.

  3. Isn’t the issue with analysing the signings is the size of the fee and therefore risk vs reward.

I’d say that signing Dack easily makes up for a number of cheap misses eg Gladwin, Samuel, Lyons, Whittingham and Hart. He’s found us a £15m+ asset for £750k.

Smallwood as well. Cost very little but pivotal in our L1 campaign. Surely that’s justified the fee..?

Johnson has been a reasonable back up CM this season so I wouldn’t class him as a miss.

    Downing has been a revelation.

The obvious failures are Brereton and Gallagher. Not simply because they’ve played poorly but because of the fees involved.

Brereton is looking like being one of, if not the, worst piece of transfer business we have ever done. We can not afford to gamble £5m plus on a youth product with no pedigree. He will forever be a black stain on Tony’s tenure here.

Like they invested in Jan in the fight against relegation..... or a play off push last season ???

Come off it we've heard it all before.

Weren’t we under a transfer embargo during our relegation season? Or was that the season before?

Look at the expenditure since we got back into the Champ. They’ve sanctioned two £5m+ signings. They deserve criticism for many reasons but they can’t be faulted for backing Mowbray over the last two seasons.

I'm absolutely fuming we're saying we have no money and don't want to repeat last season.

He gave lucrative contract extensions to players that weren't championship quality, and now wasting the wage bill.

Bought 2 players that have so far been quite frankly awful.

How can we expect to progress with awful awful decision making by our manager / directors (who approve the deals)?

Brereton and Gallagher have been terrible acquisitions considering the outlay but I wouldn’t say that our transfers have been awful.

Downing, Tosin, Holtby, Cunningham and Johnson were all decent signings last summer.

In the main, we can find decent players, that’s not the problem. I’d say that finding Dack easily makes up for the likes of Whittingham, Gladwin etc.

The biggest criticism is that the only transfers we’ve spent big money on have been failures.

Agree it is harsh coming off the Wigan game, fair enough.

However, surely we are all used to Mowbray by now, it's a valid concern and criticism because we all know what he is like, it was so novel to have an unchanged side for 5 games or whatever it was, Dack being out is the perfect excuse for meddling Mowbray to start overthinking things again.

I hope he proves me wrong, buy I honestly think we could be looking at 8 games without a win now.

Dack being out means he HAS to meddle. Something has to change as Dack has been first choice for the last 3 years. Our team is built around Dack.

I read someone criticising Mowbray for simply listing the players who could play in the no10 role.

Might be worth waiting to see what side Mowbray picks and the subsequent results. I prefer Holtby to Buckley right now.

So the weekend games mean in reality we are simply playing catch up to keep on the tails of the play-off places on tomorrow evening.

Shame we can’t get into the top 6 tomorrow but we’d only be outside on goal difference with a win so it would be another point closer.
The teams above us aren’t going to drop many points. It will be a battle from here until May.

    That as well.

Isn’t it funny though, when we win there are people who enjoy baiting “the doubters” more than the results.

Yet they don’t acknowledge that we are winning because of the changes made on the field.

I wouldn’t like to see yesterday’s side as the consistent starting XI. I’d still say it was our worst this season. But for Lady Luck, which you get when you are in form, we could have been 3-1 down in the first half. But it doesn’t matter because Mowbray got it right yesterday and my fears were allayed.

So you and the lickers, sorry likers, enjoy yourselves. It’s certainly easier to take when we are winning football matches.

I genuinely hope you are still crowing and baiting come May because then it will mean something. :tu:

    Crowing and baiting?

It was just a joke. Not trying to point score. I wanted Mowbray gone 3 weeks ago. I don’t think anyone thought he could turn it around.

Watched some of the full highlights this morning. We looked so assured in possession. Can’t remember us ever looking so comfortable holding on to a lead in the last 10 mins.

You make it sound like they will never play again.

Remember it's Mowbray, they will all probably get a start before we go to Huddersfield on the 29th.

As for the next game, I'd bring in Dack for Brereton & Armstrong for Bennett and let the other 9 have another crack at it.

I don’t think you can leave out Evans or Downing either. We have a busy schedule over Christmas so they will all play their part. The fact that we have 17/18 players in contention for a start says it all. Our squad depth is seriously impressive.

This must be the best run of form we’ve been in since relegation from the Prem. 6 wins in 8 is phenomenal. I genuinely didn’t think we had it in us.

I hope for just one change, Holtby for Dack.

Id potentially accept a point but we shouldnt go there with fear. A loss would in no way be understandable or acceptable, it would be dissapointing. I feel like at this stage we have somewhat of an inferiority complex about playing the teams towards the top of this league, and also play with very little expectation away from home. Both mindsets need to be eradicated if we are to seriously challenge where Mowbray says he wants to.

This is a tough away game. It’s not a free hit and if we’re to be serious contenders then we need to be going to places like this and picking up something.

However, a defeat wouldn’t be a disaster, provided that it was tight. I’m not concerned about losing tomorrow. I’m concerned about the possibly reaction to a defeat. Can we pick ourselves straight back up and go on another good run.

We beat Brentford at home and they promptly smashed Luton for 7. That’s how decent sides react.

We are going to lose a game or two over the season, there is no shame in that. The issue, is when one defeat sparks a run of terrible form for several weeks. That’s what we need to avoid, more than an odd defeat in 6 games.

It was a 1-1 draw where we played a fair chunk of the game with a man advantage.

I agree with you, it is all about picking up points consistently. If we won thirty plus games 1-0 and stunk the place out I couldn't really care less but apart from the last four games before last night we haven't done that. There will also be other games where we do play well but don't get what we deserve so you have to take your chances where you can. Last night was another two points dropped due to the way the game panned out in my opinion.

A fair chunk..? 10 mins at best, be reasonable.

The game was fairly even although they probably had the better chances.

I was firmly in the Mowbray out camp 3 weeks ago but can’t fault the last 7 games. 5 wins, 1 draw and 1 defeat in 7 is a good run of form by any standards. A draw last night does not chance that. We played ok and got a point out of a tricky away game. If we fail to get into the play offs by 2 points, last night will not be the game I’d look back on with regret.
