I change my statement, souness has to go now, after his performance with Andy Todd and the fact that he cant motivate the players for the biggest game this club has faced in a long long time he must be this 'big boy' he talks himself up to be and walk.

2 minutes gone and Lucas Neill was turned and tugged at Okocha's shirt who readily fell to the floor and Andy D'Urso pointed to the spot, Djorkaeff stepped up and put the ball just beyond Friedel's grasp. The Aussie then continued having a nightmare at full back and brought Ricardo Gardner down just on the edge of the area and recieved a yellow card for his third foul of the game. Rovers could not string to passes together and were being continually forced back as Bolton pressed and when Djorkaeff sent Davies clear the former Blackburn man fired low and hard past Friedel and sent Bolton into a two nil lead. It could have been more had Friedel and Amoruso been at their best, but Jansen struck the ball from just outside the box on a rare Rovers attack and forced a good save from Jaaskelainen. Half time arrived and Rovers had managed to keep the score at two nil against a barrage of Bolton attacking and Andy D'Urso's -still bitter from previous clashes with Souness and Neill- apparent dislike of all things to do with Souness, Rovers and Neill. In the second half Thompson began on the right and his early cross fell to Jansen who's snapshot found the bottom corner and it was game on. Yorke then raced clear in the 54th minute but was pulled back, the striker chose to remain on his feet and shot only for Jaaskelainen to save. in the 87th minute little over twelve mintues after coming on Steven Reid was dismissed for a challenge that D'Urso used to gain more revenge on Souness and Blackburn, however in the 94th minute de-ja-vous struck and a neat turn and cross from Grabbi found Yorke who headed home at the far post, sending the travelling fans, players and Souness into raptures and left Bolton with only one point and D'Urso unable to spoil the day, final score at the Reebok, Rovers 1 Bolton 1.

Cheeky I think you got the wrong end of the stick, I was merely pointing out the fact that people may sing such songs about him and asking for feedback to see if people would be singing abusive songs towards him, i certainly wont, although i dont agree with everything he has done, he had no real choice but to leave and is still a rover !

Before the game I was apprehensive, despite a woeful away record, Boro are looking a decent side this season, and with a recent win over Manure under their belts, their confidence would have been sky high, however the phone rang at about 12:45, it was Gerald Jackson, I had won 15 quid’s worth of Rovers vouchers in the Radio Rovers competition, it was going to be a good day after all! My mind quickly changed as I struggled to remain awake during yet another dull (I’m being kind) first half home performance, I was beginning to think that maybe this was destined for a late winner from Boro, however being the eternal optimist I decided it was still going to be our day, and with Gillespie on to give us some much needed width and someone to finally exploit the awful Queudrue, things were on the up. Once Flitcroft lunged successfully into his first crunching tackle of the game the troops fired up, with Rovers taking the game to the visitors. It did however take 8 or so minutes of the second half for us to muster our first real chance but Cole's header was weak. 5 minutes later and a Gillespie run and early centre found Cole who somehow flicked the ball over the Boro defence and found Yorke who fired home, 1-0 and Rovers on top. Next came the cruellest moment of the game and possibly the season so far, the impressive McEveley went on a run gave the ball wide to Thompson who layed the ball back on the edge of the box for McEveley to shoot, that he did with a thunderous strike which left the Blackburn End crossbar shaking for minutes, the perfect ending to a perfect performance was that close! In fact the only reward for a magnificent performance was cramp, which eventually forced the youngster to be replaced by Andy Todd. As Rovers fans we will feel that we should have had maximum points from the Christmas period, however 8 points from 12 considering we played Boro, West Ham and Manure at home and Liverpool Away isn't a bad return at all. FRIEDEL (7): Nothing much to do, but you just feel safe in the knowledge he's there if needed. NEILL (7): Best game he's had for a while, and because he didn't have anyone up against him he heaped the pressure on Queudrue. McEVELEY (9): We really do look to have unearthed a real gem, however the cramp shows he may not be quite ready for what some people are calling for off him. TAYLOR (7): Back to his assured self. JOHANSSON (7): Hopefully proved to his critics that he has a big future ahead of him when played in his rightful position. DANNS (6): Struggled to get to grips playing out of position, hopefully will not of dented his confidence. THOMPSON (7): It's not quite coming off for Thommo at the moment but his commitment is still their as always. FLITCROFT (8): Inspired the team to victory as they looked without a leader in the first half. TUGAY (7): Exploited the gaps later on, but still loses possession at a regular rate. MOTM COLE (9): Was run close by McEveley for the man of the match award, however he shaded it for his hard work and never say die attitude. YORKE (8): Is starting to link up with Coley and are looking better and better together, and even when it may not be their day are both giving 110%. SUBS: GILLESPIE (8): Made the telling difference. TODD Did nothing wrong. SUBS NOT USED: OSTENSTAD, DUNN, KELLY.

We came into this game on the back of some indifferent form, with 3 wins, 1 draw and 1 defeat in our last 5 games albeit that two of those victories were against 1st Division Rotherham United and 2nd Division Wigan Athletic. The pre-match hype in the media had been all about Keane’s possible return and of course the re-united Yorke and Cole facing their old teammates, it was the latter that was to have the last laugh however. Rovers – United games always have something special about them, but with ex United players such as Keith Gillespie, John Curtis and obviously Yorke and Cole available for selection, alongside ex-City Garry Flitcroft, all that added to Roy Keane’s return this game was guaranteed to be full of added spice. Rovers made three changes from the side that beat Wigan (to ironically meet United in the Worthington Cup Semi-Finals) Out went Stig-Inge Bjornebye, Keith Gillespie & the suspended David Thompson, replaced by Nils-Eric Johansson, David Dunn & Damien Duff respectively. United were without Juan Sebastian Veron & Beckham, Keane and Blanc were all substitutes. The game itself started with United looking a side full of confidence, as they took immediate control of the game, as Rovers struggled to get to grips with the quality of passing and movement. This culminated with 3 excellent chances for United, which were all spurned as Van Nistlerooy failed to control from a Phil Neville pass, he and Diego Forlan then combined to spectacularly miss a golden chance and Van Nistlerooy once again came into the firing line as he was caught between the Rovers net and an Olé Gunnar Solksjær effort. Rovers had a decent chance of their own sandwiched in between those United efforts as Andrew Cole fired straight at Barthez from a tight angle. Rovers rode the storm however and a mixture of skill and good fortune meant David Dunn could fire a rasping shot at the United goal from the edge of the box, which Barthez tipped over. Dunn then became increasingly prominent as the end of the half came closer and he won a free kick on the edge of the box following a trip from Scholes. Duff took an in swinging free kick which ‘Tiny’ Taylor met at the far post but could only head into the path of Scholes who’s poor clearing header fell to Flitcroft who fired past Barthez into the corner of the net to give Rovers a one-nil advantage at the break. Gillespie however replaced Dunn just before the close with what looked like a reoccurrence of his hamstring injury. Half-Time came and went and Rovers came out in the second half, and began it as the team full of confidence and it was United struggling to cope with Rovers’ passing and commitment. Sir Alex Ferguson became visibly more agitated as Rovers looked by far the better side, and after Duff had sent a ball across the face of the goal, which somehow managed to evade both Cole and Yorke, he sent on Roy Keane, to the delight of the travelling support. Rovers continued to frustrate United by maintaining possession brilliantly, and began to use the ball in a way, which they seemed unable to do in the first 30mins of the match. United began to pile on more pressure though but were unable to cause too many problems to Rovers, with only one notable chance as Van Nistlerooy raced clear of the Rovers’ rearguard, but Friedel stood tall and the Dutch Striker fired high and wide. Fergie then threw on Beckham despite United’s pressure Rovers had the better of the chances, Duff raced clear and beat Neville has he had all the second half but his shot was unable to test Barthez. Blanc was then sent on as United panicked but Rovers had the only other chance, possibly the best of the game but Yorke was denied a personally special goal as his shot flew into row 40+ of the Blackburn End. United were unable to muster anything further and Rovers claimed a famous victory. FRIEDEL (7): Had a relatively quiet afternoon despite United’s pressure. NEILL (8): Coped with the threat of both Giggs and Solksjær as they continually swapped flanks. JOHANSSON (8): Overcame a shaky opening 15minutes to play a steady but important role. MOTM SHORT (10): Alongside Taylor limited United to very few chances even when the pressure was immense. MOTM TAYLOR (10): Did nothing to dispel the theory that he will play for England, in front of the watching nation. DUNN (7): Had little impact until towards the end of the first half, but was replaced due to his niggling injury. DUFF (9): Did not receive much of the ball first half but tore Gary Neville to shreds in the second. FLITCROFT (9): Was magnificent throughout and scored the winner, what more can you ask? TUGAY (9): Continued his recent run of good form with a brilliant display, however Souness must now realise it is no coincidence that both Tugay & Dunny play far better alongside Flitcroft and NOT together. COLE (9): Worked tirelessly throughout, and looked top class, deserved a goal. YORKE (10): Was another who ran himself into the ground and looked class, he too deserved a goal which he should/would have had, had he not been full of the festive mood and presented a Fan in the back rows of the Blackburn End with the match ball.
