  1. FFP rules are relaxed in Smmer, so Venky's can carry on taking the hit for the income deficit, like they have since we got relegated. If they give PL only what he brings in, Including the Rhodes money, that's a sizeable sum and personally I have faith that he will assemble a squad capable of at least the playoffs with it. You can't rule out the fact that Venkys are morons of course, but the one thing they haven't been shy of doing is putting in money (whose it is, is debatable). With the relaxed rules and a top management team for this division, we have to be in with a good shot.

Now we just have to stay in this division!

  2. I bet if you ask any Man Utd fan about Cole they will have nothing but praise. Him / Yorke / Sheringham/Solskjaer were the deadliest group of strikers in Europe at that time. He was every bit a £7m player for us when he signed and twice the player Rhodes will ever be. Dont get me wrong, I loved Rhodes while he was here, he is a great Championship finisher, but he is no world beater. If he was 1, he wouldn't have been with us in the Championship and 2, he would've gone before now and for more than £9m, and not to another Championship team. Cole is the 3rd highest PL goal scorer of all time with over a hundred goals. To even mention Rhodes in the same sentence as Cole is ridiculous, baring in mind Rhodes has 0 appearances in the PL.

  3. We see his performances differently den, and always will. Yes, he has weaknesses (although he's not nearly as bad as the intelligentsia on here make out) but he still did what he was paid to do (sorry - as much as it seems to grate for you, strikers are paid to score goals, and measured by how many).

Unfortunately he was never going to develop further under Bowyer, and prior to that was on his own on that front, given the calibre of manager. He couldn't even get the potential out of Judge, Rochina, or any other attack minded player, and moved Marshall to right back, such was his defensive focus. I firmly believe that with better (or even just attacking) players behind him in midfield, and playing football higher up the pitch, would have got more out of Rhodes. Given that I've stuck my neck out on this one, I'm very interested to see how he does at Boro - just not today. We really should have insisted he didn't play but unfortunately the way we went about that last day, we backed ourselves into a corner and gave any leverage to Middlesbrough.

But aside from loaning Gomez, we did!! The money is now in Venkys bank account.

I'm not sure we did. I think they were signed with the understanding that we were flogging Rhodes to Boro and most of his fee has likely already been spent. They are more than likely set up as loans with a view to be perms in the Summer, so we didn't fall foul of FFP this window if something went wrong and Rhodes didn't get sold. Personally, I think that's why PL had a fit at Rhodes' agent playing silly beggars. Only time will tell, but it fits with the "only loans and freebies" party line changing and suddenly Rhodes is off on a jolly to Boro.
  4. Rhodes has been playing in a team which has never suited his style - certainly not since CKR was here - and that has got worse each season. Yet he continued to score goals. Even this season - his worst since he arrived he has scored half of the team's goals.

We finally have the kinds of players who could help him - certainly with Gomez in midfield - and we go and flog him (without even using the money to bring in permanent reinforcements - a left back and a midfield general, STILL). It's not just a case of replacing Rhodes' goals, we now have to get more points as a team without him than we did with him.

And Jim, oh Jim, the guy who wants to march on the pitch but makes every excuse possible not go first; the guy who questions the supporter credentials of anyone else who won't; the guy who gleefully, in his own sardonic way, creates a relegation thread earlier and earlier every season; the guy who spits personal comments at people like a bitter old man when he doesn't have anything useful to say. Yes, your opinion of my support really means a lot to me.

We couldn't have signed those players that could help him without selling him. It's a catch 22 that means keeping a gash team and one good player, or selling the one good player to try and get a good team. I think we've made the correct choice long term. What if we'd pinned all our hopes on Rhodes for the foreseeable and he suffered a career ending injury? Then what would we have done?

  5. The after the bell stuff at the end of the first looked 6 of one to me. It actually looked like Joshua instigated it, but Whyte did go over the line. I just can't take to Joshua at all, he seems like a smug Prince Naseem type who's too full of himself and believes his own hype. Needs putting on his arse, it'd do him good. Deserved win and excellent finish in the end though.

Professionally, If he can get his feet back on the ground and be less of a smug arse he can go as far as he wants. Can definitely see him being as good as the likes of Lewis was, but needs to be involved in a few wars to see if he has the balls and the chin. Tonight was the first test of that and he had a bit of a wobble, but came through it with a bit of style. Fair play to him. Personally, think he's nowhere near ready for the big boys yet, just hope he doesn't get thrown in with them yet.

  6. Shame for Whyte tonight. Can't take to Joshua at all. Hoping someone wipes that smug look off his face soon. No class at all. You might not like your opponent, but at least show a bit of respect afterwards. Need someone with Whyte's power and a better chin to knock the cocky @#/? on his back.

Eubank Jr. did well, there'll be tougher fights ahead, but he needs to stop the showboating.

Barroso is a bit of a dark horse! Sparked him with a jab! One to keep an eye on.

  7. There seems to be a good few pretty knowledgeable boxing connoisseurs on here. I do love the boxing, but don't get chance to watch half as much I'd like to. Has Eubank Jr's hype died the death now, or is that still bubbling along? I've watched a couple of his fights and he look decent, but it seems to have gone cold. Have I missed something, or has he just not fought in a while? His dad was one of the best boxers I've ever seen. An absolute tit, but a hell of a boxer.

Tyson must be, err, furious after the messing about he got from Haye. He's a bit of a gobshoite, but a decent enough boxer. Heavyweight division doesn't seem to be anywhere as competitive as it has been in the past. I grew up watching Tyson, Lewis, Moorer, Buster Douglas, Holyfield, ect. He's not a patch on any of them, but does deserve a crack at it, even if it's just to shut him up if he gets put on his arse ala Prince Nas. Personally, I don't think he will though. I think he'll do it and keep it for a good while, when he eventually gets his chance.

  8. I'm sick of hearing from you, but here you are. :)

Some parts yes, but this wasn't one of them.

IN THE BOOKS, Jon tries to raise an army of Wildlings & volunteer Crows to attack Winterfell after he receives a threatening letter supposedly written by Ramsay Snow. All hell breaks loose and some of the Night's Watch assassinate Jon for violating his oath to remain neutral.

In the show, they assassinate Jon... 'cause reasons.

What are these "Game of Thrones books", you speak of?

    Touché..

Fair play to anyone that's read them, I've not got around to reading them yet but they do sound better than the series. Might give them a go now that the TV series has caught up.

  9. you put a lot of faith in 2 young lads who have never played in the Championship getting us a win yesterday.

Did you read what Kinder said? He says the youth team doesn't take priority, it's up to Bowyer if he wants them. Bowyer says in the other article O'Sully will get a chance ;-

"So we are excited and looking forward to seeing how he does in the first team."

Not sure anything that's happened so far contradicts this. Anyway lets see who plays tomorrow and at Brum.

Seems appropriate given tonight's TV events..

  10. Watched Edge of Tomorrow the other day. Was really disappointed. Concept was good (a kind of Starship Troopers meets Groundhog Day), but wasn't executed very well. Also reaffirmed to me that Tom Cruise can't act for @#/?.

A switch your brain off 6/10

  11. It's not wearing the roads it's wearing the patience and coming up along the wrong side of you that's the ball ache. Turning left at traffic lights and the bugger sets off before you and you don't know they are there. Particularly if you are driving a van. They seem oblivious to your indicator flashing. Not to mention riding through on red. (Of course you will not be one of the ones who do that. They never are!)

Do you not use your wing mirrors and have a quick look before you turn? If not, that's not the cyclists fault.

Riding through on red really #@$$£@ me off though, I agree!

  12. Episode 1 is terrible. Just terrible. 2 was too much love story nonesense and Anakin whining and not enough Clone Wars. Although the cartoon series' that they did about the Clone Wars were quite good. Episode 3 was ok, but Anakin's fall to the Dark Side was pathetic. It could and really should've been done much much better.

The books are great. I haven't read as many as I should, but they continue the story after the last film. You get to find out about Han / Leia's family and Luke rebuilding the Jedi order, and so on.. Really can't see what they're going to do with the next 3 films at all, unless they make films about a good proportion of the books. But I hope not..

  13. Tyson Fury - great name, but what a bellend. He should just change his name to Tommy Gunn and make the transformation complete.

    On Lennox Lewis though:

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/boxing/article-2451488/Lennox-Lewis-wants-100m-comeback-Klitschko-brothers.html

A 48 year old Lewis against either of the Klitschko brothers? It would have to be a rematch with Vatali surely? There's only 6 years age difference to make up then rather than 10. Wladimir would be too much for him if he came back. Be a shame to watch a true legend like Lewis getting put on his arse like that.
