Would JDT have been my first choice? Of course not. I'd have been (very) happy with Dyche or Farke. But at least if it is JDT I would still regard that as a vast improvement on a "Mowbray Mark 2" appointment like Pardew or Adkins.

And I would be prepared to give JDT a chance to show us what he can do unlike you who seem to be dismissing him out of hand before he even gets here.

Has the recruitment process been a shambles?  Of course it has. But that imo is what you get when you leave Waggott in charge of anything.

Pretty much my thoughts, too, Rev. In fact, I’m quite warming to the appointment, assuming it’s Tomasson who gets the nod.

He has an outstanding pedigree, albeit mainly on the playing side of things. He’d probably be the first to admit that his first foray into management/coaching was a relative failure. He then corrected that by serving an apprenticeship, as a number two for several years, with the Danish National side, before trying again with Malmö and delivering two championships. A move to England, or similar standard, would be seen as his natural progression up the coaching ladder.

It has got to be reiterated that we have Venky’s in charge who have a history of penny pinching (and wanton waste) where managers are concerned. With the candidates interviewed so far, it’s clear that they have not changed their modus operandi, so who did we honestly think we would get? Under the circumstances, I feel he would be a decent choice and certainly better than most of those on the managerial merry-go-round of mediocrity.

With the choice of Broughton as DoF, it also feels that Tomasson would be a good fit with regard to bringing in young players, developing them and then selling on for a profit. Something he worked on at Malmö. Both Broughton and Tomasson singing from the same hymn sheet.

Nothing would please me more than Venky’s throwing in the towel and off loading us onto fresh owners but it seems like this move to DoF and Head Coach is the first positive from them in twelve years.

It may work, it may not but I’m cautiously optimistic.

I am positive that I am in the same frame of mind as you and many others about the lack of appointing a manager with 1 week to go before the players return.

I am positive that progress is being made.

I am positive that I remain sated by the complete football knowledge that we read daily on here.

I am positive that despite members having an opinion of Waggot, his failures, his duties, his lack of vision and ability as a CEO and that he has the power to over rule the owners that scenario is complete and utter shite!

I am positive Gregg Broughton will be a different dynamic to Ewood on the football side.

    Does that help?

With due respect, 1864, it doesn’t. Once again, it’s vague, wishy washy and has no specifics.

Not sure what you’re trying to say in your fourth paragraph. Are you suggesting folk on here believe he has the power to overrule the owners, because I can’t ever remember that view being put forward.

He may well have got the DoF bit right but, there again, it may well turn out to be a damp squib.

Surely Knutsen would be the ‘dream ticket’ in that context as he’s actually had success with Broughton, Delia just happens to be from the same country as Knutsen, go and get OGS in if that’s the barometer.

I don’t think it is the barometer. It’s just that Deila is close to the top of the betting list.

From what Swanson says, earlier in the thread, it would appear that Knutsen and Broughton don’t get on, so it may well have to be Broughton and a n other.

They wouldn't even serve us in a few pubs on the UEFA trip.  None of us had colours on, simply an English accent.  I doubt it would be as bad for a friendly mind!

Should have come with us Ossy. We all said we’d just have a few before the game but that went out the window as soon as we got to our hotel. By the time we had been in a few pubs on the Gallowgate, I was pretty much bladdered and I’ve regretted it ever since. Can’t remember a thing about the game. At the time, after the match, there seemed to be a distinct lack of pubs or eateries in the city centre (or at least we couldn’t find any) and we ended up in a Chinese in the early hours, after being refused entry to a couple of clubs. A great couple of days in good company, despite the defeat.

Like any other football club board they will have had their eye on a possible replacement or replacements even when Critchley appeared to be settled. You never know in football and it pays to think ahead in any business.

Spot on. I was going to post the same a few days ago but lethargy set in. Every well run club in the country should have players in mind, for each position in the team, should a bad injury rule out one of their players for any length of time. The same applies for a replacement manager/head coach.

All I can say is that from the 60's, when I started on the old Blackburn End, there were always two "Birdies"...variously "Fat Birdy/Thin Birdy" or "Birdy One/Birdy Two"....

I always knew them as Darwen Birdy and Church Birdy.

The latter was on the coach to Orient, the day Waggy got the first ever red card. He (Birdy, not Waggy) supped a bottle of wine/whiskey, threw the empty bottle down the coach which split a lad’s head open. He was a Grade A certified nutcase.

Ainsworth has been interviewd & is last man standing ……he’s been constant throughout the month but for some reason they don’t like him …… even though he’s showing the most interest…

Maybe he needs to play hard to get ……

I was at a party, twenty six years ago, with Ainsworth’s dad. On that basis alone, I want him for the job.

Ronny Deila; there is interest from a club(s) in England and Belgium (Standard Liege). I thought he was going to sign for the Belgium club, but maybe he has been approached by Rovers in the meantime?

And there are not many other clubs in the Championship looking for a manager is it? Burnley, Blackpool and us?

Little bit unsure on Delia. Was ok at Celtic but only just ok, winning three of the six trophies on offer, during his two seasons there but without having Rangers in the same division. Don’t think Celtic fans were over impressed either. The pressure, I think, got to him and he stepped down after having won his second league title there. He was only 38 years old when he went to Scotland and will obviously be more experienced now. I would give him a 6 out of 10.

Without straying too far into old firm willy waving territory, I doubt what the Lisbon Lions achieved in 1967 will ever be surpassed - and that isn't taking anything away from Rangers 2022 whatsoever. What was the stat - all players apart from one were born within about 10 miles of Celtic Park? Incredible.

Get Mr Lennox round to yours for a brew Andy. Just up the road.

Bridgeton, which is a short walk from Celtic Park in a direct line to the city centre and just before you reach the Barras area, is a huge protestant area, which is why there have been a lot of assaults on and stabbings of Sellick fans on their way home from the game over the years.

I know it, Andy. Drove right through it last month, the day after the game, but didn’t realise that it was a Protestant area.

  11. I believe there is a Rangers pub, relatively close to Celtic Park, but I’ve never seen it. I used to go up to Celtic a fair bit in the 1980s with a lad from Chorley who was a keen Celtic supporter who had a soft spot for Rovers. I was the other way round. We always went in the Springfield Vaults, an absolute rough hole, on the corner of Springfield Road and London Road, two minutes from the ground. The regulars were spot on, though, and we never had or saw any bother. I was surprised to see that it was still there, when I went in April, but it looked in a sorry state.

Once went up to Hampden for an evening semi final and went in what was an obvious Rangers pub before the game. We were made to take off any Celtic colours and were given them back on the way out. There was a real tension in the place and I was glad to sup up and get out of there.

They’re a decent set of supporters these days and I don’t think that Rovers fans will have any problems, either inside or outside the ground. Wearing colours in the local pubs should be ok as well.

anyone have an idea when the celtic tickets'll be out?

Nothing yet on the Celtic website.

For anyone driving up on the day, there should be ample free parking at the Forge Shopping Centre, which is just a quarter of a mile north of the stadium, off the Gallowgate. In April, I watched the Celtic v St Johnstone game and parked there.

The Gallowgate is a long road, running east out of the city centre and finishes just beyond the Parkhead district, before becoming Tollcross Road. Plenty of decent pubs along its route. The stadium is roughly three miles east of the city centre, easily walkable from Glasgow Central, which is what our group did when we played Celtic in 2003.

If we are out of decent options, and it sure sounds like we are, I would give it to a former player, no matter how bad they've done. Dunn or Tugay. Friedel? I understand the risks. But I just desperately miss having someone in leadership that cares about the club.

Wouldn’t want any of those three. Dunny, in particular, would have us relegated to non league level in record time.
