  1. I have spent many hours wandering around Ambleside. Spoilt for choice when it comes to food.

I loved Dodds and The Priest Hole. Everyone seemed to be heading for Lucy's on a plate. Did not go myself. Seemed very expensive.

I think the Lucy places are over rated and not worth going to; Zefferilli's (sp?) is quite good, especially if you combine a meal with cinema tickets.

  2. Some sad news for older fans that I have just seen in the LT of 9/9.

Tommy Johnston, aged 81, has died recently.

After retirement he moved to Poulton then emigrated to Australia in 1972.

It really upset me in 57/58 when he scored a load of goals against us for Leyton Orient but he definetely helped us get promoted to Div 1.

  3. Haven't the Fence Gate opened up another place somewhere, memory fails me but think it was another restaurant/pub somewhere.

We're spoilt for good food TBH, esp getting over t'Rib Vall way, so many great places to eat - most needing a car like - that cater for a few different markets.

I think the fence Gate are opening the Spread Eagle at Barrow.

Blue Diamond owner sold that when he moved to the Spring Mill (Sylette). Alright that lad.... he played Christmas carols over the Christmas period rather than that wailing stuff.

I think he is involved in a restaurant in the Preston area and I understand he spends his time working there.

He started off at the Anaz and had a spell at the Shahjan.

I don't know if he is still involved with Roe Lee takeaway.

  4. IIRC, the academy was seperated from the rest of the Ewood set-up a couple of seasons ago. The idea being that when managers are changed, it doesn't have a detrimental effect on the academy. This is meant to bring more stability to the youth system.

I haven't seen any youth team game since approx 3 years ago when they beat Coventry in some final or other, but I do talk to people who go to youth and reserve games. The general consensus is that no-one of Premiership quality is coming through the system, which, considering the amount of money going into the system, is unacceptable. I, of course, cannot offer the answer, but it is alleged that instead of Bobby Downes conducting a report into why the system isn't working, he should be asked to leave.

At least then there might be players who deserve to move into the 1st team squad.

  5. What I think MH should be OBLIGED to do is to give more emphasis to improving the Youth set-up, after all, as I have posted elsewhere, this is the worst decade for the youth set-up's success in bringing players through to play in the top division.

If we could provide a successful system, it would save a great deal of money and would enable us as a club to progress, as well as helping to create some, admittedly limited, loyalty in a group of the players.

Man City produce players for their squad and I have read that Southampton have sold £45,000,000 of players in recent years.

  6. That's interesting but I am sure I saw him sitting at the back of the stand just after Liverpool scored- bit difficult to tell as the picture was made fuzzy by the falling rain reflecting the stadium lights.

I read that he was out of the country on business.

  7. I'm sorry, what have we won since he left? He might have worn out his welcome here, but at least we have silverware to show from his tenure.

We won the battle against relegation the season he left.

If we had played Sheffield Wednsday in a semi-final we might even have got to a final, and then if a big team had underperformed.....................

  8. I live on the outskirts of Tile Hill - What I would like to think of as Tile Hill Village! Was it Rupali that you went to? THat place has won loads of awards - and yes it is really nice!

It was certainly a restaurant that had won a lot of awards so it was probably the Rupali. I seem to remember it was next door to a Coventry Building Society office.

  9. Rover6 made a similar point. Either way, does saying "I know it's not his fault but..." really make something better? It was part of a list of reasons why she dislikes him.

"I know they can't help which skin coulour they're born with, but...."?

I'm just curious to see how proficient they are at their second and third languages. Maybe provide a sample for my amusement?

I understand Gumboots is a language teacher.

  10. Gally was good at Stoke bad at PNE. Derbs was not deemed good enough at Plymouth and scored a goal a game at Wrexham.

I noticed in the LT today that Gallagher is the target for a mystery championship club " and Hughes may decide to do business, knowing the 23 year old has now reached the point in his career where he needs regular first team football. Gallagher is still highly thought of by Rovers but Hughes knows he cannot guarantee the player a regular place in his side, which may lead to his departure later in the window."

  11. Sounds as though things are going wrong for Toshack-in the Daily Telegraph the Football Association of Wales official Phil Woosnam is quoted. " It's about time he accepts that things are not right with the national team. Everything is put on a plate for him and the players and there can be no excuses. The style of football is like watching paint dry. "

  12. The drums have never been a problem for me personally, i've always thought they were good for the atmosphere HOWEVER those plastic bloody horns...god no! I had 2 kids behind me with one EACH for a game last season and they sound bloody awful... they are a cheap replacement for the good old fashioned air horn, which in moderation I don't mind!

I kind of wanted to get one-until I heard how much noise they made at the semi-final!
