just a couple off top of my head with no real thoughti still think friedel was the most under rated player of all time 😂
Berger is a good shout.
Alan Mahon was never going to displace Duff, but always looked good when called on.
I always thought John Curtis was a better player than Lucas Neill. Probably more one-footed though.

Qatar are terrible and their keeper is an absolute liability.
I hear Mowbray has taken an interest.

So who had 6 minutes for the brown envelope to reach the VAR office?

Yeah the final was a big disappointment, but even that had the iconic Baggio penalty miss at the end!
And an absolute defensive masterclass by Baresi.

How can you fail to turn up for a derby?
Fuming & gutted.

Just watched the goals on Sky. Unbelievable poise of the penalty takers. In fairness both sides.
This link is a keeper.
Funny to think that Pears let in 11 goals and we won 🤔

And now Olivia is coming back from the jungle early on medical advice (I presume she keeps her appearance fee).
Poor lad can't seem to catch a break.

Reported as torn meniscus and MCL, and potential torn ACL. According to Paul himself, the injury occured halfway through the match. I couldn't imagine going 10+ mins on a busted knee.

The first would benefit from some light editing, the second not so much:

Just done a Rovers quiz on Sporcle and completely missed Alex Baptiste. I wouldn’t have got him if I had all year.

When I was at uni during the ‘99 relegation season, the club ran a special offer for successive home games against perennial strugglers Coventry, Southampton and Charlton.
We lost the first two and I missed the third.

There was a 0-0 at Ewood against Swindon in early 2000 that's up there for me. Us rooted in mid table and them rock bottom.
‘There’s no easy games in this division, except maybe against Ipswich at home’
For some reason I think it was Shearer who said it. We then went and lost the match.

The Bolton game that sticks in my mind was when Diouf dived to win a penalty, Brad saved and Diouf stuck in the rebound. Was in rather a bad mood about that one.

Speical mention for England-Algeria in 2010.

Not sure, he might have fallen foul of Souness by that point. I've not checked, but I think Stead might have been alongside Dickov and/or Kuqi in his second season.

Jonny Stead had my favourite 6 months of any Rovers player ever.
His impact undoubtedly saved us from relegation in Souey's final full season.
There first player that demonstrated to me the difference between class and form, but I'll be forever grateful for his contribution 🙂
I've got it in my head that it was playing alongside Cole that helped him score as many as he did (as happened with Jansen a couple of years prior). After Cole left, Stead's form nosedived.

Brilliant shot stopper but i remember him getting criticism for being a fairly quiet keeper and not organising his defenders well enough, Alan Kelly then came in and as competition for him... Kelly was the opposite, all mouth but a very very average keeper... Friedel followed those 2 and the rest is history
Another Rovers keeper around that time was Alan Miller - only played two games for us but was also our sub keeper in the league cup win. Sadly passed away last year. Only 51.

In the period when Ronaldo and Messi were at Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively, they scored 85% of goals in La Liga.

Man Utd went over a year without a Saturday 3pm kick-off

Jim Smith, who was Derby manager at the time, told the story that he’d heard that Hodgson was interested in Dailly. He passed it on to his chairman who said “ Remember Jim, not a penny less than £2 Million if they get on to you “.
Apparently Hodgson’s opening offer was £5 Million and Jim Smith talked it up to £5.25 Million. £5 Million more than he was worth !
I can't help but think Dailly might still be in our top 10 transfer fees paid.
Cole, Rhodes, Davies, Grabbi, Brereton, Kalinic (£6m?)...don't know if there's any others.

As mentioned above, Chile vs Italy in 1962 where the presenter (a young David Coleman?) used those words, but you may be thinking about Portugal vs Netherlands in 2006 - the battle of Nuremburg:
