    I suspect you're correct , Ian

My view is that the Venkys were right royally taken advantage of, by unscrupulous parties, in the early days of their ownership of BRUFC....

I've been slated on here lately for glorying in Rover's decline, whereas that is untrue. From my very first post, I expressed a desire that Rovers should be back in the hands of local owners, much as Burnley have been, who have a handle on public opinion and can build the Club up. Ideally, Venkys should have left these matters to a trusted local management team and written the cheques accordingly. Nothing would please me more than to see BFC, BRFC & PNE all in the Premier League together,  with Brighton and Bournmouth back in the lower leagues....

Unfortunately, some on here are about as conversant with a set of accounts as I am with the intricacies of Ball Room dancing ! The truth is that the Venkys have funded the Club to the tune of over £20m over the last 14 months, which has allowed them to regain their Championship status !

And this is coming from a fan of a club where the fans sing about Blackburn born Jack Walker being dead and wanting Venkys to live long.

I am not conversant with accounting but I can smell a bullshitter at 13 miles.

Is he an improvement on what we've already got ?

We were strongly linked last summer but he signed a new deal at Bradford. We then took on Caddis but I thought at the time McMahon would have been a better option. I think there is a Middlesbrough connection with Mowbray.

  3. I just hope Mowbray is at his silver tongued best when he presents them lists to the Indians. Based on history alone they should opt for the freebies and loans but Mowbray simply has to do his upmost to deter them and bring in players of Championship ability otherwise we will face an uphill battle to stay in it. But they don't come cheap. Personally I don't think they will really want to push the boat out and will go the cheap route.

I sincerely hope I am wrong.

People seem to be inclined to credit Venkys for continuing to pay the bills as though they are happily doing this because they are kind and benevolent people. They are meeting their responsibilities as majority shareholders for meeting running costs, the vast majority of which they have increased through their decision making and ineptitude over several years.

The alternative to putting that money in is clear. Option one is that they put the club into administration, option two is that they liquidate the club. Either of those means that they lose control of it and either way they will never get remotely close to recouping the money they've lost to date.

Its like me buying a house, leaving the property to go to rack and ruin for 5 years, but meeting the mortgage payments, and then going back after 5 years and coughing up some more money to repair it and make it habitable. I'd have little to no choice but to do it and shoulder the cost of doing it. The alternative would be handing the keys back to the bank or being left with a house that was worthless and uninhabitable. What Venkys are doing is basically that but on a much larger scale. Meeting the bills and mortgage costs (which they've little choice about) and then allowing a bit more in when persuaded to do so to try and build up some more value in the club and improve its condition moving forward.

I accept that they are putting their money in and it is a substantial amount each month, but I'm not grateful to them for doing it as I don't think they've much choice and I also think the majority of losses even now could be reduced if they had put a more competent structure in place some time ago. For example our revenues are relatively small yet the commercial side of the club has been woefully short of the level required for some time. I'm also not particularly worried about the debt situation that people at other clubs seem to obsess about as they've no chance of getting that money back.

I don't get this gratitude to them for paying the bill's neither. The prolonged predicament we have (and still are in) found ourselves in is down to them. I still have 120 million reasons to dislike them.

It's like being on a life support machine for several years after being assaulted and your assailant paying the electricity bill to keep the machine switched on. And you have to be thankful to them.

When he was good for us he was very good. On other days you would have hardly known he was playing. I had high hopes for him here. He seems to have come on somewhat at Fulham. I've said before players come in two categories. The ones that get you on top in a game and the ones that dominate the opposition when the first group have got you on top. He belongs in the second group.

I really don't think he was allowed to flourish too much at Ewood because Bowyer used him in the inverted winger role, a role to which many people thought didn't suit him or play to his strengths. Fulham saw him as a more central player and from there he can dominate games with his range of passing. He has McDonald alongside him who is more of a workhorse doing the uglier stuff.

A lot of 'names' in that Derby team, but quite a few of them look one paced and were miles off a rapid Fulham team, superb pass and move football at times.

I agree about Derby. They have far too many 'older' players who are coming to the end and whilst you can get away with that against some teams once they come up against a vibrant, pacy team they get found out. Rowett will need to perform major surgery if they are ever to get into the PL. In a way I hope Fulham don't go up because Craven Cottage is a good ground to go to but I think it would be an injustice if they didn't. They remind me of the Tigana Fulham team who walked away with the Championship several years ago. I refereed them a few times and the football was exhilarating. One of their players told me that Tigana used to fine the keeper (Maik Taylor) if he kicked the ball long.

    Looking to extend Conway’s deal?

Meanwhile Payne is told that he would only be a sub and if that isn’t good enough, find another club?

Not really the noises I wanted to be hearing.

It's disappointing to hear that Conway might get a new deal. I just don't think he will add any value to the squad and will probably impede the progress of one of the promising youngsters we have coming through.

  8. Looking at the make up of the Championship it's strange as we won't have Cardiff but have pretty much got Swansea, we won't have Wolves but have West Bromwich. Two long trips to East Anglia and Norfolk beckon and potentially five trips to London if Fulham don't go up and Charlton do. Bristol is another hike but them aside most are accessible within two hours.

    Thanks Kamy.

people can calm down and stop worrying like some previous posts.

People have to trust or learn to trust Mowbray and know that he wouldn't come out with quotes like that. if he was saying what the Sun reported then he would have said to the LT and Radio Lancs not to the Sun. this is also a problem when national newspapers are covering Championship/league 1 clubs.

Please stop telling people to calm down as it's annoying. Quite rightly there was concern and people are correct and entirely free to express that concern on a Rovers forum.

It is from The Sun but it is a direct quote.  Question is has the quote been completely taken out of context.  I have asked the club for clarification.

The FFP rules as massively complicated but the calculation will be based on the last 3 years so that is why we could fall foul.  However, I am hoping that in FFP submission we can show that a genuine effort has been made to reduce costs given that there are other clubs in the Championship who are blatantly flouting the rules and seemingly getting away with it.

Has a journo put their name to the article Kamy?

It was 8.5 million in league one but surely our players had relegation clauses in their contracts that meant their wages dropped?Presumably now we have been promoted their wages will increase?I'm not sure how it works to be honest.Dack is also deserving of a better deal and I would presume the club will be looking to give him that as I'm sure other clubs will be looking at him.So the wage bill will rise before any new players are through the door

If that is true then it worries me even more.

Good thing about this summer is that Mowbray doesn't have lots of players who offer nothing taking up a chunk of the wage bill. There are a few that we could do to get rid of but I doubt they are on big money as the wage bill is only £8.5m. Caddis and Whittingham are two I think we can do without but beyond that you could make a case for most other first-teamers staying.

That £8.5m wage bill worries me in light of the visit to India. If the reports are true that promotion is worth around £6m I am concerned that Venkys will look at that and offset it against the current wage bill and not increase it by too much. I sincerely hope I am wrong (and then accused of being negative) but I have a feeling this isn't going to end well.

Although I do agree that manager's should be given time but sometimes it obvious a change is needed.Case in point is Pardew at West Brom, I bet the owners regret not giving him the sack earlier if they had they could well have stayed up this season

One of the problems I find is that when a manager who is clearly struggling and gets the sack invariably clubs just pick up one of the jobbers like Pardew. I think if he had gone earlier they would probably have brought a new manager in from the merry-go-round. They only appointed Darren Moore because they thought they were going down and now they have a dilemma. Do they stick with him or bring in one of the desperado characters who generally have made a success of failure but have one biggie on their CV's.

I think Waggott is taking a small gamble on the price structure due to the love in for Mowbray and just popular he is with Rovers fans

You think a small gamble but for me it's a big gamble. Mowbray is undoubtedly popular but I would love to know his true feelings on a 17% increase given his working class, value for money background.

Lambert rated him enough to give him a three year deal. It was the only time that Evans was consistant while he has been at Ewood. It is the annoying thing about him is that there is potential there. Still think there is a question about his core fitness as he always looks knackered after an hour.

I understood that the new deal was agreed just before Bowyer was sacked but it was actually signed on Lambert's watch.

In my opinion it's all about how high the bar is set with Evans. Generally I think it has been pretty low in his time thus far but in fairness he has risen slightly above that recently. For me we can massively improve on him without necessarily signing anybody.
