But unfortunately wouldn't know a decent player if he tripped over one.

In fairness, the good players he has lined up (eg O'Brien, Undav, etc) get conveniently scuppered by the club.

Yet we're able to piss £20k a week away on an overweight cripple, who won't play another minute for the club.

  2. I was driving home from work when I listened to this, so might have misheard.

But I'm sure early in the interview, GB states that the issues in India will have no financial impact on the club, including transfers.

Only to later confirm that it had caused a massive impact in the summer and it would also need resolving (along with knowing which division we're in) before we know what business we can do in the summer.

    Which one is it?

  3. I think the Italy game in the last Euros final was a perfect demonstration of Southgate's limitations as a coach.

1-0, on top and the game/trophy there to be won.

But he sat back, put on players like Henderson and invited Italy to come upon us.
And we all know what happened from there.

  4. One thing that is interesting, off the back of this interview, is that it shows fans are deliberately being directly lied to.

Whether it's the SS/Hyam/JDT bits or some other things, either Broughton or Waggott have openly been lying to the fans.

And I know where my money is, between the two.

The McGuire transfer error is just absolutely astonishing the more you think about it.

The fact we had him in the shirt, revealed him as a Rovers player only to have not had it confirmed by the league, for a second time in 12 months and for no one to have been fired...

    It's absolutely insane.

We are talking unprecedented levels of incompetency.

I'm struggling with every match day to think that this really happened again and that we are seemingly expected to turn up and pretend it didn't. There is zero accountability at the level it matters most.

Good luck to the players in the final fixtures but off the field at this club it's an absolute disgrace.

And what amazes me even more is that the club has taken the 'fingers in the ears / hands over the eyes / they'll all forget about it if we leave it long enough' route.
Massive kick in the dick for fans.

In terms of the match, I can't explain how depressing it is that a team freshly promoted from League 1 is the favourite for a game being played at Ewood.

Sven took another centre half instead of Jansen, then didn’t play him.

    Martin Keown.

Though, if we're apportioning blame, it was Tord Grip who did the convincing that Keown was the man to take instead of Jansen.

Sven was planning on taking Matt right up to the last hours.

Since JDT left it's been 9 points(1 win, 6 draws and 2 lost) from 9 games. We had scored 9 goals and conceded 9 goals

whilst in the previous 9 games under JDT its was 6 points, (1 win, 3 draws and 5 lost). We had scored 10 goals and conceded 21 goals.

In fairness, if we're comparing, JE's games have been far easier - and some we should have been winning (teams around/below us).

He's now got plenty of time on the training ground before the next game, against a team full of confidence.
The next few games will give us an idea of whether JE is up to it or not...

Also special mention to Tronstad and Hedges...we look more solid with those two in the team even though they just come back from injuries. Dolan must turn his head right...has been poor after the fine two goals against Stoke.

Impressed with both. Hedges worked really hard at both ends of the pitch and has the ability to travel with the ball.

He's hit and miss, but he does have quality at this level.

There’s no doubt we play better with a back 4 who play it out from the back, and have an extra midfielder to play it to. JDT had them practise it every day for 18 months, and we’ve seen how crap they are at anything else.

I like Bucko but his slowness of thought vs A Wharton is why he takes 4-5 touches before he sees a pass, if he doesn’t lose it in the meantime. He can pass though.

Of all Gallagher’s many shortcomings, his stupid runs that offer the passer no possibility of finding him annoy me the most.

    Agree with all of that.

And an example of that last point was Ayari's superb curved ball over the top, right to SG's feet.
Obviously SG made a mess of it, but a good striker likely scores from there.

  10. I think when the manager is telling them that a point at home to Millwall and/or Plymouth Fucking Argyle is a good result, they will naturally start to believe it.

Mentality and momentum are massive in competitive sport.

Coach the players to be winners, if you want them to win.

I think if he just came out and said "we were second best, we've got some stuff to go and work on in the week ahead" I'd be able to stomach him a bit more. Fans appreciate honesty, they generally don't appreciate blatant lying, especially after over a decade of it from almost everybody associated with the club.

This is what is rubbing a lot of fans the wrong way, myself included.

Trying to bullshit the fans about things they've just seen with their own eyes is not the best plan, when you've just walked through the door.

Which is why I hold out a distant hope that the intervention of the Indian authorities and Courts may ultimately be a blessing in the long run.

In the short term not - the stripping back of the last 12 months or so shows that - but ultimately there's now the involvement of a third party infinitely more powerful than Venkys. Up to this point they've been free to do as they please with nobody able to do a damn thing about it. Get the authorities and Courts involved and things get interesting.

It took Court action to bring the Oystons down and get them out of Blackpool, and it might take the same to get rid of the poison here.

As long as the investigations and restrictions continue I'll hold out hope that it is leading towards findings or an end point. The worry is that the investigation goes nowhere and the restrictions are released, then we are back to square one.

Personally I hope they are found guilty of some very serious stuff, and it ultimately brings their entire empire crashing down.

The question is where the club will be and how irreversible the damage is at that point.

  13. Other than his brief appearance against Newcastle, I'd honestly never heard of Koumetio before.

However, my Liverpool-supporting mate told me the other night that he's pretty highly rated at Anfield and was surprised we'd got him in on loan.

Chuck him in against Boro - we're expecting defeat anyway, so no pressure.

  14. I don't think we were intentionally throwing matches; it's the result of putting an absolute incompetent nobody like Kean in charge of the team.

What I do find interesting though is NDAs being handed out like sweets.
And they're still clearly active, as no former player has been brave enough to speak up about what went on.

Why would you do this if there's nothing dodgy being concealed?

That was 100000% gally yesterday when he shit out like a coward of the challenge in the first half . I'd of dragged the soft bastard off there and then . Is there more of a soft arsenal in football for a 6ft 4 striker..

Epitomised everything that is wrong with the deep roots of the club did that

The worst bit was, if he'd made the effort and won the ball, SS would have been clean through.

  16. He makes the point that they've not had much time on the training ground, which is a reasonable enough point.

Problem is, we also have no plan or actual tactic.
Yesterday, Plymouth either had a clear instruction that a simple ball over the top of our CBs would bring them success, or their tactic was changed early on to adapt.

What did we do? What is our plan during games?
    I genuinely don't see it.

It's like 11 lads are selected and the rest is just whatever happens on the pitch.
This has been an observation since JE took over and it's genuinely concerning.

honourable mention to leo today,he played very well and looked like a keeper who belongs at this level

I've had pelters for this, but I'm sticking with it - Leo will become a good GK and play at a higher level than Pears ever will.
Well, technically he already had (international football).

He's had a poor start overall with us, but I think there's a very decent GK in there.

  18. I genuinely couldn't get past the first sentence of that post-match interview:

'The effort the group put in to limit them to very few chances was amazing'

Does he think that the game was played behind closed doors?
We saw Plymouth have about 17 efforts on goal with our own eyes - and they should have been out of sight by HT.

    Baffling.

If it wasn't for a very soft red card decision, Rovers would have took the 3pts. What have referees got against Blackburn Rovers, they always seem to side with the visitors. One good thing Sam Szchmodics on target again. I can't believe Tyrys Dolan was on the bench, he's one of our best players this season.

I wish I could be as optimistic as you are - Plymouth should have scored at least 3/4 in that first half.
We sat deep and were wide open.

A proper team today would have been out of sight by HT.

The only surprise is that we managed to not concede more than one goal, though you do have to say Leo had a decent game.

But then, the manager publicly stated that a point would have been a good result before the game (at home to Plymouth...), so at least we lived up to his expectations.
