He stepped in as caretaker when Wilder left, so assume it's more that than Heckingbottom being given the role permanently. Who knows, though. Not to dissimilar to us giving Bowyer the job back in the day.

Oh, it's more than that, he's signed a 4 year contract.

The bloke has been a terrible manager, bombing at Leeds and Hibs. Even his caretaker role earlier in the year with Sheff Utd he oversaw 8 losses in 11 games.

They'll be lucky to stay up.

if we are playing a back 5 then my team would be

                          Kaminski

               Lenihan Ayala Wharton

    Buckley Travis Davenport Rothwell Pickering

                    Dolan Brereton

    I really don't want to see a back 3.

I think, as someone mentioned in another thread, the surprises in the team selection going forward will end up being Lenihan phased out in favour of Wharton.

A back 3 keeps Ayala and Lenihan in the team (for now) but gets some much needed minutes into Wharton.

    Just my thoughts anyway.

I dont think that its an issue whereby Mowbray would take his foot off the gas if he was given a new deal but there is absolutely no need to give him one before the end of the season, and only then if we overachieve and make the top 6.

Yeah, I was thinking that not having a new deal sorted might galvanise him a little but if got a new deal he might just revert to type.

I suppose ultimately, he's too streaky to make a consistent assault on the play off places, regardless of his contract situation.

Bit no, I wouldn't be handing him a new contract before the summer and even then, he would have had to pull off something spectacular to even be offered a contract in the summer.

Inevitably, we will tumble down the league to our usual Mowbray place of mid-lower table and hopefully a parting of ways in the summer (at the latest)

Just positing, if we are top 6 in January, would a transfer budget and new contract for Mowbray be logical?

The problem with Mowbray (ok one of the problems) is that he is a very streaky manager for us. We often go on good runs of being unbeaten, only to follow that up without being able to buy a win.

Because of that, any contract offer needs to wait until the summer. Give him a new 2 year deal (let's say) in Jan because we are 5th/6th but then could very well nose dive down the league and win something like 2 out of 15 games.

I can see where you're coming from but there is also the possibility that him knowing he'll be out of contract at the end of the season might actually prove to be a motivator to make him actually earn a new contract (I know, I know).

As soon as he's got his new deal, he might take the foot off the gas and start talking about Journey's again.

  5. For the first time, I tested out streaming my Xbox to phone, connecting my controller to my phone and playing it that way.

Have to admit, I was skeptical it would work at all but it worked really well. Admittedly the screen is small and that does have an impact but I am now tempted to get a phone mount for my controller (can be bought for less than £10) as the wife often watches utter crap on TV on a night.

Anyone else regularly stream their console to a phone?

Vincent Tan is basing this decision on the improved performances and attractive style during the last few matches. That never works out well! Reading between the lines, are Cardiff in financial trouble? It seems like a cheap option.

Appointing him only till the end of the season is a smart move. These sort of appointments normally start well before fading quickly.

Cardiff probably hoping he can gain enough points to avoid relegation and review in the summer.

Lampard to Norwich is a puzzler. He got the boot at Chelsea because he couldn't organise a defence. Priority number 1 at Norwich is to do exactly that.

Gerrard to Villa is a gamble (aren't they all though?). I have no idea what he is like as a manager.

John Terry left Villa in the summer to fine tune his skills with a view to management. I wonder what his thoughts are today?

Next job for Lamprd is a big one (for him) he wasn't at either Derby or Chelsea for very long and his team's have always been prone to conceding goals.

Norwich would be a risky move as I doubt he'd keep them up, would Norwich be willing to grant him the time for a promotion push if they did go down?

Gerrard to Villa is definitely a gamble but at least managed 3 years at Rangers, winning the league and going unbeaten etc. The caveat being, it's the SPL with a Celtic team on the slide.

Even so, I suspect that Gerrard will have more success at Villa than Lampard will at Norwich (or wherever his next job is)
