And where did they end the season under Keegan and how long is he likely to last at St James's next season ? Allardyce was badly advised going to Newcastle but the likelihood he would have made them into a top six club within 2 seasons. Whether that would have been good enough for the imbeciles who run that club is doubtful though. You're wrong about Ince. I don't want him anywhere near my club.

I recall plenty of exciting games on MoD involving the Trotters under Allardyce, and they usually ended with victory for Bolton too. Rovers under Allardyce would be no more "boring" or tactically sterile than they were under Hughes; they would be hard to beat and they would continue to get up the noses of the southern media and the likes of Wenger and Benitez. Good. Just how I like it.

One more than you, apparently. This campaign against Allardyce is nonsensical. What would Rovers fans rather have - an entertaining 3-2 defeat or a 1-0 win ? Professional football is a results business and the club cannot risk appointing a manager who may or may not provide "entertainment" but takes the club down to the championship. Steve Coppell anyone ? My preference would be McClaren but Allardyce would do a good job for Rovers.

The number of times McCarthy is caught offside is ludicrous. Why doesn't he look across the back line before he makes his runs ? Watching him at Derby today he's also evidently a supremely selfish player. As a sharp hardworking forward myself in my pomp I would have hated playing with him.

Pedersen's too nice a lad and his confidence is in tatters from the bollockings he receives from his team-mates. At one point in the second half McCarthy ranted at Pedersen for shooting instead of passing the ball. He was still ranting at him five minutes later.

Three - four years is the usual stretch for most managers before they are either found wanting or are unable to motivate their team any longer. It could well be that Hughes has reached that point with Rovers.

Stories emerging that McCarthy stormed out of Ewood after being substituted against Newcastle and has told Hughes he wants to leave.

I've said it before but England's international record for a supposed major football nation is appalling. When did Germany or Italy, countries of similar population size and with similarly strong leagues, last fail to qualify for the World Cup or the European Championship ? Both countries have also won the World Cup three times and reached the final on other occasions. England have reached one final in their history. Apart from the Ramsey era, and brief spells under Ron Greenwood, Bobby Robson and Terry Venables (in Euro 96), England have always been badly managed. The problem for the next England manager is the few young England-qualified players that are coming through aren't as good as the present lot.
