  1. Supposing Moyes is one of the three Premiership managers who have applied for the job, what does he think he can achieve at Rovers that he cannot at a much larger club like Everton?
  2. If Hoddle is handed the job I will never go to Ewood Park again. And I mean it.
  3. No mention of Strachan. I get the feeling that the job is Mark Hughes's, but he is in a quandary over whether to accept because of Wales's World Cup commitments.
  4. He may have applied for the job but I doubt he's a "target" Jim. Sun's words, not mine. There are no quotes with the story so I wouldn't put any money on it.... ....unlike Brownie!
  5. How about this one? According to tomorrow's Sun, Mick McCarthy is a target for Rovers to replace Souness. Iain Dowie is also mentioned.
  6. To judge from his transfer record over the years, Souness usually buys those players he knows and trusts. Expect him to go for (in no particular order): Friedel, Ferguson, Tugay, Stead, Neill and one or two rising Academy stars. We may hold on to one or two but it is inevitable that we shall lose some to Newcastle.
  7. One of tomorrow's papers "reveals" that Souness took the Newcastle job because he thought he was only two games away from the sack at Ewood. It also gives details of an incident involving Souness and Williams at Brockhall before the season started. Love him or loathe him, you cannot ignore Souness's ability to attract the headlines.
  8. Yes, definitely. As I said in my earlier post, any all-time Rovers team would HAVE to include Keith Newton. If he is not in at right back then he must go in at left. He was a class act whereever he played.
  9. It would appear that Souness was scouting for Rovers at the Doncaster v Walsall match on Saturday when he was contacted by Newcastle. Presumably any player he was interested in will be now heading for the North East. I would bet that the Rovers board are privately relieved that the "Souness problem" has been taken off their hands in that his recent record was worthy of the sack yet they could not afford to dismiss him. Thank you Newcastle for doing the job for them. Of the managers available, Strachan is the only really credible candidate. Hughes is too involved with the Wales 2006 World Cup qualifying campaign and I believe that even the Rovers board, while weak, would not be so daft as to appoint Houllier. Any inexperienced manager plucked from the lower divisions would mean instant relegation IMO. I've had a few good days in my long existence but the departure of Souness has brought a beam to my wrinkled old face. Any future without Souness in charge of the club is a better future as far as I'm concerned. I found this poem on t'internet that sums up my feelings perfectly today. If a happiness poem could bring forth a smile, Then my face would always dress in style. If my ears could hear my computer screen, From one to another, they, too, would grin. My keyboard types for my eyes not my tongue This happiness poem will never be sung. But what of my eyes? Don't they shine? Yes, but not from this poem of mine. The pen is mightier than the sword, But a pen can write only words. The feelings I sense and the senses I feel For keyboard and screen remain far too real. My ears and my nose remain at rest. My cheeks and hairline are doing their best. But if this happiness poem could make my mouth smile, My face would forever dress up in style Bye bye Souness. Good riddance.
  10. Proving that Hird was a converted midfield player (which he was) and Price was good going forward but not the best defender. The last two are head and shoulders above the rest.
  11. It has to be Crompton, but Newton was sheer class. I'm voting for Keith at left back.
  12. One of our old players who Birmingham fans must be delighted with is Damien Johnson, who has become a permanent fixture in the team since Souness scandalously let him go.
  13. Newcastle, having been turned down by both Steve McClaren and Steve Bruce today, have switched their sights to Sam Allardyce!
  14. Because we need a player who is going to save us from relegation. If this is the solution to our problems, then I'm a cantankerous old so-and-so.
  15. So the knight in shining armour came galloping over the hill to the rescue of the Rovers in the shape of a Coventry reject. Wonderful. Souness's much-acclaimed Italian scouts strike again.
  16. Three hours 45 minutes to transfer deadline, or we're stuck the present load of stiffs until January.
  17. Dear Mr Clayton Left Boot, I've just noticed your signature. Was Sir Ronnie playing centre half in that game? And what happened to Frank Lord? Yours in sport jim
  18. 1 SOCCER Celtic Nightlead YORKE IN CELTIC TALKS Celtic have confirmed they are in talks with Blackburn Rovers striker Dwight Yorke over a possible move to Parkhead. The Bank of Scotland Premier League club are looking to take the former Manchester United man to Glasgow for the remainder of his contract with Rovers. But the Hoops dismissed suggestions that the 32-year-old had already agreed a three-year deal. A Celtic statement read: “The club would like to confirm that they have been given permission to speak to the player with a view to taking over the remainder of his contract.” more to follow
  19. The first is too old, the second is too young, the third is finished and the fourth is injured. Marvellous.
  20. Press Association confirmation 1 SOCCER Celtic Snap Celtic confirm they are in talks with Blackburn Rovers striker Dwight Yorke over a possible move to Parkhead.
  21. Word is that Geordie lad Steve Bruce is Newcastle's preferred choice as manager and has already been sounded out by the club.
  22. They may not be pleasant characters but Shepherd, like Rupert Lowe at Southampton, should be applauded for taking swift action for poor results by removing underperforming managers. The Rovers board may be happy to start the season with a "haul" of two points from 12 but at most other clubs Souness would have walked the plank by now. With one day to go before the transfer window closes until January, I find it hard to believe that Souness thinks that the present squad is good enough to keep Rovers in the Premiership. I notice that West Brom, who have made some very astute buys this summer, strengthened their squad further today by signing the excellent Robert Earnshaw from Cardiff. After their traumatic season two years ago, West Brom look much stronger this time around and I expect them to stay up with ease. Palace and Norwich have weak squads, but of the rest, I would say ours is the worst. The league table does not lie: Souness got lucky last season when he pulled a rabbit called Stead out of the hat who saved us from relegation. I doubt if he can pull off the trick a second time.
  23. Managerless teams always play well - null points at St James's next weekend means we will have gleaned a magnificent two points out of 15. Looking on the bright side, however, Souness must be a candidate for the Newcastle job because Shepherd is daft enough to appoint him, and with the Rangers post possibly on offer as well with the impending departure of McLeish, Souness could be out of Ewood before the end of September. There is hope for Rovers yet.
  24. We had a top quality forward - name of Andrew Cole - but Souness showed him the door.
  25. Now that Souness is being exposed for the fraud that he is, perhaps the board will now follow Southampton's example and terminate his contract forthwith. Sacking him in October when we are rock bottom with one point to our name will be far too late.
