[Archived] Mark Hughes - Good Choice ?
Manchester Blue replied to Ste B's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Regardless of who was in charge I would want us to be challenging in mid-table. I would accept staying in the premiership from either because that's what matters but I wouldn't be happy with 17th. I know you aren't saying that you would be happy and I understand that Hughes needs and deserves time. My only point is that with the players we have I think we should be able to achieve a mid-table finish. -
Well you would believe that wouldnt you, considering that you are one of the 17. Oh ok then Ste. your perfect are you i remember you talkin to one of my mates from ossy, i also seem to remember you being racist towards asian's, outside your house that day . Am i right mate!!!!!! This is where you are losing it now possibly because some posters are being a bit ott. Ste isn't perfect, I'm not and neither are any of my mates who I go to matches with. That's not the issue. You have said that these 17 should not be in court. Why not? Have they truly done nothing wrong? I've heard they are no angels, I wouldn't mess with them. What does that mean they like a drink and a laugh or if you look at them funny you'll get a slap. It's often said you see about a lot of hoolies that they are just normal lads that just happen to enjoy fighting. Well that's not normal to me but if they want to do that on a Friday night then fine but if it spoils mine and others Rovers fans Saturdays then not fine. If these 17 are truly innocent and just victims of the police then fair enough I would hold my hands up. There seems to be conflicting reports on here though as to whether that is really the case.

Read my post above but you're right it is just opnions. I'm not wanting to have a go and many 'casuals' that I know are normal decent folk . However many more who may well be hangers on are tossers who give us a bad name as a club, annoy, harass and attack innocent fans. The problem with justifying groups like this is that to me, in my experience, many of the kind that get carried along display the same 'pack' mentality as the group who were convicted yesterday of kicking a utd fan half to death on Chorley station. For every 'casual' who is just into his clothes and having a laugh and a drink with his mates, there seems to be at least 5 burberry clad numpties tagging along with them to look hard. If all these people are truly innocent then fair enough but already there are posts on this thread saying I wouldn't mess with him so i'll ask you are they all really innocent.
-
Strictly speaking they have done nothing wrong? That's like saying strictly speaking OJ Simpson isn't a murderer. If you want to allow these people to hide behind technicalities then fine but to me your just apologising for people that should know better and are tarring the image of the club. If I had a pound for every time i'd heard someone say that these individuals only fight with like-minded people then i'd be a rich man. However if I had to give a pound for every innocent fan to have been hit, harrassed or just abused then i'd be bankrupt. discuss

So we answer your question but you ignore all the other valid ones that people have asked of you, seems about right.

I'll tell you what, start speaking English and we'll be able to get somewhere.

Considering the stage of the season and the games we've played I would think that as long as Hughes makes a good impact we should be able to expect mid-table. I disagree that we haven't got the quality, I just don't think they were playing well or with enough motivation. Whilst we are no world beaters anymore a quick look at some of the other teams shows where we should be challenging and to me it's not 17th. -

I've heard a few comments comparing him to Kidd and apart from the united connection I can't see it. Kidd was a decent coach but had failed twice before as a manager. He never gained the respect of players and most importantly he was clueless. I'll never forget those days just sitting watching charge around ranting and raving it was truly scary. The only time I was impressed on the bench was when he tried to land one on pinocchio. Fair enough we can't know what to expect from Hughes to a certain extent but I can't see the link to Kidd. -

I think my 1st choice would have been Strachan but i'm still delighted. Of course it's a risk but the fact that i'm dancing around says it all, i'm excited, optimistic and looking forward to Saturday. Can't tell you how long ago I last felt like that. -
Your a disgrace in my opinion. You should support the team no matter who is in charge you fairweather supporter. You take Rovers for granted, yet there are so many (like myself) who would love to be able to get to see Blackburn every other week. Take a look at Roversworld and watch the brfcn.com lads travelling all the way from oslo for a match, yet you cant even be bothered to get to Ewood and you live in Blackburn. V.poor Firstly Jan doesn't live in Blackburn. Secondly whilst I don't agree with not going because of the manager it says more about Jan's feelings on the man than it does about her loyalty. Thirdly people miss games, it happens because they have lives outside of football. Get over yourself.

As 1864 says we almost certainly will have interviewed him, however without permission. We can't simply appoint him so if we want him we have to ask for permission. Unless the Welsh FA refused there was nothing else the conference could have been about. It should be done and dusted by tomorrow now as Rovers wouldn't have approached the Welsh if it wasn't already a done deal. That all sounds a little bass ackwards if you ask me. First we interview him and THEN we ask permission to speak with him. Hmm... novel concept, I might try it. Take a day off work and upon your arrival the next day ask your Boss if it's ok to have yesterday off?? Might work Because football is just like real life after all isn't it? Do you really think clubs ask permission before speaking to a player they want to sign, or a new manager? Ever heard of a player being tapped up?

He didnt criticise the police for bringing the banning orders against the idiots, just the way that they had done it. I totally understand that If you totally understand that then why highlight it then. What is the point you are trying to make. The police are incompetent? No argument from me. Football hooligans should be left to their own devices as they cause no real harm do they? rollocks.

Couldn't agree more Ste. Notice a father and son in that list, aww it makes you proud doesn't it.
-
I'd be most inclined to believe option 1 Paul. Rovers will have already spoken to Hughes before going through the process of requesting permission from the Welsh FA. It saves time as they would then know if he was interested and what his plans were. Do you think Newcastle requested permission to talk to Souness? As for taking everything his agent said as accurate, if an agent said it was raining i'd go outside and check.

Moyes was a strong runner in the press and a few rumours. I can't honestly believe he would leave Everton now when there finances seem to be improving and they are doing well in the league. Certainly couldn't see him leaving them for us.

Betting now suspended everywhere now.

Hughes is a big name but not as a manager so won't command massive wages I wouldn't think. To suggest he is dithering is just guesswork and quite frankly unhelpful. You don't know, I don't know, in fact very few people really know what's gone on so it's unfair to accuse him of that. As for tactically, all I can say is that the only other home nation I enjoy watching is Wales, in fact it tends to be more enjoyable than England as there is no pressure. The main reason is because they play exciting football or at least they have done when i've watched them. Players like Davies, Koumas, Giggs & Speed all bombing forward plus he tends to deploy Bellamy wide as well. If he uses the aerial threat of Hartson, well he won't be the first or last, it's called playing to your strengths. The players clearly respect and enjoy playing for him and you can see the team spirit there. That's what we need rather than a big collection that look like they don't know each other. The only thing we can't know about Hughes is his transfer acumen and that may not be such an issue anyway, at least not at first. Let's worry about getting out of this mess first. His backroom staff that I know are Bowen and Niedzwicki (sp?). Bowen was doing well at Birmingham which was why Bruce stopped him from working with Wales so Bowen left to go full-time. The other fella is a former Chelsea keeper so don't know if is a goalie coach or what. I hope Jim is right but still don't know why he can't be in charge for Saturday. Hopefully he will be in the stands with his son and that will have the desired effect.

I suspect it's because there are other people still to be interviewed. I don't think it's cut and dried at all yet. It'll be like any job recruitment - whoever has the best interveiw will get the job. Gay bikers on acid. I know what you mean but surely with football management it's a bit different. You have a shortlist and go for your targets in that order, like Newcastle did. Fair enough you interview them but it's not like a normal job is it.
-
The LET is saying that Hughes had a meeting with Rovers officials yesterday and the club will approach the Welsh FA in the next few days. Why not now? We have a massive match on Saturday, if he's the no1 target then get him now. Cockney wide-boy stowed away on the ferry.

Actually according to Newell he was sacked because he refused to put up with interference from the Chairman. He said that the Chairman wanted to be involved in all decisions but Newell wouldn't have it hence the sacking. I'm not sure i'd be all that keen on Newell but he is doing a great job at Luton and comes across very well.

That's me not looking forward to Saturday then.

[Archived] Newcastle 3-0 Blackburn Rovers
Manchester Blue replied to Roaming Rover's topic in Football Messageboard Archive
Well said. As bad as the midfield and Flitcroft undoubtably were, they were not the fundamental or only problem. There were fundamental problems all over the pitch - front to back. Exactly you couldn't pick on one area and say that's why we lost, we were poor everywhere. The fact that Newcastle were playing in front of a new manager whilst ours were going through the motions was biggest difference. Remember the Plymouth game when Kenny was announced. The players all of a sudden looked world beaters. Let's just hope we have a new man in place this week or it will start to look pretty dire indeed. -
Fair enough I misunderstood your point and I apologise. I would prefer Strachan also but as Hughes has never managed at club level then he would be surely a bigger risk.
-
Oh for god's sake wake up. I'm repeating myself now but what does Wenger teach the players on the training ground. He tells them what he wants he doesn't have to show them same as Mourinho. If you want a manager they can all watch then we should get Hoddle. Stories from Spurs & Soton used to be about how he used to shout at them all and say no you should do it like this. Is that what you really want? A good manager does not have to have been a good player, in fact most of the best were not.
