Are you trying to say that you would have expected us to lose out on a signing to West Brom prior to Venky's taking over? It's a fact that we've fallen a long way since then, times have changed. People are allowed to be disappointed in our change of circumstances. I am not calling West Brom a nothing team but we've swapped places and that is disappointing.

I had this realisation earlier when I saw Rich's article. It really hit home how far we have fallen that we can't even beat West Brom to a signing. Even more so, how disappointed I am that we won't be signing a defender from Wigan!

I agree with this mostly. Even just having him on a bench as one ‘back up’ is something we should be doing. Get a starting CB in and have Wharton as back up and we’re not in bad shape. Wharton has to be given the chance now or he’ll end up going and we’ll most probably regret it again.

Was saying earlier how I didn’t feel he had made a position his own because Mowbray hasn’t found where to put him. I know it’s only a friendly but looks like this could be the one for him.

Happy to see BB behind a front two for sure. You're right about Holtby and Rothwell. Holtby playing as a false 9 did not make for good viewing - Mowbrays fault more than his own but I am yet to see Holtby make a position his own which is frustrating because I think he could/should have.

Maybe he plans on using BB or SG in their 'natural' position? They have to do better playing up top, they're not going to score any goals playing out of position, we have proof of that. If he puts them up top and they don't get us the goals then hopefully it's Mowbray who is in the firing line. He has to put his neck on the line here! On the other hand, Armstrong up top will provide us with the goals. Graham didn't particularly offer us goals last season but his presence and hold up play will be missed. SG HAS to step in to that role.

I see where tomphil is coming from to some extent. He looks like a solid addition on paper but I know that our goalkeeping coaching isn’t very good. I hope that doesn’t hinder him like it has done so with others in recent times!
