  1. Richard Prew, defending, said when the tickets were purchased Hilton wasn't aware exactly where they were for. "For the vast majority of the game he sat quite peaceably," said Mr Prew." "There was little worth watching on the pitch and he and his friends decided to leave. Ten minutes early, I'll bet...
  2. Probably, the ball came from that side and Job poked it in from about a yard as he was falling over. I also stood on a dead mouse on the way to the ground, I just remembered. What a fun day that was.
  3. The worst goal I ever saw against us was scored by Joseph Desiree Job (that's probably spelled wrongly) for Boro at the Riverside, I forget exactly what season it was, but maybe 4-5yrs ago. It was David Thomson's debut for us, I remember that - and he had a great game. We dominated from start to finish, hit the post a couple of times, and the bar, and they bundled the ball over our line in extra time to win 1-0. Of course the silent home fans started singing and doing that clapping thing they do up there, like they were Brazil or something. I remember the bloke behind me smashing his seat as we walked out, and my mate (who's first Rovers game it was) not daring to say anything to me as we went back on the long train ride up to Scotland. In fact, his second game was our 5-1 away demolition at Newcastle - and he's coming down to watch the Man City game in September at Ewood, so watch out Blackburn. Maybe I'll just leave him in the Brown Cow.
  4. I don't speak a word of German, but their forum is pretty amusing stuff. Salzburg forum discussion about Rovers
  5. They got to the UEFA Cup Final in 1994 according to that Wiki link. I didn't know that
  6. So I've got a 1 in 5 chance of not having to fly anywhere. Hearts at Murrayfield would be great, we'd get loads of away fans up here.
  7. Ahn scores - wouldn't you know it...
  8. Blimey - it looks like a ski jump with a football pitch at the bottom!
  9. This is an amazing piece of work - Bert Kassies is one Dutchman with a lot of free time... I've never heard of half those teams on there - Tobol Kustanai anybody? F91 Dudelange? That one sounds like an obscure sportscar. I'd like to hear Craig Bellamy say "Yeah, I think we can go to Hafnarfjardar and get a result" Although Gretna would be handy for me...
  10. If we get a penalty on Saturday there I will well and truly ###### myself
  11. Well maybe - although he did win plenty of trophies with Liverpool, so his record wasn't all that bad. He did buy some shockers though. And as for paranoid managers - only RFW himself is more paranoid than Mr. Souness??
  12. I agree with you Rich - I've yet to read a convincing argument why Houllier would be a disaster for Rovers. If someone wants to post one, please do! He can't possibly be worse than Venables/Hoddle/Graham etc
  13. The Newcastle fans are utterly raging. The moderator of howaythetoon.com has just resigned and is deleting the website. They know how to mope, don't they? Blimey... That's it for me, I will no longer be attending any NUFC matches home or away for the foreseeable future nor shall I continue running this website. My reasons? I've lost that passion I have, that passion that forces me to get up in the mornings to maintain this website. I now no longer care. A disease is running through our club and something is seriously wrong. This will only get worse and not better. I am not going to sit by and pay for it. I have a few things in the pipeline that will allow me to do the things I want to do such as swimming with the Great White Shark, a lifetime ambition of mine. I don't need to waste my life sitting at a desk reporting on a team that is managed by people who, lets just say, don't have OUR best interests at heart. I will follow NUFC via radio and always look out for OUR reults and of course OUR club will always remain in my heart and I hope Souness and all the other good things about OUR club have the success it deserves, not least of all my fellow supporters. I've had enough. For me it's all about passion and I can't get passionate about a disease that is rotting our club, more to the point I will not contribute towards it with my pockets. The club will always be here, the @#/?s that ruin it won't.
  14. Grabbi will be looking up Newcastle in his atlas...
  15. Gordon Strachan - although I still feel he's the new Scotland boss Ottmar Hitzfeld - won't come to Rovers in a thousand years, surely Paul Sturrock - who my money's on, although I'd rather not Mark Hughes - my overall favourite, I think he's ready for club management Gerard Houllier - Not the best choice, but could be worse David Moyes - soon to be let go by Everton, he's alright I think Terry Ven...I can't even bring myself to type it.
  16. Reading the howaythetoon forums - the Geordies aren't happy in the slightest. They all wanted Ottmar Hitzfeld, by the look of it. Maybe Rovers will get Sven Goran Erikson this time round... !
  17. I agree with the point that Barry Ferguson will be gone in January, as will a few other Souness favourites - maybe Friedel, Tugay, Neill, Stead (hope not). Souness pulled us from the First division and brought us into Europe, and for that I thank him. It was a shock that he left so suddenly - but I suppose the other managers in the running were ruled out quickly and he jumped at presumably a very good offer from Newcastle. The Geordies aren't happy because he's a Scot who favours physical play - he reminds them of Dalgleish who broke up their favourite side of recent years. As for us, I hope we get Strachan (although as I hear it up here he's going to Scotland after Vogts gets the boot). Please please God help us, not Houllier or Venables. Realistically manybe Sturrock or Moyes might get the job - there's a few managers out there at the moment. Certainly stunned this morning though - came right out of the blue
  18. I can think of a fourth D - defence! Duff and Dunn's departure decided downturn doubled with dodgy defensive dealings demanded derision from despicable doomsayers, damn dingles, and deserted Darwen End. Despite decline, Dowie definately doesn't deserve directing...(erm)..Rovers. the solution - read the badge! Arte et labore
  19. We already tried that once! I wonder if message boards at Bolton, Middlesbrough or Leeds are having a similar discussion about the future of their managers. Maybe they're more optamistic than we seem to be...Panic is not the answer at this stage.
  20. Absolutely - well done to Celtic for going through, but that's where it stops. We didn't follow the progress of Lyon after they knocked us out, so why should we follow Celtic's? Actually I have no choice as I live in Scotland and Celtic are talked about 24-7 up here. Even the Daily Ranger has Martin O'Neal on the back page every day. Before the game the BBC Scotland reporter said to camera 'It'll be a hard game, but if Celtic play like they did at Blackburn they'll go through'. People up here seem to have selective memories - he should have added 'But if they play like they did at Parkhead against Blackburn they'll get gubbed'
  21. We didn't say Scottish people are drunk and violent - just a minority of those Celtic fans that came to Blackburn. I live North of the border - people here are great Don't confuse supporter's confidence with arrogance - it's an easy thing to say about any English-Scottish game, but wouldn't you have been confident of going through after the first leg the way we played? That's common sense, mate. And I for one think that Rangers-clad idiot should be banned. Well done Celtic. There, i said it.
  22. Yeah it was a let-down, but that's football for you. Fair play to Celtic, they deserved to go through - I wouldn't say overall we lost to the better team - but they did what we didn't and took their chances. Writing off the entire team after one bad result seems a bit harsh to me - remember Parkhead? Ok so we lost there too, but the team showed what it can do. Hopefully this will teach us to produce and end-product to our pretty passing we're capable of. From some of the posts here I may be in the minority but that idiot in the Rangers kit deserves to be banned - you can't have people running onto the pitch like that. Especially not when we're about to curl a free-kick into the top corner! It should also be easy to work out who sold their tickets to away fans and stop them from buying at Ewood again. I know this happens in most football grounds, but that's no excuse, it's been happening at Rovers for years - I remember going to an Ewood game against Bolton about 5 years ago and the bloke on my left turned and asked me who I was supporting! Anyway, maybe we got a touch of stage fright - the nuts and bolts of Everton at home should see us right...(but I'll get my lucky pants out anyway)
