There was a reference earlier in this thread to our Pod (Episode 93) that covered this in some detail but I’ll try & summarise briefly & with no jargon...

All references to June 2017 a/cs of course...

    In a nutshell:-

    TRADING

Turnover is down by a third as parachute payments ended.

Costs have been significantly reduced but not quite in line with t/o.

Losses have been reduced by positive impact of player sales.

Interest costs have reduced by two-thirds as much of the debt has effectively moved from the bank (who charge interest of course) to the parent company (which does not).

All in all - loss of £3.7m recorded for 2017 - up from £1.5m in 2016.

    ASSETS & LIABILITIES

Total creditors (money owed) stood at £114m up slightly from £112m

BUT less of it owed to the bank, extra £7m owed to Venky parent - on balance this is a good thing, better to be in hock to the parent than the bank I would say.

    Of the £114m - £95m owed to V’s

    So what ?

V’s are undertaking good housekeeping to manage a difficult position (I know they got themselves into it...this isn’t an opinion piece BTW ?)

2017/18 will probably reveal decreased t/o given the relegation - less TV money, sponsorships, corporates, ticket sales etc.

Promotion opens up increased possibility for s/t income, TV, sponsorship, commercial etc

FFP rules are frankly impenetrable...made even more complex if you move between Championship & League 1...which we’ve just done twice - as the rules are different in each.

V’s can still cover part of any losses with share capital (rather than loans) in the Championship, but it’s not as easy as in League 1. What is not up for debate is that Championship clubs FFP is based more around turnover and profitability....and so to that extent, increased spend by fans in Ewood in whatever form can only help the FFP calculation and give the club less of a headache.

Finally, whilst we will earn more TV money etc, I suspect large parts of that increased income will be swallowed up with improved player contracts etc. If we expect them to take a hit after a relegation,  chances are their agents will expect the reverse after a promotion...?

Hope that helps....but listen to the pod, read this & then pose whatever questions you might have & I’ll have a stab....but Not FFP...I cant make head nor tail of the EFL site ?

Thanks for that, but where is this story of 250m in debt coming from some 3/4 pages back, i thought it a bit odd.

Mowbray's quote was taken out of context but what he was saying is that Rovers will come under embargo if the club's revenues do not improve in the future.

    That's a pretty important story.

Well that must be similar to probably half the championship teams especially the ones who have spent over their heads.

You posted appeared after Kamy’s - slighting Kamy’s reputation and anyone who listens to him.

Yes, I can tell the time.

Yep your right, i didn't see Kamy's post so my bad, but i was right in my original post that people should have ALL the facts before putting a post on here like he did, he could have waited the extra couple of hours to confirm that he had made other inquiries and that the headline was totally out of context to TM's comments. Now we all know the situation,  but Kamy's original post put a spoke in a good feel factor and put many on here in negative mood.

Glad you can tell the time,

There is a direct quote from Mowbray.  All the club needs to do is ask him  !

There is an alleged direct quote, there's a massive difference, blimey you lot dont half hang onto Kamy's posts, even if Kamy is only trying to pass on information. I dont believe for one minute this is true.

So get promoted and a step up to where he'd be a bit part player THIS season and another years mileage on the body that's a big risk, speaks volumes Warnock as experienced as he is lets him leave easily. 1+1 year contract would have been advisable with the second year optional at the clubs desire.

Seems another potentially big financial liability to carry

Mark Hughes, Kevin Moran are two i can think off that were great for us coming to the end of their careers at a similar age oh and that was in the old second division not third, judge on performance not on age.

Oops should have read the rest of the thread, no matter others have the same idea. Good signing good start

His record with money was virtually 100 percent.

freebies some were nominal outgoings like petshi, some made money like koita and some provided experience like varney, some were key like kilgallon who we should have kept knowing we were selling both Duffy and Hanley. He's better than a Lenihan or Greer.

some were just @#/? like delfouneso but what can you do when your reduced to scrapping around.

Lets not forget he did have money to play with for what at least six transfer windows, in my opinion Bowyer had the best opportunity to get us at least the playoffs, he couldn't do it,  Looking at Mowbarys record so far with a team 100% less skillful than what Bowyer had, i reckon he would have easily got that team we had into the playoffs, But it's all if's and buts,  all gone,  so we start again.

Take the rose tinted glasses off. Barnsley championship, I doubt we will go up this year. So a higher league, higher monies and to play for a club which isn't a frickin circus.

tough one! Mowbray best manager in years? He's just relegated us.

Bloody hell its now Mowbrays fault we got relegated, i thought you talked some sense, f all to do with Coyle then

Wouldn't be at all surprised if we have offered him a lower wage and don't qualify for compo. If his current contract has a Championship wage and a League One wage then it would still represent a pay cut in real terms for Mahoney.

Fits and starts? This lad is at the start of his career and will develop. Of course he won't be the finished article.

Better than the club? Ego? Tell you what, have a chat with the lad and get back to me. A more humble person you will struggle to find. What has happened for Rovers and for him will have torn his heart out. But at the end of the day, Venkys do not value players or understand football. We have downgraded season on season and will continue to do so.

I wish him well. He certainly deserves better than to be messed about by Venkys' Rovers - and that's on top of being messed about by Coyle.

Okay Stuart some of your replies are a little strange to me, you say he is humble, well it dosen't appear that way, TM has been quoted as saying he has had several chats about PLAYING FOOTBALL not sat on his arse somewhere, had his heart ripped out, well who gave him his chance, stay one more season and repair that shattered heart, we all know Coyle was and is a keaner TM is a genuine football man with more knowledge than most, yet our local lad isn't interested, so its money above football. Hey i'm not falling out with you or anyone on here just peeved off like everyone else. We now have the best manager in years, lets see what happens. Oh and if Mahoney does leave for cough Barnsley well enough said. He should aim for a team heading to the PL not one that will surely struggle next season.

  9. Wow all this hand ringing for a player that plays in fits and starts, its not Rovers at fault its him and his agent, he was given a platform the latter end of the season, did he score any goals - i dont think so.

suddenly he thinks he's bigger than the club, if he wont listen to what  TM has to say his ego has got the better of him. Like many in the past that leave and think they are better off he will fade into the darkness, i even think if he goes to another championship club he sooner or later will be loaned out to league 1.

  10. I know Stanley do try very hard to get more people into the ground, but even this season they have been struggling massively for numbers.

The Orient game was on Good Friday when Rovers and Burnley didn't have a game, and Orient took about 700, so there were probably about 700-800 more Stanley fans on than usual which is clearly very important for them but probably not normal. Then the game against Cambridge when they had just over 2000 on but that included a few hundred from Cambridge and then several hundred local football teams who were given tickets in the Coppice End for the game.

Even having been in the top 7 all season Stanley's home gates have rarely got beyond 1300. It just shows what a brilliant job is being done there when they are up against the likes of Portsmouth and Plymouth who get 10,000+ every week.

Okay this is just a question after my comments, all the debate about venkys not backing Lambert and no money etc, why are they spending quite a small fortune on this 3D pitch thingy at the Darwen end.

  11. His achievements at Mainz, too, were remarkable before their downfall. Their first Bundesliga appearance and their first UEFA Cup qualification :)

Okay I was only making a hypothetical scenario, I worked in Germany so know how big the team was/is, My point was the fans and the team seem to be united, as i remember we were in our promotion season with Flitcroft, Jansen, souey etc, and we need to get that back, how, well thats the million dollar question, if we got that feeling back then we would be getting somewhere.

  12. People can only stay positive for so long mate. You get bombarded with negativity day after day and eventually even the positive things are just footnotes on an overall negative page.

I wouldn't begrudge anybody taking some pleasure out of last night's result, absolutely not. But at the same time those who can't feel anything positive about the club right now are totally right to feel that way as well. When you consider the bigger picture, it's difficult to find much joy in winning a single match, whether it is a big step towards survival or not.

The only way to move forward as a united fanbase in a positive fashion, IMO, is for Venky's, Agnew, Shaw and Shebby to leave the club and never make themselves heard from again. Until that happens a dark cloud will hang over Ewood - and to be honest, I fear the club will soon be eradicated entirely should Venky's stay much longer. That fear casts a long shadow over pretty much everything else happening at the club, from the games themselves to the interaction between the fans both on match day and in general.

Then lets take a leaf out of Borussia Dortmumd i think 5 years ago they were nearly bankrupt, looked to me last night like the players and fans interact a fantastic atmosphere at the end of the game, i am not saying we can be the same but maybe the club needs to look at how they managed to get where they are, Schuster perhaps.

  13. If should ediniho start is the question than Goodwilie should while he iis our only fit striker.

What do you mean in English speak please :rover:

Okay I get the idea, but really the lad from Portugal who by all accounts is dreadful, I reckon Goodwillie has a point, if only 75% fit he would be better than Ediniho. Goody probably needs to eat more sardines and speak Portuguese that would fox Coco. :wstu: (meaning Coco of course).
