Can anyone explain in simple terms this Lance Armstrong thing? As I understand it he hasn't failed a drugs test - I'm assuming at his peak he must have been on of the most frequently tested athletes on the planet - so what is the evidence against him?

All the best to you and your family John.

Fair question Dirk. The more I think about this the harder I find it to know what to think. Someone posted on Twitter earlier that they find it hard to applaud someone that chose to die and leave two young sons behind. I can definitely understand people feeling that way.
Until more comes out its hard to know what to make of it.

Please don't use this as a place to renew old rivalries. Let it go.

In a strange way this thread has made me smile today.

It's not a weakness, it's a strength to do something about it. I know that sounds like crap but it's the case - its way harder to tell someone about it than it is to sit on it.
You don't have to take medication, you'd be amazed how much just talking to an adequately qualified and experienced person can help. There's many options, have a look in to it and see if any of them can help you.
Sorry to lecture you. Please don't suffer in silence.

i suffer from depression from time time, sometimes i even think about the S word but i would never do it as i know of the heartache and distress it would cause my family if i did, i also have thoughts that maybe there a happier times around the corner so that keeps me going, i either have real highs or real lows, just something that you cant help, i think boredome plays a big part too.
Have you been to see your doctor? If not please do. They can help, I promise. There's so many things you can try, even if it doesnt feel like they work straight away over time they can, until one day you get through a whole day without thinking about it. Those days become weeks, which in turn become months, and, touchwood, years.
There are things you can do, don't be afraid to ask. Good luck friend.

Why doesn't it make sense?
Mental illness has affected those with power, glory, wealth- say Winston Churchill to your man struggling to pay his bills in a bedsit.
It doesn't discriminate.
I think Chris's point is that no one saw this coming and there were no outward clues. For a guy who has been in the spotlight for over 20 years in the most popular sport in the country, you'd expect someone somewhere to have an inkling.
Many people feel very close to this, myself included, and Speed never played for any of my clubs or my country. It's natural to seek understanding and closure to help with the grieving process.

Depression? Terminal illness?
I keep reading he had two boys but there's no mention of a wife.
It's about time this country started taking mental health more seriously.

I hope whatever the poor guy was going through he is now free from. Devastated for his family.

Here's one to make you feel old - remember Bebeto's famous cradle rocking celebration during World Cup 94?

Wouldn't surprise me if the bald idiot brought the guvnor in as asst, could you imagine?
I think you've just given me an aneurysm.

Surely under the terms of his release he wont be able to talk about any of that?

It's like giving everyone food poisoning then sacking the bottle washer.

I don't think anyone thinks its the best movie ever, but it is by far the most quotable.
They've done studies, you know.

Went to see Warwickshire at the 20/20 today, and Keith Barker played a blinder. He was hopeless with the bat, as were everyone, but he finished with figures of 4-17, and had a hat trick. He's pretty a huge fast bowler and was the best bowler in the game.
Is that the lad that used to play up front for the youth team with Joe Garner?

Saw Devil last night. Decent idea, plot like Swiss cheese.

Kuyt to Inter could happen at around £10-11 million.
£11-12 million too much.

On a related note though, who the hell decided that Tugay and Zura were surplus to requirements at Ibrox? They need firing, pronto.
Dick Advocaat. By name and by nature.

A few nights ago I dreamt I was being pursued by Darth Vader, seriously spooked me
Weird. If I were you I'd Luke in to that.

Sometimes I've dreamt that I'm reading some meaningless drivel, which just endlessly repeats itself, going round and round in circles - I then realise that I've clicked on the latest transfer thread on the main board. It's a scary place!
This one is just as relevant, 4 years later.

Bas Rutten at the start of this vid - NUTTER!
El Guapo - absolute legend and totally off his rocker.

Amen, brother.

I agree. "Face Off" and "Broken Arrow" reinvented that man.
Pulp Fiction started that ball rolling.
He's brilliant in Face/Off and Broken Arrow. I liked him in Swordfish too.

Why hasn't he failed a test before now then? He must have taken hundreds of them?
Out of interest O2G, do you believe he's guilty?
