  1. Anyone else seen Shutter Island yet?

Thought that was brilliant, don't want to go into too much detail without ruining it for others but certainly has you guessing most of the way through just to how it's all going to link together, it's fairly obvious that everything isn't quite as it seems but it's hard to piece everything together. Definitely recommended, it's not just a good film in terms of storyline but also a great piece of film in general, Scorsese really is one of, if not the best.

Watched it three times now, so many little bits I've picked up on now and noticed that I didn't see the first time.

I havent but saw an ad for it last night, it looks brilliant. Definitely will now I've read your views. Cheers!

  2. First of all I want to express how deeply saddening this event is. It's not just the fact that a man has died, but that he has left a kid behind. For me, there are few things more tragic. My condolences go out to those on here that knew him. I have to say, I think I might have seen him at games in the past - his face looks familiar.

I am also curious, however, and want to know a little more before I reach any wrong assumptions: am I right in thinking that, in reaction to the bar being closed at half time, Rovers fans became rowdy and ended up throwing a bin, which hit John Taylor on the head and subsequently killed him? This story about him trying to 'head it', being rubbish?

If true, then I hope this event will make people think twice before they engage in yobbish behaviour and drink beyond their limits.

I'm hoping that the time to speculate has passed, maybe its time to leave the pursuit of facts up to the relevant authorities, and pray that they manage to piece it all together. Whichever scenario is the truth, the same important lessons need to be learned by certain members of our support. There can be no hiding behind speculation.

Its not a time to blame, its a time to learn.

  3. I know, it's such a surreal, pathetic way to go.

    It's not sinking in.

Feeling the same way Bryan but it's an emotion that's so hard to put in to words. No offence intended, but surreal and pathetic sums it up for me, too.

  4. As I understand it a policeman at the ground told fans that he tried to head the bin, so you can see where they got that from.

Fully agreed on the points made regarding coverage of this and the John Terry story.

All pales into insignificance though when you consider we've lost one of our own and a family has lost a son/brother/father/partner. It was just so avoidable. God bless you John.

  5. How can you even think that? Please explain to all of us that don't follow the logic in your statement how exactly do people think that throwing a bin around in a crowd of people is "just acting the goat" or "just having a laugh" or any of the other pathetic excuses that are routinely trotted out today for what is actually criminally irresponsible loutish behaviour. How ANYONE can even begin to imagine that this sort of behaviour is "just fun" is beyond belief, and shows yet again just how far down the road to ruination society has gone over the last 50 years or so.

Seriously Sambo I am genuinely interested in hearing what you have to say by way of explanation and how you arrived at the conclusion you stated above (in bold).

In your desperation to be outraged you have completely misread/misinterpreted what Sambo said.

Anyway, good to hear the lad is still with us, fingers crossed he pulls through and certain members of our travelling support learn their lesson without the need for tragedy.

  6. I actually don't think Benni has harmed us by doing this, quite the opposite in fact.

If he doesnt want to play for us then he can sit at home doing nothing until the Summer, missing out on the World Cup. In the meantime, we don't pay him, and fine him two weeks wages every time we can. Then we use the wages we aren't paying him to get a loan in. Easy.

The last thing we should do is allow him to go to a relegation rival.

  7. Good. Roberts is infuriating. Every so often he'll come off the bench and play a blinder, which means he starts the next two or three games...then he's invariably useless. He'll then go back on the bench for a few weeks, come off the bench eventually, have another good game and start the whole process over again. His whole career with us has been that way.

At least when Benni starts he plays as well as he does in his cameos.

Can't agree with that last sentence at all, infact I think what you've said about Roberts applies just as well to Benni. Aside from his first season he's been going through the cycle you describe. The only addition is that during his periods on the bench Benni gets fat.

  8. Can't believe this wasn't brought back to the top after Saturday. Benni was absolutely outstanding in my view against Liverpool. He played the Dunn role differently to Dunny, but just as effectively, he hardly wasted a ball and some of his touches were exquisite.

When he plays like that its a no brainer that he must stay. Just wish it happened more often.

  9. Anyone had a chance to watch Law Abiding Citizen?

Trailer looks decent, haven't heard any reviews on it though.

Very very good. Best thriller I've seen in ages. Clever and witty with a very edgy dark side. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Gerard Butler is fantastic. I had my doubts as to whether he'd be believable, but he really was. The line from the trailer when said in the context of the film is great -

"Here's the deal. Release me by 6am"

    "Or what?"

    "Or I kill EVERYONE"

    Brilliant.

  10. Real imaginative stuff. Ooooh, we're all doomed. Why is it so many films these days leave me cold?

Now if it'd been called 2010 it might've got people's attention, but 2012 is bloody years away!

Gran Torino arrived from love Film today, will watch it later, looking forward to a bit of the ol' Big Clint.

Have you noticed that in most 'end of the World' movies the President is black?

    We are doomed.

  11. Why is it our team is 4-5-1 with Dunn in the team, yet would be considered 4-4-2 if McCarthy was in it, despite the fact they would both play in the same position?

I agree with the point you're making but I'm going to play devils advocate anyway.

Dunny has an upper limit as to how far forward he'll get - for example he'll never be lurking at the back post for a tap in, which considering the position he is supposed to be playing is probably fair enough. On the other hand Dunny will drop far back to get the ball and help out the midfield, as far as our final defensive third on some occasions. Benni however will likely be on hand for that tap in, but be much less likely to track back.

Circa 75% of the time they would be occupying very similar territory, but the other 25% they will be going in completely opposite directions. Thus making Benni playing closer to 4-4-2 than when Dunny is on.

    In theory.
