  1. I watched Juno over the weekend, anyone seen it? I went out and bought the DVD on the strength of the title character featuring in the 100 Greatest Movie Characters list a few pages back. Ellen Page is absolutely superb, cutting, witty and absolutely hilarious. A rarity in thats its a film full of young persons vernacular that isn't solely aimed at young people.

    Highly recommended.

EDIT: Just searched the thread and there's already a bit of dicussion about the film. Apologies, didn't check first.

  2. I am surprised people do not think the original Die Hard is the best. It has everything including one of the best villains in any action move. Great one-liners. The third is good as well and I liked the most recent one but it did not really feel like a Die Hard movie for some reason. Probably as Willis is so much older now. The second was the weakest I thought.

To be honest thats why I liked 4 - I didnt expect it to feel like a Die Hard movie, and at the start it didn't, but it doesnt take long for Willis to give you that feel. Probably the "you just killed a helicopter with a car" moment that seals it.

  3. I think Die Hard 2 was better, but Alan Rickman really made the character of Gruber.

Gruber "This time John Wayne does not walk into the sunset with Grace Kelly"

    Mclane "That's Gary Cooper a$$hole"

You liked Die Hard 2 better? I'm amazed at that - great film but the weakest of the 4 in my opinion.

Die Hard's got to be in my top ten, god knows how many times I've watched it.

Ditto, I went out and found the "Quadrilogy" box set a while back, great purchase.

Big fan of the Die Hard series. The first is definitely in my top 10 films.

    Personally i'd rank them:

    Die Hard

    Die Hard 2

    Die Hard 4

    Die Hard 3

Wasn't really a fan of three, i liked certain elements of it but overall it just didn't have that appeal that the others had.

I'm very surprised at this, Die Hard 3 is my favourite. Its just an excellent twist and Irons is good as Gruber's brother. Not as good as Hans, but Samuel L Jackson makes up for that. The opening "game" he has McClane play is real jaw-dropping stuff when the camera pans out and you see what he's wearing.

Definitely. Apparently that reaction was real - the director instructed the stuntman to drop Rickman early (on the count of two rather than three).

    Good trivia!

I really like Die Hard but I can't help but be sceptical of anything Bruce Willis is in these days. Tough guy, he is not.

Get out. Anything with Bruce Willis in is awesome. Including Hudson Hawk.

I hated Die HArd 2, because it got so many things wrong that I couldnt get past those to enjoy the film.

Get a life cadet boy, its Die Hard!!

Looks like the movie of The A Team is finally being filmed, Liam Neeson as Hannibal Smith and they have kept van the same as the original.

Jessica Biel stars as the General who is persuing The A Team

For the MMA/UFC fans amongst us, Quinton "Rampage" Jackson has been cast to play B.A. Very charismatic guy who could just pull it off.

  4. The 4th one's not half bad either.

My personal favourite Gruber quote is "You asked for miracles Theo, I give you the FBI."

With a nice lengthy pause between the F, B and the I.

    Yeah the 4th is great.

"You just killed a helicopter with a car!!"

    "I was out of bullets"

To expand your Gruber quote slightly -

"The circuits that cannnot be cut are cut automatically in response to a terrorist incident. You asked for miracles, Theo, I give you the F....B...I..."

    Brilliant.

  5. "Mr. Takagi, I could talk about industrialization and men's fashion all day, but I'm afraid work must intrude, and my associate, Theo, has some questions for you."

The whole film's absolutely wicked and #2 was pretty good as well.

apparently "Yippee-kay-ay" means "here, eat this" in Urdu. cool.

My favourite Die Hard is actually the 3rd one, with Jeremy Irons as Gruber's brother. Excellent plot-line that one. In honestly they're all great, harmless fun action flicks. Can't beat it.

I have a theory - if a woman will put up with you shouting out "Yippee-kay-ay" at the moment of climax, she's a keeper. So far I'm right ;)

  6. He definitely made that movie stand out from all of the pretenders that followed.

    "I'm an EXCEPTIONAL thief."

"I wanted this to be professional, efficient, adult, cooperative. Not a lot to ask. Alas, your Mr. Takagi did not see it that way... so he won't be joining us for the rest of his life."

    Gruber was fantastic.

  7. Tyler Durden and Hans Gruber? Seriously?

98 was Charles Foster Kane? Yoda higher then Jack Sparrow or The Dude? ET at 74?

No Dorothy Micheals, Tony Manero, Jake LaMotta, Harry Lime, Oskar Schindler, Tommy DeVito, Blondie or Harry Callahan?

    Fan boy jerk off list.

    Scathing

Callaghan was on the list though. Jake LaMotta isn't a movie character.

  8. I'm not sure how the list was put together, public vote or committee.

Funnily enough The Shining was on Sky Movies today, had never seen it so I watched it. Brilliant. I never realised that the avatar someone has on here of the boy with his head in his hands is from that movie.

Tyler Durden is a superb character, massively memorable and as such probably has a place high on the list. I'm a bit of a cheesy movie fan, so would have liked to see Rocky and John McClane higher up the list.

  9. Regarding Ferguson's ability didn't someone connected with the club - maybe Parkes - place him in the best rovers 11 he'd seen, saying he was one of the most talented individuals he'd seen? Or am I just making that up?

Bit torn on this one, not least cause he's a pillock. He does seem to have ability, and it's a good price. Mind you, if Hughes who kept Bellamy and Savage and the like in line struggled to man manage Ferguson, I think anyone would struggle to, as several rangers bosses have found out.

He was brilliant before he did his knee. Like so many others that injury took his game away to the extent that I'm actually pleased Rangers are getting shot.

Eck should know better, I'm surprised he's taking him.

  10. I wouldn't read too much into that. He's simply keeping his options open and it wouldn't surprise me if he were annoyed at being on the bench while Chris Samba took his spot in the first team.

The only thing I would say is that his reference to his fellow team-mates might not go down too well.

In fairness he's a Champions League winning striker. He's probably right to expect to be picked to play up front before Chris Samba.

I would have thought Sam would have explained the choice to him, but perhaps not.

  11. Chelsea made Barcelona look a poor side over 180 minutes. Not for the first time Ferguson has been exposed tactically.

Managing the same side for 23 years, thats going to happen from time to time.

Good post. There's some strange reactions to this game this morning though, it's like people care more about having a dig at Fergie and United than anything else, i know there's a tribal nature to the game in this country but to try and act like you know more about football than a man who has won.

Is bizarre to say the least, hate the man all you want, but for clueless journalists and some posters on a message board to try and act like they know better is embarrassing.

People forget that Sir Alex also managed at a World Cup finals. He's done it all.

  12. The only downside is his transfer fee - £2 million too much. Barring a 'rabbit out of the hat' signing, we're a bit screwed in terms of replacing him. Still that Hughes' fault and not Ooijer's.

Should be quite an easy one. Ooijer goes out, we sign Seitiridis on a free. Replacement right back and we've retained a bit of fullback/centreback versatility with signing Givet.

As blueblood says, the wages are the key.

Anyway - cheers Andre, all the best.

  13. There's nothing about intent or malice in the rules though, it's just whether it was a clear goal-scoring opportunity or not.

I totally agree with your last point by the way, I don't think players should be sent off when a penalty is also awarded...it's almost like being punished twice. I know a lot of referees don't agree with it either, but unfortunately they have to follow the rules as they are written.

Isn't it a poor offshoot of the "professional foul when clean through on goal" rule? If a player is hacked down deliberately when clean through outside the area, then the red card makes sense as a penalty cannot be given and a free kick outside the area punishes the attacking team more than the defending team. When it happens inside the area it's a totally different kettle of fish, but seems to be applied in the same way.

Agree with the points above, it needs looking at.
