  1. It’s a great bit of business in my opinion and perhaps shows that Broughton is keeping a proper eye on the existing contracts. Buckley has had a dip in form recently, but is a class act and after losing players in the close season, this is a brilliant statement from the club.

You've mentioned two names there that I know quite well. I've played alongside and against Alex and as a young man, I spent many late nights chatting with Jim when we used quiz together.

I always found him to be a lovely, humble but interesting guy and I miss those days.

Jim was a wonderful man, not to mention a great snooker player. He coached my son for a few years, when he was showing some serious promise of perhaps making a living in the sport. It was sad when he passed away and I know the girls took it very badly.

I used to advise Alex and his wife Jan and saw them on a fairly regular basis and last saw them a few years ago when the attended my wife's birthday bash.

Young Wharton reminds me of Gazza when hes travelling with the ball.  What a player this lad can be....a real footballer and a Blackburn lad....none of this gtr Manchester bollards.

Loved his sky interview last night, when he stated he is Blackburn born and bred. It will be great to have two in the first team, once Scott is fit and cheer some proper local heroes.

Don Goodman did the summarising on Sky, he’s excellent… comes across really knowledgeable and balanced and not one for hyperbole.

Described Wharton’s performance as “possibly the best debut I’ve ever seen”, or words to that effect.

That’s exactly what he said and added what a great future this young man will have in the game.

  5. I thought we were in for a hard night in the first ten minutes and expect the same second half. After that we grew into the game, silenced their crowd and took control.

Their defence look very shaky and if we can weather their inevitable charge at the beginning, of the second, we can go on to get more.

Dack and Wharton have been top quality and we have passed them to death at times.

Ale house football is Blackpool tactic, but we have stood up to that so far.

Alex Binnie ended up playing non-league in Rossendale - definitely for Bacup Borough and possibly for the late lamented Rossendale Utd. Still can't believe the first football team I ever saw doesn't exist anymore!

I'm almost certain Alex played for Stanley too.

Pete played in our Orphanage Cup team (Blackburn Council). I have vague memories of Phil Greenhalgh (Great Harwood legend) playing in the same team. Some forward line at that level.  Pete married a Darwen lass from my class at school and he still looks well.

He did marry Christine Kitchin, a Darwen Girl.
