  1. It would appear that the stats back up the assertation that the Italians are the worst buch of divers so far in this tournament. Here is an excerpt from today's Guardian:

"In light of the wayward officiating at this World Cup, which team has given referees the most hassle?" ponders Leo Green.

To best answer your question, Leo, we decided to call upon the all-knowing - if a little geeky - online oracle that is: www.informationbuilders.co.uk/ontheball/ which tells us, through the medium of graphs, statistics and suchlike, that the Italians are the biggest handful for World Cup referees. According to their figures, in the four games Italy have played, they've been guilty of 25 dives (more than any other team), four instances of referee-bullying (only Croatia are greater official tormenters), seven fake injuries and two expulsions.

Australia, however, are the dirtiest side in the tournament thus far. Guus Hiddink's men did little to refute pre-tournament allegations that they were over-aggressive by committing 100 fouls, two more than Ghana, 11 more than Mexico and Holland and 47 more than an angelic Brazil.

  2. For Italy,i would go back to a 4-4-2 with Mcbride and Eddie up top, drop Convey altogether, play Dempsey on the right, move DMB to the left(his stated position)play Donovan as the attacking central MF and leave Reyna as the Defensive central MF.Unfortunately,I believe the options at the back are limited unless you are talking about blooding Conrad against Italy with us needing a result(shudder).Perhaps Bocanegra for Cherundulo.Clearly some changes have to be made by Bruce. This was a WC match and there appeared to be no intensity,no emotion even when we were chasing at 0-1 and 0-2 there was no desparation shown just kind of ho hum lwts knock around the park today boys. Our wide men never went at someone and most are their passes were backwards or square at best. How differnt it might have been if we had pegged back at 1-1 with Reyna's attempt. The display today

was lacking and must be improved if we are to get any points off Italy.Very frustrating to watch.

  3. I didn't know where to put this so I stuck it in this topic. Here on FSC's nightly sports news show they just listed the top list of 2005/2006 TV earnings. This was mentioned in this article on espn.the only reason I bring it up is b/c the TV showed Rovers in 10th spot with 44.1 million dollars (23,618,597 pounds).I did not realize we had earned that much!Good on us.I believe media revenue last year was 21.5 million pounds.Obviously, these numbers pale in comparison to arsenal, chelsea, mufc, etc.Perhaps next year will see these #'s push up toward the top 5 or 6.
