1. This thread (at least the early pages before it got hijacked on the later pages) makes for entertaining reasoning. It is interesting how many predicted BIG CLUB to go down as well as many of you predicted Rovers 6th.As I write this,we still have a mathematical chance at 5th if arsenal can drop points and we beat citeh.Philly, perhaps you can start ciphering to see who was most accurate in their prediction tables? The table makes for fine reading right about now!

  2. There is of course a far easier solution bring back the offside rule. The one we all knew, understood and played to. Imagine trying explain that crap to the missus.

I came home last night looked at my Girlfriend and told her "remember when I tried to explain the offside rule?  Well you were right all along it is just random when they flag"

That is the best explanation I've seen in a while! smile.gif

  3. . ANYBODY GOT HIS NAME AND ADDRESS??

    399896

Barry Sygmuta from north yorkshire is all I could come up with but I did find a referee's forum discussing said offside call and even the referees there can't get a consensus of whether Cisse was offsides or not.How bloody stupid is that?In fact, some of the "referees" on that forum break down the technical info from FIFA chapter and verse and point out that it was a brilliant "no call" of offside.Imagine if this takes place this summer and England are knocked out by such a result. There would be an enormous uproar form the British press about the injustice.it seems in it's efforts to encourage more attacking football,FIFA has made offsides an obtuse rule that no one can ever agree with another about. It is all about opinion.(Another fault of the handball =opinion)Forcing linesmen or AR's as they like to be known to make opinion calls about whether someone is active or not in a split second is a recipe for disaster.

here's the referee forum discussing our incident

  4. I have crashed and burned on this league thingy this year(I did ok last year) and it looks like its a two horse race between Rover6 and whoever is Michael Clarkson's board name. results Jim J and LeChuck have a nice battle brewing though.so often we pick these teams back in the summer and forget about it.though those of you who entered it and forgot would get a laugh looking over your teams and the table.

  5. Here are the top ten crowds as I can find them since the 94/95 season:

    1) Liverpool 24/2/96 30,895

    2) Newcastle 8/5/95 30,545

    3) Fulham 11/5/02 30,487

    4) Man Utd 22/12/02 30,475

    5) Man Utd 12/5/99 30,436

    6) Bolton 3/2/96 30,419

    7) Newcastle 26/12/96 30,398

    8) Man Utd 23/10/94 30,260

    9) Liverpool 13/9/03 30,074

    10) Tottenham 30/12/95 30,004

    (EDIT:FOUND A MATCH V NEWCASTLE 30,717 8/4/96 2nd highest)

Of these crowds, 20 of the top five and 3 of the top 10 have come within the last4 years.Also,3 of the top five are the last home match of the season.Just for yucks and grins, here is the second ten again as i could find it:

    11) Newcastle 31/1/00 29,946

    12) Man city 7/5/00 29,913

    13) Arsenal 15/3/03 29,840

    14) Man Utd 22/8/01 29,836

    15) Arsenal 27/4/96 29,834

    16) Celtic 14/11/02 29,698

    17) Man Utd 1/5/04 29,616

    18) Newcastle 26/12/04 29,271

    19) Liverpool 28/8/02 29,207

    20) Man Utd 22/1/03 29,048

    EDIT MAN UTD 28/9/95 29,843

I'm sure there are holes in these number(meaning some games I've overlooked have a greater attendance than these listed).does anyone know if the club has an official list of the top attended matches?

I was shocked that so many of the second ten are in this decade and not the previous one.

  6. Have I missed the answer to which rover scored for Rovers,Spurs,Rangers and Hearts??

    398052

    QUOTE(Ciren Rover @ Apr 5 2006, 18:09 )

Who has scored for Blackburn, Spurs, Rangers, and Hearts?

    Eddie answered

Does this include own goals? Then it could be someone like Hendry.

That has been the only answer provided and it may very well be correct as I can't come up with anyone who has played for all those 4 clubs in his career.Any other board members ready to weigh in with an answer?

  7. Question for the American viewers, did any of you get as sick as I did hearing about Wigan.

    396395

Absolutely as one sided in the commentary as we can see although to give a small credit Tony Gale did defend Kuqi's goal straight away.Perhaps this will be a wakeup call to the team that every game we must give 100% effort from here on out.I still have faith we can make UEFA cup and with a bit of breaks our way,it is still possible to be CL.

  8. Watching the replay tonight here in the States with the benefit of instant replay of my own choosing and random thoughts(apologize for the length):

*We won alot of corner kicks early but MGP does not seem to put a very intelligent cross in many times and more often thatn not he will have a go at the direct attempt to score(which seems to not make his team mates very happy)

*Wigans first corner should not have been allowed as Savage did not touch the ball and both the mr dowd and the linesman missed it full stop

*at 26 minutes in,Bentley provided a nice cross (his only one !) low across the top of the box which skipped past Sav to Dickov who scuffed his shot which rebounded off a Wigan defender back to Savage who laid off to Dickov who really should have shot but he passed over to Lucas who had his shot blocked out for a corner. At this point mr dowd got really red faced while lecturing Bellamy. He looked genuinely angry did mr dowd !

*31 minutes Dickov is fouled by Scharner and this was really persistent infringement but since he was playing on yellow mr dowd is reluctant to send him marching. So how does this Scharner bloke react to said lecture? On the ensuing free kick by MGP as the ball is floated over and plucked from the air by Filan,Scharner takes out Dickov AGAIN while Dickie is up in the air going for the ball!Penalty claim?you bet.

*MGP's goal was a dubious disallowment as it does not on replay appear Dickov fouls him contact on shoulder to shoulder is slight

*42 minutes Clever through ball to Savage by Dickov

*Stupid foul after a mistake heading the ball by Reis which leads to their first disallowed goal which hits De Zeeuw's arm and Roberts was in an offside position on replay

*First half stoppage time corner came off of Roberts left leg from Zurab but is not seen that way by mr dowd

*Based on the last two games, for me,Dickov doesn't need to start again(I wonder if the nodrog was right in that FSP's agent rebuffed long term overtures form Rovers so Sparky has left him out) for me I'd rather see FSP up top with Bellamy on what little I know

*What a cheeky little back heel from Roberts(cantona will like that for his next NIKE commercial)

*56 minutes the linesman calls Bellamy for a phantom offsides however his shot was saved by Filan anyway

*Roberts swings his elbow intentionally on Neill(Sent off for a similar action earlier this year at Everton i'm told)

*We look very shaky defensively in the first 20 minutes of the second half!

*Bellamy should have done beter with the header in the 66th minute

*69th minute barrelling down on goal,Kuqi...

*How is there not a penalty called in the 71st minute when Bellamy is plainly knocked off his feet chasing the the ball

*73rd minute Oh,Bellamy tough reaction flick type header

74 th minute chimbonda knocks ball out for corner with his hand but not really a penalty claim

*78 th minute Neill beaten but Johanssen missed badly into row Z

*Not a pretty goal but hey we will take it!!By the Way,the announcers ( esp Tony Gale) totally defend the goal and says "Yes, a crunching challenge by Lucas Neill but the keeper had already spilled the ball"

*Could have won it late but we avoided defeat in a game we did not even come close to playing our best in.So here is to full points for us on the South Coast!!

  9. Well done Bob, another ripping yarn. Not too sure about

but I'll take your word for it.

    394686

Nah,the real answer is the 1999 FA Cup v sunderland but what is 67 years among friends ? smile.gif

  10. Reading this it would appear that we may not have Dominic Matteo to kick around next year. For all of the help he has provided I would not be that sorry to see him go.He has only appeared for us 7 times this year and none since the FA cup win back in January.I realise he provides cover for a number of positions on the backline but I suspect his wages are not the cheapest on the squad.cover could be found next year in the form of Taylor,Kane(?) or other youngsters. It will be intersting to watch as Sparky continues to remold and shape our squad next year as we play in Europe!
