Two games in and my main gripe is these bloody short corners which are so unproductive, in fact sometimes handing the initiative to the opponents. As we approached the end of stoppage time in the second half we won a corner. All around me fans were shouting to Hedges to get it in the mixer and a chance to win the game. No, we went short and two of three passes later it was full time.

Come on JDT, at the very least mix them up a bit.

So unproductive yet we scored one of our 2 goals from them....

I thought Hedges was better than fine, probably the most effective player when he came on, he set the pace and tone.

I often think the same thing with Hedges, he looks great but has no real thrust. He links up well with people was great in the middle third but he wasted some good opportunities to put a cross or shot in.

One chance he had where he could've cut across the defender and got in on goal or forced a foul where he didn't quite go for it which I feel sums him up a bit. He's a bit too safe and lacks a right footed cross or shot that would make him a real threat. Was better than the other 2 wingers on today's showing and should probably start next week but that right wing is a prime area for recruitment.

Also Brittain is consistently giving the manager something to think about. He's a good player.

That red (second yellow) was given due to their player waving an imaginary card. That’s a bootable offense this season. The ref did his job and I’m sure that will be the punishment every time.

Pretty sure that's what Adam Wharton was booked for after being fouled in our own half. Fair enough if you ask me. It's going to be a painful bedding in process but it'll benefit the game in the long run I just we learn quicker than the Rotherham players did today.

The service we get from Rovers TV, iFollow, whatever it's been down the years, just seems to be getting worse as time goes on.

Tried to watch the game on Saturday from Italy. Said it was being broadcast there. Was forced into buying a monthly pass. Then got the message that it wasn't available in my area. Emailed to complain, response I got back said it was available in italy and didn't answer the question. A baffling service.

  5. With the condition that ennis and Sigurðsson arrived in coupled with the lack of recent movement in transfer for another attacker I'm expecting a slowish start to the season.

How well the season goes will largely depend on how well we recruit in the coming weeks. If the funds come in and that allows us to say sign a striker and loan a decent winger then that could be enough. I don't think we are far off being a good side in this league.

    HT thoughts.

Scoreline flatters them. Whilst they’ve been clinical, we’ve played some decent enough stuff.

Trav started brilliantly, died down after getting wound up.

Markanday looks like he’ll be a real bonus this season.

    Carter looks our best defender.

Not sure Dolan is up to it. No actual end product.

Nice goal, pleased for Leonard, had a tough half otherwise. Would Gallagher have been in that position?

Disagree on Markanday. He's working hard but doesn't look he'll make it to me. He isn't quick enough.

I remember Souness talking a few years ago about how one of the problems with Dunny was that he always wanted to be Gazza, whereas Graeme was of the view that the very best midfielders have the most impact by sitting a bit deeper and dictating play.

I'm not sure that works for everyone, but I think for Wharton I'd be looking more at Andrea Pirlo's career rather than Tugay. Both have the ability to play further up the pitch and offer a real goal threat, but they're still at their most influential when orchestrating play from deep.

As players Pirlo and Tugay are very similar in terms of style. And its precisely the role Wharton should look to play imo. Most teams play the ball out from the back and he can be the key pivot.

Essentially when you have a player who is that good on the ball, you want to get them on the ball as often as possible. Do you sacrifice Wharton not touching the ball as much to get him closer to the goal? Not for me.

  8. If results stay as they are and west brom norwich is a draw then we could get away with a point vs Luton. There's no other way for us to get in other than beating Millwall.

In fact in the above scenario beating luton makes no difference to a draw. All it would do is open up a route to 5th place which I'm not sure is particularly advantageous to us.
