Mowbray will go and try to get a draw and will be delighted if we do get that.

That actually wouldnt bother me if he could set the team up to go away from home, defend as a unit and absorb pressure but I can count on one hand the number of times we have managed to do that.

We are playing the mighty juggernaut Forest and should be excited to be able to play them and 'test ourselves' against such a great side - that will be the attitude.

Expect minimum 4 changes, probably more. Can't be bothered trying to guess what he will do next. Dack's injury and other unavailability looks to have sent Mowbray into a tailspin of chopping and changing. Try to second guess him at your peril.

Agree JH though he might think we are struggling and throw all the kids in and make it look like we had no option as we are so unlucky to be injury ravaged and therefore what else could anyone expect but a defeat . You know the one ...” not really my fault , not much we could do , we had six 12 year olds in our team today” kind of bollox .

Do the honorable thing Tony and walk away.

This team is a disorganised shower - and you've wasted £12m on two strikers.

One of whom you don’t think worth ever bringing on when we are chasing a goal . How does he start at Bristol and not get on the field last 3 games when we need a goal ??? £7million utterly pissed away . Even behind chapman in pecking order today and he’s been a write off until now.

mowbray , eff off you haven’t a clue what you’re doing or even trying to do . Go and play with your kids in the garden and give us all a break .

Joking aside, if Rovers grasped the opportunity now in front of them by the scruff of the neck, made 2 or 3 astute signings in the window, played a consistent formation that suited the players available. We could go up!

Let's be honest, we've been generally shit and are still on the fringe........

Get ready for the FFP excuse for not spending . It’s the hope that kills us all

We clearly see things differently bluebruce. He showed enough for me on Boxing Day (admittedly in a sea of dross) to know that he could significantly enhance our first team.

Last year at this time Travis was a relative untried youngster . Now , most think he can’t be left out . Why? Because he’s benefitted from 50 games . Buckley has more talent and flair than most of our seasoned midfielders put together . But he needs to grow and adapt to the demands of senior football . So either we play him and grow him or we watch him become a Mount or a Maddison in 18 months time playing for Spurs or whoever .

Play him for Christ’s sake , nothing to lose . It’s not like we are play off bound with the current crop of also rans is it?

It's bizarre. All the money went on 2 strikers with really poor goalscoring stats.

One thing that's been concerning for a while now is that no matter where we are in the table, our goal difference is always poor.

And another example of needing a goal at home we make 3 subs and our £7million striker isn’t one of them . Not that I wanted him to be but if I were in Venkys shoes I’d be asking wtf that was all about.

I agree but would extend the criticisms about poor passing to the whole team. Simple passes were often misplaced, over or under hit or the wrong weight. And that is almost the polar opposite of how well we passed it at Bristol. To offer a slight defence I thought the pitch was too dry but that is is no way excusing the overall quality which was poor.

I thought that about the pitch too, Arbitro. It seemed hard and a bit bouncy rather than slick but our passing and control was awful throughout the whole team. I really feared for us a bit when I saw Tosin was missing because he can bring the ball out and thread a pass. It seemed to affect Lenihan too though the way Derrick was giving it away in the first half can hardly have inspired confidence

It was the manner of the display that bothered me more than the result if i'm honest. The run that we are on will end up with points dropped somewhere along the line and possibly that would have been a game we lost late on in the past. They weren't an awful side either, i've certainly seen worse  and we have lost to worse teams. But the distinct lack of quality combined with a number of our players who simply aren't up to it leads me to believe we are quite a way short of being play off material. Not a night for singling just one out but Armstrong ….. I just don't see it with him.

As they haven’t done so, already this season, let’s hope they have a complete 180 and start doing so with some urgency....

Given that the medics will have been with Dack for almost an hour before Mowbray was interviewed and he was still talking about tears and very emotional dressing room , I think this is more likely to be  a season ender sadly. I'm preparing myself for the ''9 months but he's in good hands'' followed by 'the operation was a success and he will ''come back stronger'' routine. Hammer blow purely from the goals perspective .

How many flops has Mowbray actually signed?

    Caddis

    Gladwin

Maybe Bell up until he rolled his sleeves up and played a blinder yesterday.

Chapman I really dunno about, he was class when here first time around but God knows what's going on with him now.

I get people will say Brereton but until he plays regularly as a striker it's unfair.

Apart from that he hasn't done too bad has he?

It’s looking like being a long long time until Brereton plays regularly as a striker . If he does we will have fallen a long way off the play offs!

i couldn’t tell you one of his attributes .... apart from being fairly young!!!! Lol

It's just common sense. If bog standard supporters can see what needs doing, then we don't have a very good manager in place.  I want him to wake up and keep doing the obvious but my brain tells me he will be itching to tinker about and it'll cost us again.

I think the tinkering comes about through his obsession with the opposition . He always wants to talk about them like they’re some super elite outfit. “We needed an athletic team because they like to play forward “!! Wtf does that even mean?? Not come across many that play backwards !!

He just overthinks it’s and ouththinks himself half the time . For god sake man pick your best team ( as you have now started to do ) and let them worry about us . We are the form team in the division - as has been said earlier , it’s no coincidence that a settled eleven , our best eleven is good enough to be at the top end of this league despite Mowbray.

How close was that to Rovers v Dingles?

Looked for all the world like there was at least a Lancashire derby in the offing for a good while . I want sure whether I wanted those tw4ts or not as we got down to last four . As it is I feel like it’s the worst of all worlds playing them twice in little more than a week . Still it was a cracker at their place earlier in the season !!!!!! Not .

Hopefully Mowbray will pick the same XI and keep the momentum going. We all know,it's the hope that kills you supporting Rovers. Derby are in a bit of a slump but take nothing for granted in this division.

Once again we approach play off territory which normally prompts a nosebleed. Hopefully not this time and whilst not taking anything for granted against Derby I think the 2 away games to follow at Swansea and Bristol City will tell us whether it was the bad run that was the blip and we're actually decent or the last 7 days was the blip and actually we are bang average.

It is hard to believe that with defensive and goalkeeper problems not sorted out last Summer and main striker situation still being a puzzle for Mowbray that we can emerge as genuine play off contenders and our pattern of results is symptomatic of the Championship ie many others will have the same comments about their own teams.

Fingers crossed but I am preparing myself for more snakes and ladders in the coming weeks.

I felt when he went off we lost our way. No idea why Butterworth played up front when he came on. Vale played wide right when he came on which I thought was strange.

Also.suggest Smallwood didnt get a run out

Agree - 2nd half poor and Butterworth and Vale struggled . Vale looked very weak and easily brushed aside but we had lost our momentum completely by the time Vale came on .

good point about Smallwood , Chaddy. Forgotten man or what???

You just KNOW this is going to happen

Watched him today against Burnley . I felt a deal of sympathy tbh. He’s a big old unit and a lot of our stuff went through him . He had a big presence compared to those around him but looked like his body couldn’t work at the same speed as his brain. . I genuinely hope it’s ring rust that he can overcome if so he will have a career somewhere . But it’s not pleasant watching  somebody struggle in that way . The lad will have been through hell last couple of years and whatever we think of his ability you have to hope he can salvage something for his own and his family’s sake .

He gave a focal point for me. Similar to Graham in the 1st team. He needs gametime

He was a focal point because he played down the middle but I’m struggling to define his contribution . Poor in the air and didn’t win a challenge in the air, isn’t quick and doesn’t go past anybody. He had a couple of opportunities and didn’t manage to get his shot away. Our 2nd goal came from him losing control in a good position and it fortunately ending up at the feet of Davenport .Apart from that....

tbh his impact and performance were very similar to what we have seen at first team level ; exactly the same traits. The only thing I would say in his defence is that the service wasn’t wonderful .

    Wow - what an outburst.

During TM's time as manager - they bank rolled the biggest League 1 budget - and given him £12m to spend on two strikers - as well as continuing to pay the wages.

They are responsible for our demise - however we only need to look to Bolton to see where we could easily be.

Do you not feel that we are heading in that direction? It’s broken and unmendable and sat on a Venkys debt pile . How long does it continue ... serious question .
it’s a problem that caa a not be solved any more

It also states in the article that some players need to find consistency.

Mowbray doesn't give them the chance too, Rothwell - 3 starts, all away from home, followed by numerous 20 minute cameos off the bench.

    Baffling.

Just as an aside Rochina scores the winner for Levante in La Liga tonight !!

    just saying ...

No fan of Coyle - he was useless - but saying we are in a better shape then when TM arrived is I think ignoring the wider picture.

TM has spent around £12-15 million on players, Coyle sold that much on players and got to invest in fees of a paltry £250,000. Granted there would have been a few signing on fees, but likewise for TM's lot of Downing, Whittingham etc. So £15 million plus and we're in a better state- I'd jolly well hope so given that type of investment. Also we're now fighting relegation as oppose to being relegated which is hardly a ringing endorsement of coming on leaps and bounds. TM is hardly all that whatsoever.

Just to clarify, this does not mean I was a big fan of Coyle, and thought him an utterly terrible appointment, that only could have been worsened by the odious one K##n. That said, he had a raw deal financially compared to TM, so it's hard to stomach hearing TM has brought us on leaps and bounds.

With you there BB. Selling both centre halves (Duffy/Hanley) at the start of that season and not replace was the primary reason we got relegated . Despite spending a relative fortune (correction...actual fortune) since , Mowbray has not addressed that area of the team despite '' defenders are coming'' yada , yada. We might have several players now who are considerably better than what we had then  but we are hardly if any better and that is a reflection on the goon in charge.
