If you’ve read my posts, you’ll know that I don’t think any ticket deal is going to bring in the numbers without success on the pitch. The price is being used by many here as a reason why some won’t attend. I just don’t agree with that idea, I think some suggestions are frankly ridiculous(for example halving the cost of the ST). Referencing the premier league “fortress Ewood” strategy ignores the attractiveness of fixtures compared to this level, and it also ignores the FACT (not opinion) that turnover or sponsorship money through the league made our ticket money negligible. Its also pre-FFP, and whilst many people have had their say, I don’t recall anyone even mentioning those rules, and how a bigger turnover from tickets would allow the owners to invest more without sanction. I also get the same irony @magicalmortensleftpeg talks about - a correlation between demanding the club spend more (After the most investment the team has had in years) and demanding it lowers prices “to suit all fans” Im not sure those views can go hand in hand with a straight face. If you want dirt cheap tickets then you surely understand the clubs turnover drops - along with wages/fees. As one famous moaner says, the tickets aren’t directly paying for wages/fees, but the more costs they cover, the more playing budget.

Whilst you’re bumbling for reasons to justify non attendance on cost, remember the key part of what I disagree with is; ”99 is a lot of money for 6 matches” I’m not sure how suggesting success is the main barometer for attendance figures is being contrary. What’s the main goal here? Bring back attendance and atmosphere or appease the those who will only attend one off games? Price will always be secondary to the stuff on the pitch. Since you’re obsessed with Strawmen, at 10 pound, would ten thousand extra turn up for last years final game (vs Oxford) If we hadn’t been promoted? All three of us know the answer to that.
-
So don’t put the rationale down to price. Its not, and never has been about cost. Theres plenty who will come back, but only through success on the pitch. Marketing is subjective. I think these multi ticket deals are a good way of getting people into the regular habit.
-
Again, 17 quid a game isn’t a price anyone could legitimately complain about. Yet they do, and will. I’m not attempting to justify it like you are.
-
Yes or no; “99 is a lot of money for 6 matches”
-
Sorry but I can’t do any further into your post without pointing out that the first sentence is utter garbage. This thread is hilarious, I’ve never seen so many people try to justify the non-attendance position. You talk as if it’s putting off fans - as MagicalM said, the same fans are complaining that we aren’t investing more money on the team. Genuinely, what is a game worth these days? Rather than avoid the question and go into some anti Chaddy rant, you tell me what you think the average game should cost.
-
3/4 PW according to FM19 - and I’d suggest that is far closer to the truth than me and you can simply assume. Question for you - do you really think 7m was available for signings, on top of the wages that the likes of Celina/Bamford that would’ve required?
-
The points you put across are a similar fantasy of stinny, from my perspective. Also particularly dismissive of the current crop of senior players, something I’ve made clear I disagree with. If you think signing BB was akin to adding a senior wage to the squad, from my perspective - you’re wrong. I’m not one of those people who simply chooses opinion by volume of those who agree! Armstrong came from a premier league club so my assumption is his wage would be more like our top earners. Brereton was young and his experience at championship level was always going to increase his fee compared to his wages! My thing with BB deal is people unfairly see 7m as the same or similar to signing rhodes, Kalinic, Davies, grabbi et al. I think that’s stupid personally. I think we only had the potential to spend that money because this particular player was in a wage bracket that meant more was available for the fee. The chairman (waggott) said pretty much the same.
-
You won’t accept the quotes of the person who actually sanctioned the deal so what is the point replying beyond that? I didn’t say we gave him his first pro contract FFS. I said we signed him from that. The fact you’d mention his previous experience in this league means you should associate that with a larger fee. For example, Armstrong who had question marks against his form in the championship cost allegedly half! Why? If you can’t see the difference between the yearly cost of that sort of deal, compared with someone more established and/or on premier league wages - it’s pointless carrying on.
-
Yea it’s called age. Someone on their first professional contract is always going to cost less monthly than your average proven championship level player.
-
Not convinced about the part in bold, especially the reactions to results on social media and here. Kalinic a good example of an expensive signing that didn’t really live up to expectations initially but by the time he left, looked like a bit of a waste.
-
Yea but then we’re back to the cyclical argument that we haven’t actually spent 7m on Brereton and the reduction in wages for him would’ve never been possible for a solid top level championship centrehalf! It’s like the Brereton maypole, round and round. It is a symptom of the clubs improvement that we are discussing such specific qualms, as opposed to lambasting the entire direction of the club.

I agree it’s fair enough for people to have their own opinions but every element of it from my perspective of what he said was wrong, hence asking what you thought. If giving an opinion (forgetting I didn’t post after the game until this morning or in the match thread) causes me to be a nightmare, I’m quite sure you need to toughen up - maybe stay a bit longer on holiday it sounds like you need it.
-
Jesus you say a lot without saying much RF You used the phrase doom merchant, not me. I also have made it clear I disagree with many of the common criticisms, that’s hardly an attitude of ignoring any criticism. If you agreed with me about Evans, why not quote Stinny who thinks this is nothing to do with Mowbray?
-
I broke down his post into three points outside of the one you dismissed! I’m still waiting to see which one you think is fair lad..
-
Wigan came up too so the idea that momentum is the reason we’ve had a decent start should apply to them, should it not? If you don’t like the spiky replies, don’t start off posts with rose tinted spectacle stuff - because that’s exactly the same- it’s suggesting any viewpoint is entrenched in some sort of misguided bias. There’s some negative aspects but they are completely outweighed by the positive elements - which are regurlatly ignored by you and others. Defensively, I’d like to see more investment too - but I’m under no illusion that this was ever a simple or cheap job.
-
You have an astonishingly stubborn nature to criticise things you can’t see through ignorance. That literally makes any response to your further criticisms of Graham and Bennett pointless. If momentum is the only thing that’s put us here, what about Wigan?
-
I could quite easily say that the amount of points we have amassed, our attacking threat and our impressive home form is ignored because it doesn’t fall into the criticism bracket. Just to put that into context - we’ve scored a lot of goals and in nearly every game we’ve played - we’ve either contested or at least had consistent enough spells to be in with a shot of winning the game. Equally we tend to concede goals in game when we are gung ho attempting to win, you say give up.
-
I think it makes you look a bit daft saying his other points are fair enough? “Decent” ala average? Do you believe any “average” manager could’ve turned our club completely round? “He will never get Rovers up”.. is that not ignoring the trend, since were already technically overachieving from certain perspectives? Plus he’s done it before? “He needs binning off”, there’s nothing fair about that Kenneth!
-
The question you asked me doesn’t need a response, because we didn’t just make one signing, and a few of them had a bit of experience at this level. I also ignored it, as it’s simply isolating a response to a ridiculous remark, Tom. If you’re truly interested in what my overall view of that deal is easy to find on this website, thread etc. Your sweeping statements against all those players and Mowbrays impact just show a lack of understanding from my perspective. Easy examples, Graham has been a great player that TM gets the most of even in his later years, Bennett has become a leader, the vice captain, and he’s been utilised in many positions to cover injuries - and not done too badly either. There’s plenty of argument to suggest that’s his best role in this squad. Evans has improved under Mowbray. I’d like to bring anyone else into this discussion who disagrees with that statement and their reasons. Conway was a discussion in the summer, and I can see why many thought his time was up. But for minimal cost, and without questioning the manager’s published opinion about him being a good character in the dressing room - he has still had a decent impact. Particularly the Sheff Wednesday game, and in a couple of other cameos. On the younger lads - I don’t expect consistency yet because that’s what you get trying to develop players like we are. There’s bound to be mistakes, but look at Darragh - times this season he’s been as dominant as any centre half we’ve had since 2011, one that gets headed goals n the box too. You’re simply just writing people off and I’ll never subscribe to that. I’m not suggesting that things couldn’t be done better, that’s never been the case. Even under big Sam, Hughes, Souness etc. What I am firmly in the camp of - the direction we are heading is up. That’s because 9/10 decisions our club management have taken since Mowbray was appointed resulted in us moving forward.
-
For saying Jog on? Jesus, anything to have your echo chamber back.
-
Call me modern if you like but I’d say there’s more to a footballer than just goals, even upfront. If there wasn’t, Nuttall would be hailed as the second coming of Jesus. And for the last time, I was replying to; “Whatever we could have done with it, it would have been better than what we actually did!” The ridiculous reply about Murphy/Etuhu was to point out just how wrong the above statement is. Now jog on.
-
Specific to your measurements - a season seems fair enough but if he’s hardly factored by then and still on the fringes, without making much impact off the bench - id be starting to be convinced it’ll never come. Now though it’s remarkably premature in my eyes to suggest it’s an “obscene” waste of money or a “blunder”. No argument that different decisions might’ve yielded differeng scenarios - hindsight is fantastic though.
-
And you’re choosing to highlight my point specifically to argue with, when it’s quite clearly a ridiculous response to a ridiculous point.
-
I don’t think waiting till he’s had 2 or 3 starts in a row in the league is unfair personally
