  1. Games are coming thick and fast in this league and we need all the bodies for the second half of the season. Smallwood has played a lot of games for us since he joined and probably needs the break, and Evans will have to be rested now and then as well. Travis right now should be first on the team sheet along with Raya, Mullgrew, Lenihan and Dack. Same mould as J. Lowe but with actually skill and desire to go forward.

  2. Good combative game, another blow to concede late on when we looked on the front foot. Thought Palmer and Brereton messed the team balance up completely and the other eight outfield players just didn't have any juice left to keep us afloat. Naive subs, but Mowbray would have been praised for it had we won and certainly criticized if we had lost without making the two final substitutions. Onto the next one!

  3. Wrong lineup for me. How Conway gets to start with the squad we currently have is a big mystery for me. Supposed to be experienced but seen him do silly things deep into his own half way too many times. Tbh Bennett and Graham should have been on from the start, but at least Mowbray recognised the signs early enough.

Dack could have snatched it though, and Armstrong should have had a penalty, but all in all we were very lucky to avoid defeat in this one.

I voted Smallwood as it was the best I've seen him this season, and put a real shift in as we always expect him to.

That's an insult, he's worth three times that amount.

Would be great if we sign Chapman. Cult hero, good impact sub and could become a very good player down the line. Hope we agree the fee now if his contract is running out or his tribunal fee will be higher come end of the season.

Will we want him?He looks ok but when everyone fit and if it's a choice between him and Rothwell for one of the slots beside Dack and Bennett then who would you pick?Rothwell for me.

Armstrong and Brereton can play that position too

I'd prefer Rothwell centrally but that's not going to happen so want to get him in the team

Tough question. Probably Palmer as he poses more of a threat going forward, whereas Rothwell gives the team better balance when that's needed.

But that isn't for every game.  . .

Not quite sure how it's decided, but I think if the game isn't being broadcast somewhere in the world it is back to - one camera, no replays and the addition of the terrible out of sync audio (including the crowd).

Ah, ok. Thanks, didn't know that.

Going back quite a way to find that one as an example.

For your Jeffers ill give you a Friedal.

    Or a Bellamy.

He was the first one that sprang to mind. I was just putting a balanced view out there - it could go either way. Won't know until we know.

I actually think the Rodwell signing is the type of signing we should be looking at. Still young so different to the Murphy signing but a good pedigree but seems to have lost his way. If he wants to succeed and have a good career it’s his last chance really.

Was having a read on Reddit today regarding Glenn Murray's comments and I was very surprised that several supporters of other teams were talking about Dack being ready for the prem. We need to be careful we don't lose him in Jan , could easily imagine Venky's cashing in for anything above £10 mil

I think that'll depend a lot on our league position. If we're fighting for promotion they won't sell, and if we're fighting against relegation they'll probably wait as well unless he's got a crazy relegation release clause in his contract. Realistically, this season could be our best bet for promotion for a while if Dack ends up leaving sometime in the next 18 months...

At £8 mil the lad is going to have to knocking on the England senior door to exponentialy increase in value and score double figures this season to maintain/slightly increase his value.  There are lots of young Englandprospects about - Solanke, Abraham, Lookman etc.

Big ask without him having any stand out features to his game.

£8m is a stern price, but the prices are heavily inflated. Just look at what Villa have been asking for Grealish.

I know we're living in a different footballing world nowadays and our scouting limitations will be natural, but it wasn't too many years ago we were 'scouting' the likes of Santa Cruz (€3m), Lewandowski (€4m) and Benni McCarthy (€2.5m). = £8m.

Now we're looking at signing a 19 kid from Nottingham Forest with 8 goals in 2nd division football for potentially the same price as those 3 combined... where's the bucket ?.

Would we not be better with Gallacher, Bauer and Freeman for almost the cost of Bereton? I'm not certain, however if we are spending £8m+ on a forward, there must surely be others worthy of that price.

I mean, we only signed Bradley Dack because he played well in a 4-1 defeat for Gillingham. So Even though the manager does know a good player WHEN he sees one, I just fear we're being ripped off because of lack of scouting ambition.

Mowbray has said they've been expanding and are scouting cheaper markets like Ligue 2 in France where there are a lot of talented players. We can't expect this to happen overnight. If Mowbray is willing to shelf out £8m on Brereton he must be pretty confident that he will turn into something. Besides, the market for English players (especially younger players)  inflated - if Brereton signs and is a success, his value will increase exponentially though.

So Bereton isn't even getting in the Forest squad, even in the Cup, yet we are upping our bids at a seemingly excessive rate.

If he doesn't play a minute of football for the next 4 months, his value will surely decrease and his appetite to move will be stronger.

I for one would rather this deal fall apart this month instead of breaking our club record transfer fee, and take the gamble of revisiting it in January.

Dack, Armstong, Graham and Palmer have shown enough and heck even Samuel looks like he can play a bit part. Unless this guy is the second coming of Shearer then it all seems strange.

Maybe he's not in the squad for a reason...?

I suspect we're gambling at present knowing we've got up to 2 weeks remaining to get some signings in so we're prepared to drag it out and wait in the hope that selling clubs reduce their demands and sanction loans with permanents for lower prices.

That's great if that's what ultimately happens but we might be left in a mess should it not come off and we're scurrying around in the last few days desperately trying to find reinforcements.

I think Mowbray has stated previously that every target has a set price that they're not going beyond. They don't want to be pushed around in negotiations, so that's why they've pulled out of the Bauer deal (for now) until Charlton come to their senses. Of course this tactic only works if we avoid standing empty-handed post deadline day...

Us fans always want the latest inside info and in my next life I want to be an 'ITK', but for all parties involves the way Rovers for the most part have managed to keep things under wraps is for the better.

I don't know because I'm not a scout. Forest knew who to sign though because they signed a proven striker in Grabban and put this kid on the bench. I'd have Grabban tomorrow. If we were an established Championship side I'd say we could take a gamble, but we aren't. It's absolutely Imperative we stay up this season. We need players who will definitely help us stay up, not players who might.

Watching the video this lad likes to start out wide and come inside all the time.  He also favours his right hand side a lot. He's new to the league and opponents haven't figured him out yet. They'll be working on that. I didn't see any signs of heading ability for a tall lad.

Jim won't be signing him anyway - he wears gloves !

Grabban is 30 years old and cost £6 million, and on PL wages. It's not the 'Venky's model' to pay over the odds for players with no resale value either. Besides, we have Graham on our books who's proven and Armstrong who has proven he fits well into our system, so I'm not too worried if we sign a 19 year-old.

If this was the old " Loadsamoney  " Rovers you could say " Yeah sign the lad, he's a gamble but we can stand the loss if he turns out to be the new Ashley Ward, Nathan Blake, Kevin Davies etc etc  ".

As we all know things have changed. This could be the equivalent of betting the ranch on a young untried player. We could lump all our dosh on " red " and " black " turns up. Unless of course we have got more money to spend than we all think. Our current recruitment would suggest that's not the case. For that sort of money I'd like a more proven player at this level.

    Like who?

Personally I think Brereton would benefit a lot from learning under Mowbray and Danny Graham. A lot of younger strikers first and foremost need to work on their hold-up play and decision making, plus get that little bit of composure by getting match experience at a higher level. Knowing he'd be first or second pick here rather than third or fourth at Forest will hopefully be enough to convince him of joining, but if I read ewoodnews' post correctly, then we're only trying to agree the loan fee as Forest are not looking to sell...?
