I realise Ben wasn't match fit when he came but is he playing in any of the U23 games? If not then he should to get his fitness levels up, as well as gather some momentum against lower level opponents. I think fans have a tendency to turn on players who either are lazy or look lazy. Ben is long and gangly and doesn't seem to work as hard as some of our other players. We've had strikers in the past who lacked obvious quality or physical but still were very popular among the fans. Shefki Kuqi and Paul Dickov are two that spring to mind - I think if he can start there and learn under Graham, there might be hope for him.
-
Thought last night he had his best game so far in a Rovers shirt, but that's saying something. Needs the support of his manager, the fans and his teammates to get going. Hopefully he can add a bit of muscle and his decision making needs to improve - right now he looks like a young 5 a-side player playing among the pros. Don't think he'll get double figures for us anytime soon.

He's taller than Graham but doesn't even try to win any aerial battles.

Wouldn't rule him out just yet, but he has looked like a fish out of water this season. Needs a goal badly or risk becoming another Grabbi, Davies or Kalinic.

Matthew Platt and Sam Hart in defence along with spinning Travis as a new midfield signing and it looks like a good January window already. ?
We just need a striker now.

Travis along side Bradley, Armstrong up front or Midfield /. Graham up front. Wings and defence still not sure who should wear first team shirts ??
just interested in others views. best formation?
thanks
Why would you stick him up front when he's been a standout player in the middle of the park for the past two games? Let him grow into that role and we'll have a very decent young player on our hands.

Rothwell has potential but needs to work on his overall decision making and end product. Can breeze past players though...At the moment we don't have anyone to replace Dack and Graham as I see it.

Bell is the most frustrating Rover to watch at the moment. Is it lack of confidence or lack of footballing brains? Bennett had a tough task marking the excellent Barnes but does lack match fitness. Was left one on one with him by Reed a few times too many, but then again the energy of Reed is something else. If we can tie him to a permanent deal then I'd bee over the moon. Great game, really deserved the win and the penalty looked a bit soft to me and gave them a lifeline they didn't deserve.

Games are coming thick and fast in this league and we need all the bodies for the second half of the season. Smallwood has played a lot of games for us since he joined and probably needs the break, and Evans will have to be rested now and then as well. Travis right now should be first on the team sheet along with Raya, Mullgrew, Lenihan and Dack. Same mould as J. Lowe but with actually skill and desire to go forward.

Williams isn't even considering the leagues top scorer. Bell can be excused as theres another Norwich wide man coming in....Williams is at fault As soon as he came on I knew we were fooked
And Nyambe?

Good combative game, another blow to concede late on when we looked on the front foot. Thought Palmer and Brereton messed the team balance up completely and the other eight outfield players just didn't have any juice left to keep us afloat. Naive subs, but Mowbray would have been praised for it had we won and certainly criticized if we had lost without making the two final substitutions. Onto the next one!

He looked the player that lots of people knew was in there. I'd like to see him and Mulgrew together.
And drop Lenihan?

Wrong lineup for me. How Conway gets to start with the squad we currently have is a big mystery for me. Supposed to be experienced but seen him do silly things deep into his own half way too many times. Tbh Bennett and Graham should have been on from the start, but at least Mowbray recognised the signs early enough.
Dack could have snatched it though, and Armstrong should have had a penalty, but all in all we were very lucky to avoid defeat in this one.
I voted Smallwood as it was the best I've seen him this season, and put a real shift in as we always expect him to.

That's an insult, he's worth three times that amount.
Would be great if we sign Chapman. Cult hero, good impact sub and could become a very good player down the line. Hope we agree the fee now if his contract is running out or his tribunal fee will be higher come end of the season.

Samuel looks to have a partial tear, but will go for a second scan as RB mentions. Don't know whether it's the anterior or the posterior, but sure there will be some more news coming from the club soon.

Ben Brereton reminds me of Alan Shearer, both were young with potential and same height and British. Brereton has 18 international games for U19 and over 53 games in the Championship. This player is way better than Nuttall and Samuel!
Are you Steve Kean in disguise?

Will we want him?He looks ok but when everyone fit and if it's a choice between him and Rothwell for one of the slots beside Dack and Bennett then who would you pick?Rothwell for me.
Armstrong and Brereton can play that position too
I'd prefer Rothwell centrally but that's not going to happen so want to get him in the team
Tough question. Probably Palmer as he poses more of a threat going forward, whereas Rothwell gives the team better balance when that's needed.

Palmer- looks a talent - first teamer but loan, no option - could we potentially afford this guy in light of the budget?
We can probably only afford Palmer when/if we go up.

But that isn't for every game. . .
Not quite sure how it's decided, but I think if the game isn't being broadcast somewhere in the world it is back to - one camera, no replays and the addition of the terrible out of sync audio (including the crowd).
Ah, ok. Thanks, didn't know that.

If we end up buying Brereton the fee will never be disclosed, so it's anyone's guess. £12m does sound over the top, unless Mowbray is willing to put his balls on the line on him making it big.

I think the Rodwell signing may have freed up a little cash set aside for Bauer. Might help us to get one or two of the cash buys over the line
How so?

Going back quite a way to find that one as an example.
For your Jeffers ill give you a Friedal.
Or a Bellamy.
He was the first one that sprang to mind. I was just putting a balanced view out there - it could go either way. Won't know until we know.

I actually think the Rodwell signing is the type of signing we should be looking at. Still young so different to the Murphy signing but a good pedigree but seems to have lost his way. If he wants to succeed and have a good career it’s his last chance really.

Rumoured Rodwell signing suggest Rothwell is seen by Tony as a wide player.
Could be. He likes to play central midfielders out wide for balance...

If we fail to win promotion Dack will be long gone in the summer I think. He will want to test his luck in the Premier League, and BA would boost our chances next season if we stay in this league. Maybe they're funding the deal on the Dack money we'll receive in May - August, or it will balance itself out with the bonus we'll get from winning promotion...
I really hope Madon is right on this one, we could really do with another striker other than Graham who can lead the line for 90 minutes.
