  1. When I was at nursery school, (arpound 1971) the teacher brought me home and banned me for ever (which was effectively around six months) as I had killed the goldfish by feeding them plasticine.

Around the age of 6 I stole 50pence from my mums purse whilst she was asleep (She was a nurse on night shift at Blackburn Infirmary). I bought some toffees from the Spar in Euxton, and jumped on a bus to Preston. I said to the driver 4 please, as I thought all bus journeys were 4 pence, the price of my school bus journey (Euxton Primrose Hill). My dad worked in Preston, and the Transport Police picked me up on Preston bus station on somehow found out where he worked and they had him pick me up at the Police station.

At secondary school, where I first met 1864Roverite, I started a band, called Standard Deviation. I was lead guitarist and singer/songwriter. We wrote to ITV Saturday morning kids show Fun Factory and they asked us to audition. I also wrote to Granada Reports to get a meeting with Tony Wilson for an audition for Factory records, but despite getting a pleasant reply from Bob Greaves, he as much as said no chance. Cannot recall what happened to the Fun Factory thing.

When I was 13, I was arrested for TDA, but got let off with a caution. And I once won a free trip to Italy on a ski trip when I was a salesman for Wildings cameras in Chorley-top ten salesmen in the UK that year.

Around 1980, a mob of us at Parklands all started going to Ewood, getting a lift of one of our Dads. That is when I started going to Rovers. I remember my first trip, walking up the steps of the Blackburn End, and seeing the floodlight green grass on the astonishingly good looking pitch. Instantly addicted.

Low point of my life was in 2007, when my little brother died of cancer, aged 37 after six months of torture and tears. I also split from my wife then too.

Highlight so far was when my son and heir , George was born, whose birthday it is today!

I run a company called Incredibid Ltd, an online retailer of musical instruments, Link Here.

I do a twitter, my name there is Incredibid_Man, Link Here

I do Facebook too, Link Here.

And finally, on my Facebook there are 16 0odd Rovers photos you can share-Link Here.

  2. Originally yes, Chorley Borough became Lancashire Lynx (when bought by PNE) which became Chorley Lynx (when bought by a group along with Chorley FC). Blackpool Panthers took most of the Chorley squad when Chorley Lynx folded.

Bet there's not many people who own one of these then.

  3. Just inherited this bike below, which is in need of renovation. IT is a Dawes hand built in Preston about 30 years ago I beleive. Is it any good?

I have had neither the time or ability to do anything with this bike. If anybody is interested in having it for free, please feel free to PM me and you can collect it from me in Chorley.

    GONE NOW, Thanks.

  4. For me the point is MacDonalds can't supply real quality at the prices charged. A Happy Meal, which i think is what you bought, contains what? A toy, a load of packaging, burger, chips and (I think) a drink plus staff costs, overheads, net margin etc. Is VAT on this as a takeaway? Break all that lot down and MacDonalds cannot be supplying quality food at £2.00 per meal.

I would hazard a guess that they may well lose money on £2 a go for a happy meal Paul-They use it a both a loss leader (Mum/Dad takes kids in for happy meal and then spend £10 on big mac etc on themselves) and also as an investment in the future-get them hooked early and they will more than pay back over the subsequent years.

  5. Nowt wrong with that AS-You're an intellingent adult who I am sure understands that you cannot eat that day in day out and stay reasonably healthy. I understand that there is a place for fast food, I can choose to eat there or not, based on intelligent informed decision making. I eat meat-I love a good burger too, and to be honest I would not go out and eat a Mung Bean Salad on a Saturday night after a few scoops. For me it's just the way they (McDs and many other Fast food corps) manipulate and take advantage of young , immature, impressionable minds to line corporate pockets whilst simultaneously turning generations of our country into fat gets with ADD, diabetes and a rapidly decreasing life expectency.

I also understand that this view point makes me look like Buzz Killington!

  6. Don't get me started on MacDonalds. Oh you have. Well I may as well continue then.

McDonalds as a corporation is superb. I have no idea how much money they make but I can guess it is a very very profitable set up. I had the misfortune to be in the branch on Middlebrook the other month , as my Mrs thinks it a treat to take our kids there. My lad is not even three yet but he recognises the big M sign a mile away and he immediatley chirps up with "Donalds!". Not even three and they have got him hooked.

A "Happy Meal" costs £2.00, and in it are a small packet of "fries", a "burger", a drink , usually a "shake", but the most important thing is the crappy toy they give them. Themed on a recent Disney movie more often than not, the really young ones see the association between the funny movie they may have watched and going for a new Disney based toy from McDs. The first thing George does when he gets in there is play with the toy! (Showing good taste really).

He rarely eats any of the grub they slop out, maybe drinks most of his milkshake though. But by the time they can make their own decisons on where to go for a meal out, they are so hooked on the sugary drinks, the fatty over salted foods they automatically default to Mac bleeding Donalds.

Anyway I was sat in there waiting whilst the kids were eating, and looking around you could see the whole place is totally geared up to releive the public off as much cash in as short a space of time as as is possible, whilst in return the customer gets a plastic tray full of absolute crap, full of additives, sugars, salts and massive saturated fats and food crammed with calories. Not got enough spare change to buy all you want? No problem-each till has a Switch machine, lready and primed to drain your bank balance, whilst all around you there are primary coloured menus urging you to Max the meal or add a drink etc.

I absolutely hate MacDonalds for what it is doing to the worlds childrens health, but you have to admire the sheer brass necked balls of them in the way they corner the weak and vulnerable and enslave them to this cash for sludge relationship.

Got me thinking though, why cannot a company exist whose products are super healthy, sustainable, whos packing won't litter every street in the UK-with the same aggressive marketing tactics that McDs use-come along and transform the way the vast majority now eat ? Would solve a lot of health issues for sure.

    Lap of honour

First visit to Wembley. Went on the coach with Ewood WMC with my dad. Great day out, crap view, superb goal. Remember watching a pre-match game, schoolboys or something, and the sound delay from the other end of the ground was amazing - seemed to take about 5 seconds.

You can see the mini pitches for the pre match kids games here

Paid on the gate at Wembley, can you believe that.

The first ever game that my son went to. Remember him finding a rosette, that he kept in a box for years afterwards.

    £5.00 Alan.

  8. It's on my doorstep almost, but I had forgotten how good The Happy Village on Market Street chinese restaurant is. I went with the family on Friday night at 6pm, at which time we were the only diners. But within 5 minutes a few more had arrived, to take advantage of the 3 courses for £9.95 they offer Sunday to Friday. In truth the three course thing is a little misleading, as course number one is a choice of Hot and Sour or Chicken and Sweetcorn soup. There are then a second round of the usual spring rolls, prawn toast dim sum type bits-but they were all excellent, as was my hot and sour soup.

Then a choice of about half a dozen mains, with excellent fried rice. I had chicken with green pepper and black bean sauce, which was as good as I have had outside Manchester.

The building is a bit creaky, and not very large (more room upstairs) but the service was excellent, made a fuss of our kids, and prompt through out.

By the time we left at about 7.40pm the place was getting close to being full, which speaks for itself in this climate.

    Really enjoyed it.
