  1. Amdy Faye is reported to be moving for 2 million pounds and imo he is a better player than Savage. However, Hughes obviously knows a lot of Savage's qualities and sees the signing as a guarenteed success - as opposed to a slight risk with buying someone he has not worked with before.
  2. Well done, Rovers. Thoroughly deserved win by all accounts. Charlton barely had a shot on target and that is testament, in particular, to the form of Nisse and Todd.
  3. As long as we keep goal-machine Talal El Karkouri quiet, we should win. Hughes has a dilemma - make some changes to freshen things up OR retain the team that performed so well against Newcastle and Bolton?
  4. He probably meant going places - eg Plymouth and Rotherham.
  5. That's a dangerous thing to say in these parts. But I congratulate you on your bravery.
  6. We're lacking a bit of creativity, as Hughes has said, so when will MGP get a chance to introduce a bit of creativity to the team? He's made his name as a goalscoring winger so why, oh why, won't Hughes put him to the test. Hughes likes to keep a consistent team - but maybe over this hectic period changes were necessary to freshen things up and give tired legs a rest - easy to be wise after the event, I suppose.
  7. I think it's more likely that Ferguson sold Cole because Rovers wafted 8 million pounds under his nose and Cole was not a first team regular anymore.
  8. I believe the board would have sacked Souness if our results hadn't improved over the next handful of games from the date he left. Quite simply things were going from bad to worse. Vratislav Gresko playing in midfield after ONE MEASLY decent performance there in preseason?!!!! Souness did not even use preseason to work out his best starting eleven, hence the problems once the season got going. For some inexplicable reason, only known to himself, not once in preseason did he try to put out his best team, instead he mixed and matched all the way through and continued to do so once the real stuff began. All I say is thank God for Fat Freddy Shepherd.
  9. Why?! He's had it mate, time for the knacker's yard no less. His 'performance' against Spain lends a lot of weight to that argument.
  10. Fantastic win. A much-maligned, maligned by me as much as anyone, Garry Flitcroft, deserves a bit of praise. He is no longer the player he used to be but his return to the team has brought that defensive solidarity that we've been craving for. There's no doubt he is a considerable improvement on Tugay because he can tackle. I still see Robbie Savage as an upgrade on Flitty (but an excessively expensive one) but I'm very glad that the guy is now deserving his not inconsiderable wage - something that has not been the case in the past. BTW: Mokoena may have a hard time breaking the Nisse - Todd partnership.
  11. Yes, Paul Dickov is just a little gnat of a footballer who annoys people, spends a lot of time claiming for fouls and SCORES GOALS. Well done Souey on this particular deal.
  12. Souness on his time at Blackburn He has a point that no-one left, bar Duff, to go on to bigger and better things. There is an argument that Hakan Sukur did because he returned to Turkey and did score quite a few. And Andy Cole may go on to do. It's interesting that he seeks to defend himself by proving he was right to sell certain people - but what about the signings? And lack of them - especially when it came to bringing in a left winger and a left back.
  13. We really need to start winning matches. However, improvement is self-evident in the performances and that is really encouraging... The MGP enigma continues unabated as Hughes chooses to replace Reid with Thompson rather than a natural winger in the Norwegian.
  14. Was a surprise signing as Rovers appeared well stocked in decent goalkeepers at the time but it wasn't long before even the most ardent John Filan supporters were won over by Brad.
  15. 3.5 million pounds for Robbie Savage? There is a strong argument that the guy is past his prime so why should we dish out that much money?
  16. Mokoena a work permit away from being a Rover.
  17. More quotes here I bet David Dunn would concur with those sentiments.
  18. Hughes bemoans the lack of flair and creativity in the team. I think the players should be up for this one.
  19. Youri Djorkaeff or Gamst Pedersen? Imo MGP would be the better bet but obviously Hughes does not think he's ready. As for Youri, I don't know if he has a future at the club. I doubt Hughes will drop Reid to accommodate him, so the only place he could play would be behind Dickov as a second striker. And that didn't exactly work a treat when tried.
  20. Fairly good point, but I'd have liked Hughes to have gone for broke at the end with Stead on and maybe MGP. After all risking losing a point isn't the end of the world because we need 3 pts' to get out of trouble.
  21. The point he was making, I believe, is that if we bought a young left winger from the Nationwide, who everyone had heard of, eg Andy Reid, and Hughes had treated him similarly, more people would be querying why he wasn't even getting 2 mins as a sub. The comparison with Andy Reid is apposite because both have performed well at international level but are unproven at Prem level.
  22. I think you've summed it up nicely there. Brad had a outstanding purple patch and was a major factor in propelling the club into 6th (along with Duff's goal scoring heroics at the end of the season). However, he's not at that standard anymore but that doesn't mean he's not a blimin good shot stopper. Age does appear to be catching up and we have to think about promoting Enkelman - who is relatively young for a goalkeeper. If Arsenal or someone else came in with a substantial bid in the summer, I'd be tempted to let him go. The only problem with doing that is that we don't know if Enks is ready for first team action. We won't know that until he has a run in the team.
  23. I have a new point to make about Pedersen. *cue drum roll* Wouldn't it be wise to give MGP a few sub appearances just to satiate his desperation to play? That way, he won't be hankering for a move through frustration. Hughes claims to see a future for him at Rovers but by freezing him out of first team affairs is more likely to mean that MGP tries to get a move. Good news that he did reasonably for the reserves yesterday.
  24. Too expensive. Hopefully these guys will do a Rahdi Jaidi - come in from obscurity and do well. (Not score stupid own goals )
  25. MGP offers something different - he's a goalscoring winger who's left footed. In a 0-0 relegation six-pointer, he's the sort of person you might turn to for a goal or an assist. But Hughes refuses to use him, even as a sub. I am not going on about this because I just want MGP to succeed - like some posters. But because I want Blackburn to succeed. Imo, Hughes is shooting himself in the foot by not utilising MGP's talents - for whatever reason. Most people are trusting the manager's judgement. And I certainly retain faith in Hughes but on this particular issue, I cannot see a genuine football reason for totally omitting MGP from first team action. It seems to be like the Alan Mahon situation all over again. Souness refused to use him even though we were so desperate for a left footed midfielder, we were playing Nissa there at one point. Difference is that MGP is surely a better player than Mahon and it's not as if we 'desperately' need him to play because Emerton is doing well. Sorry if this post annoys anyone but I felt I had to get it off my chest.
