  1. Replacing Cole will be a very difficult task. He may not have weighed in with loads of goals, but he's led the line well and before Stead arrived, he did it on his own. I still think that Gally and Stead as a partnership are not ready. Both a quite lightweight and inexperienced. We need that older head up there - Jansen might be able to do it but he doesn't score too many. So, hopefully, Cole will stick around.
  2. Reid made his name at Millwall as a winger and deserves more of a chance. I think his displays for us are down to a lack of confidence - just like Emerton.
  3. Todd is a hot head who has a very short fuse. But a thug? I don't think he is. A thuggish footballer, in my book, is someone who goes into challenges with the malicious intent of injuring others. E.g Lee Bowyer or Alan smith.
  4. Sadly, compared to SOME current England strikers, that record is quite impressive. I'm still of the view that Smith is a thuggish individual who has it coming to him one day when a sturdy centre half takes offence to his perpetual fouling. But you can see why Leeds fans love him. For God's sake, there are enough Rovers fans who idolise Garry Flitcroft for displaying about a tenth of Smith's aggression and determination on the pitch. And at least Smith did play consistently well.
  5. Perhaps, Dunn should have tried harder to get back into the team, rather than leaving - but no way would he play Tugay's role. Dunn likes to run with the ball in the attacking third, not sitting deep as Tugay does. And Nissa did actually come into the press complaining that Souness hasn't actually explained why he's not in the team, and hinted he may look to leave. Although, granted, he hasn't exactly been vociferous or disruptive.
  6. I hope Nissa retains his place, despite Short's return from injury. He needs these last two games to secure his Rovers future.
  7. A bit peeved that Souness still insists on falling out with players - although Todd does have a history. I'm not too bothered, as long as a decent centre half is brought in, in the summer.
  8. Rubbish. Souness didn't make Dunn. No manager MAKES a player. They may help, but in the end it comes down to the player himself. Have you considered that Dunn left because he couldn't get into the side? Souness didn't rate him as a central midfielder, and Dunn wanted to play there and got fed up of playing a bit part role as a winger. Ironically, he's still not playing centre mid, but that's by the by. Add that to the fact that he fell out with Souness - how can a player expect to improve if he doesn't even speak to the manager? And you can see that the Dunn situation is by now ways comparable to Alan Smith's situation. If I was Dunn, I'd have left as well. Rovers fan or not.
  9. Loyalty is all but gone from football - accept it. The main reason is the gulf that has grown between the top clubs competing for honours and the also rans. Whilst before, a lot more teams had a chance with of winning honours now only an elite minority expect to be regular victors. And the best players have to go to those elite clubs or risk not winning anything meaningful in their careers. So Damien Duff leaving us for Chelsea is as reasonable as Jon Stead ditching Huddersfield for Rovers. Duff wanted to play regular Champs League footy and win medals - something we have as much chance of providing as Huddersfield themselves. Jon Stead wanted regular Premiership football and Huddersfield won't see that for a long, long time. You can't have it both ways. If you don't accept top players wanting to move to bigger clubs, you should be up in arms that Stead departed Huddersfield or David Yelldell jumped from that German juggernaut, Stuttgart Kickers.
  10. Not quite sacked but something near to it. Big mistake by Burnley. With Little expected to leave and other 'stars' being linked away, things may yet be on the downwards spiral for them lot. May I recommend Howard Wilkinson to them.
  11. Did feel sorry for Leeds but it's football and these things happen. It would be a dull Premiership if occasionally, you don't have bigger clubs going down. As for Blackburn players who really care for the club; how do you know who does and who doesn't? Because they work hard on the pitch? Or because they're British? Just because Cole is moody and would NEVER cry on a football pitch, doesn't mean he doesn't care about Rovers. It just means he has a different way of coping with emotions than someone like Alan Smith. I think the majority of our current players care about the club, not least of all because their own careers depend on the club's success.
  12. Good Luck to them. Rivaldo is sure to be a crowd-puller, and even if he only sticks around for a season and disappoints - the club's profile will be improved. Here's a question. Amongst foreigners, who do you think is more well-known - Bolton or Blackburn. I'm not sure, because although we've won the league and had a few stunted European campaigns, Bolton have recently been signing a lot of foreign players that must have brought the club a bit of media interest abroad.
  13. If Irish people didn't always resort to supporting Celtic because of religious reasons, (not to mention glory hunting) their support wouldn't be so big.
  14. Disagree. It's not as if the players don't care - but they are all completely devoid of confidence. They are scared of making mistakes. Nothing's going to boost confidences until we win. And in our current rut, we ain't going to win. Solution, replace Souness and hope the new man gives the players a new lease of life.
  15. Souness isn't the only one to blame, but like any boss - he carries the can. So the chop should fall on him. Injuries haven't helped - but our squad is larger than many others around us so it's no excuse.
  16. Mr Souness, Thanks for the promotion, Worthy Cup win and brief European football sojourn but the time has come for you to admit to your failings and GO. This season has been a catalogue of mistakes and is heading towards disaster. You have displayed the transfer market ability of Brian Kidd. The man-management capability of Glenn Hoddle. The tactical nouse of Glenn Roeder. You are living on past achievements as a player and a manager but when it comes to the crunch, you've come short. Accept that like a man andgo. Don't take us down with you because, unlike you, Rovers may never return to the topflight. And if you like your pay-packet too much to abandon it now. I hope John Williams, Robert Coar and that lot, have the balls to say goodbye. There's no room for sentimentality.
  17. Disagree. We were shockingly inept. But Liverpool played very well and would probably have won even if we had performed to our potential - although it would have been a lot closer.
  18. You make a lot of good points 4LB but I think the comparison between us and Forest is valid. We aren't much better than those around us (as Forest are in Division One) but we definitely have a higher quality team than Leicester, Leeds, Wolves and Portsmouth imo. But our supposed 'quality' players - Cole, Emerton, Friedel, Neill are not performing or injured Ferguson and Thommo. In the final days of Paul Hart's regime at Forest, good players like Gareth Williams, Andy Reid and Marlon King were bordering on woeful. But the change of manager has given these guys a new lease of life.
  19. You know what - I can't, off the top of me head, think of many managers who have been sacked and seen their team's form get even worse in the short-term. Even with Kidd, we improved and actually won a few after he replaced Hodgson. Nottingham Forest have brought in Kinnear for Hart and last season Trevor Brooking almost raised West Ham from the dead. Last season, former Champions' League finalists, Leverkusen, were going to go down until their highly-rated boss, Klaus Toppmuller, was sacked in a last desperate bid for survival. But, Souness has come out of this match with fighting talk - so it seems he's not going to walk. Rovers board seem to be behind him (can they afford to pay out his contract?) - so Souness is to stay for now. The Leeds match is make or break for Souey and Rovers.
  20. Well, I thought neither was going to be good enough for the Premier League. And, yes, I know they haven't exactly had a lot of time on the pitch to make it conclusive to all that they're not good enough; but as we stand now, their performances haven't impressed. Amoruso has been dodgy in a lot of the games he's played in. He was good in the matches Wolves at home and Pompey away - but I can't think of any others. And the Genclerbilirgi first leg was a disaster for him and the whole defence. Yelldell was brought in as number two (from the German amateur leagues where Pelzer hailed from) but clangers in preseason friendlies and reserve matches have forced Souness to bring in Enkelman as cover for Friedel. And Yelldell has been demoted to the reserves. Both may come back to succeed with Rovers first team, but I personally doubt it.
  21. Out of this seasons signings, I was dead against the signings of Amoruso, Gray, Yelldell at the time they happened. In hindsight - I was definitely wrong about Gray (but we have to wait and see if he can maintain his form longer than some of our other signings). But I think I'm being proved right about Amoruso and Yelldell.
  22. It's not about how much money you spend - but how well. Souness' signings are so hit and miss. And unfortunately the big signings - Grabbi and Cole - have been miss. ( I know Cole had half a season of decent performances when he arrived but that doesn't justify £8 million price tag). While Curbishley was picking up Chris Perry for a nominal fee - Souness was snapping up 32 year old Amoruso for nearly £2 million pounds. I just don't think Souness has the nouse in the transfer market. He's obviously better than Kidd - and there have been good signings. But, imo, he tries to buy midfielders that are like he was as a player - on the basis of their work-rate and tackling ability over skill and flair. And whilst you don't want a whole team of Berkovic's - one would be nice to create opportunities. Sacking Souness now would be too risky because the new man would have no time to change things around. If we stay up, I want to see Souness swallow his pride and admit he needs a bit of help with the job by bringing in a number two. I don't know who it could be - but there are plenty of good coaches floating around looking for a job. A Rovers connection would be preferable. It's worked with Redknapp and Smith at Pompey so why not?
  23. Anyone heard any more about the supposed rumours that Souness had another bust up with some his players.
