Kanu for free and 10 goals looks pretty good value as well
It is - but I think they'll lose him for nothing at the end of the season. Hopefully we'll get a few more years out of Benni, and Doyle would command a half decent fee if sold too.
-
we have the 3rd highest scorer in the premiership for 2 million, it speaks for itself really. And on top of that he seems to have a great attitude towards the game, a fantastic player.
Drogba 24m - 18 Goals
Ronaldo 12.24m - 16 Goals
McCarthy 2.5m - 12 Goals
Yakubu 7.5m - 12 Goals
Van Persie 2.75m - 11 Goals
Doyle 80k - 10 Goals
Henry 10.5m - 10 Goals
Johnson 8.6m - 10 Goals
Kanu Free - 10 Goals
Lampard 11m - 10 Goals
Martins 10m - 10 Goals
Rooney 20m - 10 Goals
Only 12 players have hit double figures so far - and as you can see you usually have to pay big money for those goals. Only 3 of the 12 cost below 7.5m. Doyle is probably the stand out buy - but he was unproven at this level - whereas we signed a Champions League winner in McCarthy for 2.5m. Good work Sparky!

Cheez, how short is my memory? I watched him score a hattrick at Villa Park that season, too!
Simon
In fairness to youSimon - that is 10 years ago now. Can't think of any other Rovers players that have been in the Premiership top scorers list at this stage of the season since.
-
Didn't Sutton finish joint top scorer with Dublin and someone else one season? 1996/97 if my memory serves me right - when it was him and Gallagher up front. Technically the GAS days rather than SAS.

Thought this would be of interest to a few on here. (It's not me selling it btw)

This, from the BBCgossip column:
West Ham will axe 16 players in the summer. (Daily Express)
Among them will be Anton Ferdinand, Nigel Reo-Coker, Dean Ashton, Carlos Tevez and Lucas Neill - but Matthew Upson will stay. (The Sun)
Would have to be one of the quickest on record.
Does anyone remember David Unsworth joining Villa one summer - then leaving a few weeks later for Everton without playing a game? Seem to remember John Gregory saying that Unsworth was well and truly under the thumb of his wife.

Yeah, because's he's an excellent right back.
Brett is excellent going forward from right-back, and pretty good defensively in general. The only times Brett scares me is when crosses come in from the right and he's defending the far post - such as the own goal at Watford. If he came up against someone as good in the air as Gamst on the wing he'd be in real trouble.

Well I only thought about it the other night - and have never really paid attention to who kicks off before - but it was Arsenal who took the kick-off on Wednesday. Not sure if they do this bet every game of just televised ones - anyone know this?
-
The other night before the Arsenal game I noticed Ladbrokes take bets on who will kick-off a match. It was evens for both teams - so essentially it's just a market for fun - and Ladbrokes over time will not win or lose on. But then I thought - maybe they've got it wrong. When the coin is tossed there is two possible outcomes obviously. Then the winning captain chooses whether or not he wants to choose ends or take kick off (correct me if I'm wrong). So my theory is:
If the away side wins the kick-off there is a 50% chance they'll take the kick off, and a 50% chance they'll swap ends.
If Rovers win the toss - I'd imagine they will always choose to kick towards the Darwen End in the first half - meaning the away side kicks off.
If my theory is correct - then there is roughly a 75% chance the away side will kick off - meaning evens is a great price.
Does anyone think this is the case - or am I way off?

They seem to be pretty impressed on the whole.
-
It could be worse - we could have Steve Staunton in charge.
-
Hmmmmn........"Jake70" appears to be a highly unpleasant individual.
My thoughts exactly

Has anyone tried searching for David Bentley on Youtube? Quite an eye opener
-
I thought Carrick was terrible last night. He just stands there - and puts so many passes astray. He's no way an 18.6m player. Yes United are doing well with him in the side - but we've won impressively with The Axe playing.
-
at turf more the average age of combat is 32, at ewood park its 19......n-n-n-n-n-nineteen
hahaha
lol - Glad you saw what I was doing there
-
one more thing......does anyone know what squad number dunn has been given..
NnnnnnnnnNineteen.
-
Maybe an illegal firework display in the blackburn end, or maybe something less crazy.
-
I'd rather see Todd and Nelsen than Todd and Henchoz.
Nelsen over Henchoz? I think that goes without saying Ricky.
-
It's taken you a month a half to put that together!
-
maybe we should give up on having a captain...they either bugger off to some other club or break their legs!!
Well the Axe gets my vote
-
Im in the same boat LW, the "squad" is usually posted on the offish site sometime in the Afternoon.
I'll probably go anyway, I usually do - no excuse not to with where I live!
I've been once when we had Jansen, Amorouso, Enckleman, Gresko, Jemal Johnson, Paul Gallagher playing - can't remember if there were any other first teamers or not. It's great being able to stand right next to the pitch and watch.
-
Do we know if Dunn is going to get a run out tonight? I only live round the corner from the County Ground so might pop down if he's playing.
-
There is an article on the bbc now about Neill joining the hammers. It asks for opinions on the move - and one West Ham fan responded with "At least his car will be safer down here"
-
8 years this week since Jansen joined from Crystal Palace. Can't believe it was that long ago!

I remember Dunn being interviewed about the game (I think it was Dunn). When Short scored the opener - he was running round shouting "That's the first goal I've scored in 5 years" - soon after, when he set up the Davis own goal, he was running round shouting "That's the second goal I've scored in 5 years"
Classic!
