  1. I remember Dunn being interviewed about the game (I think it was Dunn). When Short scored the opener - he was running round shouting "That's the first goal I've scored in 5 years" - soon after, when he set up the Davis own goal, he was running round shouting "That's the second goal I've scored in 5 years"

    Classic!

  2. we have the 3rd highest scorer in the premiership for 2 million, it speaks for itself really. And on top of that he seems to have a great attitude towards the game, a fantastic player.

    Drogba 24m - 18 Goals

    Ronaldo 12.24m - 16 Goals

    McCarthy 2.5m - 12 Goals

    Yakubu 7.5m - 12 Goals

    Van Persie 2.75m - 11 Goals

    Doyle 80k - 10 Goals

    Henry 10.5m - 10 Goals

    Johnson 8.6m - 10 Goals

    Kanu Free - 10 Goals

    Lampard 11m - 10 Goals

    Martins 10m - 10 Goals

    Rooney 20m - 10 Goals

Only 12 players have hit double figures so far - and as you can see you usually have to pay big money for those goals. Only 3 of the 12 cost below 7.5m. Doyle is probably the stand out buy - but he was unproven at this level - whereas we signed a Champions League winner in McCarthy for 2.5m. Good work Sparky!

  3. This, from the BBCgossip column:

West Ham will axe 16 players in the summer. (Daily Express)

Among them will be Anton Ferdinand, Nigel Reo-Coker, Dean Ashton, Carlos Tevez and Lucas Neill - but Matthew Upson will stay. (The Sun)

Would have to be one of the quickest on record.:lol:

Does anyone remember David Unsworth joining Villa one summer - then leaving a few weeks later for Everton without playing a game? Seem to remember John Gregory saying that Unsworth was well and truly under the thumb of his wife.

  4. Yeah, because's he's an excellent right back.

Brett is excellent going forward from right-back, and pretty good defensively in general. The only times Brett scares me is when crosses come in from the right and he's defending the far post - such as the own goal at Watford. If he came up against someone as good in the air as Gamst on the wing he'd be in real trouble.

  5. The other night before the Arsenal game I noticed Ladbrokes take bets on who will kick-off a match. It was evens for both teams - so essentially it's just a market for fun - and Ladbrokes over time will not win or lose on. But then I thought - maybe they've got it wrong. When the coin is tossed there is two possible outcomes obviously. Then the winning captain chooses whether or not he wants to choose ends or take kick off (correct me if I'm wrong). So my theory is:

If the away side wins the kick-off there is a 50% chance they'll take the kick off, and a 50% chance they'll swap ends.

If Rovers win the toss - I'd imagine they will always choose to kick towards the Darwen End in the first half - meaning the away side kicks off.

If my theory is correct - then there is roughly a 75% chance the away side will kick off - meaning evens is a great price.

Does anyone think this is the case - or am I way off?

  6. Im in the same boat LW, the "squad" is usually posted on the offish site sometime in the Afternoon.

I'll probably go anyway, I usually do - no excuse not to with where I live!

I've been once when we had Jansen, Amorouso, Enckleman, Gresko, Jemal Johnson, Paul Gallagher playing - can't remember if there were any other first teamers or not. It's great being able to stand right next to the pitch and watch.
