  1. Remember losing 4-1 to Wimbledon, that was bad! sad.gif

5-1 it was. 1st leg League Cup. Return game at Ewood not surprisingly saw lowest crowd, and was played out in pouring rain - some things never change!

Bryan's talking about the game at the back-end of the 1993-94 season when a win would have taken us top. We lost 4-1 after taking the lead. I was there and it was a totally depressing night.

We should run a 'most depressing match' thread. It would run and run.

  2. Interesting how the assistant manager merry-go-round has had an immediate impact. NOT. One 'yes' man for another - hardly surprising really.

Although, apparently, Tony Parkes fervent insistence that Yorke was playing really well for the reserves caused Souness to give him a second chance. dry.gif

Yes but, the main benefit of the switch is that Parkes distance from Souey will make it easier to fill his boots in the caretaker role.

  3. Scotty,

In reply to your question. I have never believed that sacking a manager is the answer in football. I am confident that Souey and John Williams will know themselves when the time is right for a mutual parting if indeed it should come to it.

Roy Hodgson was sacked in september and we still went down. He remains adamant that given time he would have pulled things round. Brian Kidd was a coach first and foremost and didnt like the job of manager.

Knowledge is power and so many things happen at a club that we are not privy to. JW will see the playing staff and note their reactions as well but so far to my knowledge there arent any dressing room revolts that have come to light.

I am sure that if he reads these messages he will get an interesting mix but in a professional, multi-million pound business he cannot be influenced by the fans reactions too much.

I still believe that we have a good, experienced manager and a top ten side.

Top ten maybe - but you don't say which division you're talking about.

  4. Lets see what his latest signing has got first.

If not, lets get ourselves someone who will bring in creative and attacking minded exciting footballers, rather than these defensive battling 'men'

No time to wait I'm afraid TP. The club is being hit where it hurts most - in the pocket - Prem and Centenary Suite bookings are down massively on match days. These are the people who influence the board on big decisions.

  5. Thus far this season, there is precious little to be said in Souey's defence.

Touch line antics, continuing referee antipathy and nobody on this MB at least wholeheartedly supporting his selection or tactics.

Two obvious howlers- the Leeds manger blames having to play Matteo in midfield as a major contributory factor in their demise last season so Souness persists in playing him there. Gallagher was on fire scoring goals pre-season but has not yet featured.

    Madness!

    There are many more.

It cannot be argued that there are not any decent contenders if Souey were to go. LDrover assembles a nice list of realistic targets.

Strachan and Dowie would be my favourites- I believe that both would be as close to certainties to produce good results and great football from the talented squad (yes I mean that) Souness has assembled.

Hughes would be very interesting, I believe could do the job but the transition to Prem Management is a big one.

Newell and Shearer would be too big a risk but enormously popular if either were to be appointed.

Who knows what lessons Sturrock has learnt from his 13 gmes at Southampton but we could do worse than interview him. Have to say I am relieved Colin Hendry is not available- I never saw him as managerial material. One name from left field (as our American posters might say) - Glenn Keeley.

Keeley as No 2 to Mark Hughes sounds better.

BTW saw Tony 'Ewood' Parkes at the launderette this morning havin his suit dry cleaned - so watch this space.......

  6. MATTEO AND NISSA MUST NOT START NEXT GAME... IN ANY POSITION.

Both were sluggish, and did they not get in each others way>?

When the hell is out first win coming from?

WE MUST HAVE GALLY AS A SUB TO COME ON MR SOUNESS. I've had just about enough of this falling out with players nonsence, get a grip man.

    We must start like this:

    FRIEDEL

    NEILL SHORT AMORUSO GRAY

    THOMPSON FERGUSON TUGAY DE PEDRO

    STEAD DICKOV

On the bench: Gally, Yorke (trying in 1 game is not good enough tho), Matteo (just), Emerton, - A. N Other....

If we are to get this Pedersen...(and lets hope he's an improvement on Tore and Per!) then perhaps he!

We need a reliable defender. Why did we not set our stall out for one after the disaster than was last season, and the ensuing disaster that is this. He gets Matteo plays him in midfield. The guy is poor, and has added nothing.

Only person he can get a grip on is his wife's ex.

  7. Rev

Clearly you are correct - a disaster PR wise - my post weeks ago, replying to your LET letter, highlights the effect of transfer policy over ticket price on season ticket sales.

But all fans on this thread should consider that:

1.The cost of the last result (usually a poor game if safe) should be taken with a pinch of salt - what about the other 15 poor results at Ewood?

    2. 1500 ST's @ £400 is only £600K - not much for wages (or fees).

3.A player on £40K per week requires the sale of 4,000 seats for 20 home games @ £25 per seat (if my maths are right).

4.Clearly Prem clubs rely more on Sky TV, sponsorships and other commercial monies (and less on attendances).

We are perhaps not worse off than ever before and perhaps the powers that be do not give the fans as much respect as they might.

    Comments?

  8. Well I don't know about where they do it to, but I've certainly never gotten one, of course there's no real point sending them over here though  laugh.gif

Don't worry Rich, the club can't distribute them within a five mile radius of Ewood let alone Ireland. mad.gif

Its done by mail to a database of all those who have purchased a season ticket in any year for as long as they wish to go back. Its nothing to do with location - idiot!

  9. It's quite interesting putting (real) faces to usernames. This picture caught my eye.

What the hell is going on here ?. Is he a real Bishop ?.

If I'm right about this, when ever Rovers/Burnley or Preston Go up or down a coffin goes in or out of the ground and gets blessed - just an excuse to have a few beers I think.

Its nowt to do with Burnley. For every Rovers or Preston relegation the 'dead' club is laid to rest in a pub cellar in Bamber Bridge and 'raised' when promoted. Very old tradition with procession and service!
