  1. Assuming the rumours about Sparky being hired today are true - has anyone read/heard who Sparky might be bringing in as his staff? Will he bring the backroom staff who worked with him for FAW and does anyone know if they are any good? And does someone on the board have (realistic) wishes for who should be appointed?

Very exciting days! Here's hoping the rumours are true rover.gif

    Parkes & Sparks - very catchy! cool.gif

  2. About the experience thing, everyone has to start somewhere. Look at the managers that start in the lower divisions, do really well there, move up to prem level and flop ! I think that managers working in the lower divisions "manage" in a completely different way and play a totally different style than that in the premier league. When they move up they are like a fish out of water.

With Hughes starting at the top level, lets hope this proves to be the formula for a successful manager at the highest level.

    Here here!

  3. I'd be most inclined to believe option 1 Paul. Rovers will have already spoken to Hughes before going through the process of requesting permission from the Welsh FA. It saves time as they would then know if he was interested and what his plans were.

Do you think Newcastle requested permission to talk to Souness? As for taking everything his agent said as accurate, if an agent said it was raining i'd go outside and check.

    Good call MB.

Roach actually said he was not aware of any approach. He did not say 'no'.

You could read several things into his clever use of words.

Don't be naive Paul - he's an agent remember - not to be trusted.

  4. John Bailey was a very big favourite of mine and I never did understand why or how he disappeared as a great full back fter the transfer to Everton.

Sauxy was undoubtedly the best left bck I have seen wearing the Rovers shirt but I guess Eckersley will shade it. So many people told me such great stories about him- again an incredibly loyal servant of the club.

Any great left backs before Eckersley?

Is there any footage of the great man?

  5. Bill (Telescopic Leg) Eckersley for me.

Bill had a long run as England left back despite playing for a 2nd division team (Rovers).

Extremely loyal (He could have had his pick of the 1st division teams but chose to stick with Rovers) and was way before his time with his ability to dribble all the way up to the opposition penalty area. Superb ball control and his party piece was that if a player went past him he could extend his left leg behind him and nick the ball away, clean as a whistle, leaving the other player looking around him wondering where the hell the ball had gone. This earned him the 'telescopic leg' tag.

Very entertaining to watch and a dependable full back.

    Has my vote every time.

Bill should win this by a mile.

  6. Extract from The Sun - Shepherd, pictured below with Souness, said: “It was Graeme’s obvious determination to get the job right from the first minute that convinced us he was what we were looking for — a winner.

hmm... did he actually apply for the newcastle job? was glad he's gone... now i'm feeling betrayed...

Apparently Shepherd and Souness were talking as early as 8 August!

  7. Soueys gone and wasted another 2 million on a dud.  hurry up depedro. All Pedersen cares about is when his latest toni and guy appointment is.

Somebody's bitter because norwegians are dead sexy!!! Isnt that true, Bjarte? biggrin.gif

Yep, Oyvind Leonhardsen and Henning Berg were real stud muffins.

And your Norwegian Beckham Andresen couldn't score at Mr.G's.

For the record, Mr G himself is now mine host at the Rising Sun Brownhill and doing well after a recent heart attack!

  8. No way BobF. Could prove very costly! Imagine the headline "Hoddle tops Rovers fans' poll". JW thinks "Hoddle!?! - I hadn't thought of him!". Hoddle gets appointed and you have to fork out for a sniper's rifle.

biggrin.gifbiggrin.gif Do you honestly believe he would top the pole?

John Williams is a pole dancer?!?!

Blimey, uncle Warburton gets around a bit! Does his missus know he frequents clubs with greying men cavorting round a pole?

Now we know that Rovers are in dire straits financially when the chief exec has to supplement his income with dancing dollars! Could the routine be incorporated into the half time break?
