Always followed the Northern League more being a Darwen lad, but I worked with a couple of Lancs League players a few years back (Ian Howarth of East Lancs and Ian Bell of Haslingden) so was kept up to speed on their games.

Many years ago I played against a 50 odd year old massively overweight Peter Osgood. I would have been in my late 20s at the time and a fairly decent amateur player. I went to the Open at Troon today, my first ever visit to a professional golf tournament after being a TV fan since childhood. I watched some of the early groups go through the Postage Stamp (par 3 8th hole) but I had my sights set on trying to follow, as best I could, the Els/Mickelson/Westwood group round their 18 holes. Talk about beginner's luck!!! Never thought I'd get sunburnt in Scotland but there you go!!!
