  1. I hated walt from episode 1 but at the same tome you cant tale your eyes of hom because he was played so incredibly by bryan cranston, most of the charecters where knobs or just prettu hard to sympathise with but it was still great though, the only charecters that i did like where jessy(obviously) hank(up until the start of season 5B and mike hermantroad, the only character o had know time for was walts son, i just thought his character was so underused and underdeveloped(though o think thay could larhely be down to the actors acting ability and physical disability making it hard to do much with him)

I'd hate to have seen what this post looked like before you edited it TJ lol.

Back on topic, I see one of the programmes that brinscall recommended above, 11.22.63, paid for a huge advertising feature in the Metro this morning. Might give it a whirl.

  2. It was said in commentary that the bowling coach was probably the man that suggested Root open, but when Chris Gayle never opened the batting, that wasn't a given, and bottom line is Morgans the captain and ultimately has the final say, so he deserves some credit.

But hey its not worth rowing over, we lost, I can accept that, if only Rovers had as bright a future as Stokes and England cricket team :tu:

Not a row Gav, just a simple discussion about whether Morgan is fit to be captain of England. Its perfectly okay to disagree :)

  3. I think you're being a bit harsh on Morgan, his bowling options and field placing has been exceptional this tournament, sadly his batting has not.

He took the decision to put Root up with the new ball, masterstroke, got us back in the game only for Stokes to bottle it.

I'd also like to know why Hayles was off the field when the sub fielder put down that catch, that decision alone could have cost us the match.

No he didn't. It was the bowling coach that suggested it, along with Root himself.

If you want to talk about being harsh Gav, that sub fielder slipped at the crucial moment when going for the catch, no real blame attached surely? He's a wicket keeper so should be entrusted to take a catch, surely you can't blame 'whoever made that decision', whatever the reason behind Hales being off the field?

I've been far from convinced by Morgan, and I think the revitalisation of England's limited overs performances is more to do with Bayliss. Root seems to be the natural captain - probably in all formats too, though there's no great urgency to replace Cook in the test matches.

  4. The captain has to shoulder much of the blame. I don't really rate Morgan to be honest, either as a captain or a batter. One decent innings in every 7 0r 8 isn't good enough and he never really seems like a leader to me.

We were 30 or 40 short today and stupidity by the Windies' top order allowed us back into it. I thought Jordan and Rashid bowled well but Stokes had a brain freeze before that last over, not helped by his captain confusing him at the last minute with a field change. But you have to doff your cap to a bloke that smacks four sixes in a row, just when he absolutely had to!

Windies were not very magnanimous in victory though, and to mouth off like they did just after winning the biff, bash bosh version of cricket was pretty poor.

Joe Root is different class, but he threw his wicket away just when we needed him to bat on!

  5. Remember reading something a while ago (and if I remember rightly) that his brother or sister was quite ill and the family decided to move to California for the sunshine , think he was about 5 when they moved.

Maybe oldjamfan can shed some light on the above

Yes I think that was the story. He has quite a few relatives still living in Darwen, mainly second cousins and their offspring. There is obviously a musical gene in the family - my granddad (his great uncle if I've worked it out correctly) was a well known local musician and ballroom dancer in his day.

  6. Believe me I've handled stress a lot better recently for the most part. As you say however "not good for you" and if you recall I was kicked out of Ewood. I did that because I was at an extreme level of stress. Believe me I have social anxiety and honestly don't want publicity which is the reason I stick to forums. I call it social anxiety you can call it being a coward hiding behind a keyboard if you like! if I wanted publicity why on earth did I leave at that point? Surely that would have made no sense? How do you know a ban wouldn't have followed soon after. I was lucky not to be arrested for trespassing! I'm not trying to come across as a martyr (I'm not) its simply my nature to defend myself. If people get upset about Kean and Venkys (and rightly so) nobody would call that trivial. A lot of that is about what they have done to Jack's legacy so really its along the same lines.

Yes Jack never courted publicity (going on the pitch to celebrate or speak to the fans are the most public things he did) but it bothers me that he isn't more famous than he is. Especially when people like Ferguson (and yes I note the media lovefest for United) get constant eulogies written about them probably by journalists he's threatened to ban in the past. Egomaniacs like him being referred to as "sir" while a good, decent man like Jack gets nothing in comparison.

That's another reason why I've complained so much about "local mentality." Its about protecting his legacy AND wanting him to be remembered for ever. I was always a huge fan of Jack even at my lowest point that never wavered. Maybe I should just let the obsession with this go (nobody can say I haven't spoken up for Jack though its not like I made a big PR stunt out of going to his gravesite like BRAG did) but you know why its hard? Because I am loyal regardless of what you think.

If this isn't the last post I make on this thread (on this subject at least) please suspend my posting for a few days. I'm tired of talking about it and we are never going to totally agree are we?

If Jack wasn't bothered about being famous, why on earth should you be bothered on his behalf?

And you say Jack got nothing in comparison to SAF. Well, I'll tell you something that Jack got. Wealth that us ordinary folk could only ever dream about, and as a direct consequence of that, living the dream of funding his beloved football club and allowing them to bloody a few noses and win things, including being champions of England. Thankfully, he was able to share that part of his adventure with the rest of us. While I'll be eternally grateful for that, the man is dead and buried now and if he didn't court publicity while he was alive he'll hardly give a stuff now, will he?

I don't know you, and I'm not really familiar with your history, but as someone who has suffered his own mental health issues in the past, I do genuinely sympathise and empathise with you in lots of ways, but you're like an alcoholic that keeps going back to the bottle. There are some things you'll never, ever be able to change or even influence, but you keep on picking at the scab, and I suspect doing yourself harm in the process. Then there are some areas where you actually do have interesting things to contribute, and perhaps a slightly different perspective to many of us, which is often a good thing. The trick for you Vinjay is to develop a safety valve that allows you to filter out what to get involved in and what to ignore.

    Take it easy pal.

  7. Another little known one, starred in every episode of one of arguably the big US tv shows of the seventies and all spin off movies (6), might not know the name but the face? the guy above "grandma" and now a respected guitarist / musician Jon Walmsley

    My cousin!

Lee Mack supports Rovers, is there any connection to the town though? I know he was born in Southport and lived part of his childhood in Darwen.

Lee Mack went to Everton School so I assume he lived in Blackburn at some point?
