Makes way more sense that it would be £500k permanent transfer fee, presumably it's a loan with an obligation to buy that we are pushing for.
Doesn't look good on us that we are trying to ship him out permanently after 1/2 a season.
Looking like an abysmal purchase.
Not if we make 500k on him

26 years old 19 apps for Liverpool...strange one...been injured alot?
I think fitness wise he's alright. I know some Liverpool fans who think he's been unlucky to not get more game time after his performances a couple of years back but he's a bit of an old school centre back who doesn't do the messing about at the back malarkey (obviously a bit of an issue for us if he's asked to do it)
-
I rate Phillips. That season liverpool had every defender out injured, he was an absolute rock at the back and was a big part of the reason they got top 4 that season. I reckon he could do a job at a mid - lower prem club so of we're getting him that's a decent bitbof business.

Pep and Klopp are a gulf in class ahead of the other managers in the league. Man City have dominated over the last few years but Klopp and Liverpool have pushed them, without them City would have had a much easier ride of it and the season would have been over by March every season.
Ideally pep won't be much further behind klopp and there becomes a touch more competition at the top of the table. Otherwise City will run away with it every year.

That statement seems to have done the job on Facebook. The happy clappers are unbearable "clearly some of our fans don't know how FFP works"

He’s already a millionaire, comfortably.
He's only been round the 1st team less than18 months. To be a millionaire post tax he'd have to earn over 2m and not spend a penny of it which over 18 months is 25k a week which he's most definitely not on.

Have a read of the link I posted a couple of pages ago. There are trillions laundered every year. There is a process called layering, which effectively is where dirty money is brought into the clean economy, under the guise of legitimate business, but the origin is far from legal. There are some clever people out there who find ways of doing these things and us mere mortals, just aren’t aware of it.
The money used to elevate Chelsea to their lofty heights over the last few years, is highly suspicious for starters. It is thought that proving ownership of lots of commercial property in major cities throughout the world is nigh on impossible.
Lots goes on under the radar. Proving it is another matter, hence the ED in India being involved.,
Yeah I get the gist just don't get how it applies in this case. I'm not disagreeing I'd just like some meat on the bones / some theories.
I would have thought they'd put 20m through one of their profitable overseas companies by falsifying many sales and then take the money back as a clean 20m profit. This almost seems like the opposite in that they put 20m in in one chunk and it gets pissed away lots of random items of expenditure which I don't understand how it would get back to venkys
Unless as Wilsden said the money doesn't get to the club and sits in VLL but would that not require the whole club finance function and auditors being either complicit or negligent?
If only we had a data dump from our accounting software, there's enough accountants / business savy people on here who could trawl through it and find something suspicious but unless you're either in the finance dept or on the audit team or a hacker, you'll never see it.

I'd love them to be money laundering but I just don't see how it fits in this case. The £20million they send a season is presumably sat in their bank account already and ready to use and therefore already clean? Also I'm not sure how it gets back to them once it's gone through the club.

Hopefully someone sabotages the deal our end. Mess up the forms again so the transfer gets rejected. Then watch venkys and waggot squirm without their 20million
-
If say we got 25m for Wharton. In theory we could go send 10m to running costs splash 5/6m on a quality striker. Then have 10m to bolster everywhere else. Wed possibly be able to mount a late play off charge. HOWEVER none of that will happen.
I also fear that if we get a big chunk of money and don't spend it, it'll disappear next time venkys are in front of a judge asking to send more money the answer will be "no you've just got 20m use that"
-
It would be madness if we turn down bids for the likes of Rothwell and Diaz and let them go on a free yet accept anything other than big mega money for a kid who wants to stay and would benefit from staying for another season or two
-
This time last year I thought we were sat on £40million + of future transfer fees between Philips and Wharton what with new contracts and blooding youth in to the team.
Are we really looking at not breaking 20m for both?

Aren't Newcastle having to sell Trippier to clear some FFP headroom? Surely that would put Wharton down the pecking order in terms of potential transfer activity.

If there is genuine tangible interest in the club that is massive and could sway the "what would we do without the venkys" crowd
I'd just love to know what they want with the club. Are they too embarrassed to sell?

It's too expensive to buy a PL club these days. Not everyone has a spare 3 - 4 billion to buy man utd. A championship club is perfect for someone who *only* has a couple of hundred million to spend on a play thing. Last year we were a couple of good signings from a solid promotion push, we have a cat 1 academy and a proud history. Like others have said, the players we've let go on a free added to the calibre of academy player we seem to bring through, we're a few good decisions away from having a good revenue stream from player sales. Out of the championship clubs, we've got as much going for us as any other club.
